14.1 cases

Hi guys!

Did anyone else tried fitting the rMBP in a 14.1'' case??

I tried it in the store with this Case logic:
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=463375173&pf_rd_i=301128

It was a perfect fit! now I wonder if it means that other 14,1 cases will fit as well, as I find the case logic one not that appealing...

*needless to say, I would have tried other 14,1 cases, but the store had only that one...

If it does work with others, it means that a whole new sector of possibilities has open for us!

Cheers!
Y

Here's what I want in my bag:

  • ability to carry either an rMBP or my work laptop (HP EliteBook 8440p)
  • ability to carry my T2i with a Sigma 17-50 mm lens if I have my laptop in there
  • carry a decent lunch and snack sack with my laptop and camera
  • carry laptop and camera accessories (e.g., battery, charger, mouse)
  • room for some folders, a Levenger circa portfolio, pens, pencils, etc.
  • bag should still be allowed to be carried on board an aircraft in addition to my carry-on

I really don't want to use this bag as my camera bag since I already have a dedicated camera bag. Rather, I would like to take my camera with me when I go on a business trip so I can take some pictures during my off-time. The key thing is the ability to have a laptop, camera, and a lunch sack

Obviously, when I'm not travelling for business, I won't have the camera in the bag. I looked at the Booq Boa Flow M, but I was wondering are there any other alternatives that can accommodate needs?

I'd look at crumpler to see if they have something to fit your needs. Here are a few.

The Booq Mamba 15".

I don't think it needs many photo's... I've tried to show how snug it is by taking a close up of a partially open zip.

It also has a faux fur inner. The zip itself is plastic, but the zipper is metal, but if you look at the picture, it'll never touch the actual MBPr, although on the corners it gets a bit close, so I just pull the zip away to make to it doesn't make contact.

Really nice, thanks for taking the pics.

Those crumpler bags look like they might fit the bill. However, how would I use the camera compartment if I'm not carrying a camera? It seems if I put anything else in there, it'll just 'bounce' around when I'm walking.

If you looking at photo gear + laptop bags... Look at think tank photo.. IMHO the best

Well, i'm really looking for a backpack that can accommodate my camera only when I'm traveling for business. I already have a dakine sequence which is my main camera bag. However, I just a small 'padded' area for my camera that can also store other things when I'm not carrying my camera with me.

Not all of them have camera compartments but they also look like some of the ones with the camer compartments are configurable. I know the camera/laptop bags seem more geared toward professionals so may be not what you are looking for. You could always remove the camera compartments and use the open space for other stuff. I'd look at the other ones I linked as well.

I bought a Crumpler tote bag though and it is the best bag I've owned. So I really like thir quality.

I don't use their backpacks.. Well I have the glass taxi but that is only for carrying my 400mm.. I do use the urban disquise50. The Velcro compartment separates can be taken out or folded flat when not in use

Just wanted to report my findings....

I decided on a sleeve and screen protector/keyboard cover for my retina, along with a new backpack for class.

I decided on the...

Targus League Backpack
Radtech ScreenSavrz
Radtech Sleevz

The ScreenSavrz, which for the people who don't know is a keyboard cover which shields your retina from small pressure spots when laptop is closed, is fantastic. It also doubles as a cleaner. The soft material is great to wipe down the screen and finger prints.

The Targus League backpack is GREAT. It's an awesome upgrade from my puny Incase side satchel backpack. The laptop sleeve in the backpack is alright. Definitely will need a padded sleeve before putting it into the backpack. Regardless, the backpack has many pockets and plenty of room for a 15" laptop and a few books and binders.

Lastly, the Radtech Sleevz. I thought this sleeve had a little more padding then what I got. It is great if you have a very padded laptop bag or briefcase. The fabric is almost paper thin. It doesn't provide any padding or safety from bumps or normal use. It is merely a shield from small things that may scratch or blemish the exterior of the machine. While a great product, it wasn't for me, so I returned it and will keep looking for a nice padded snug sleeve.

If anybody knows of a nice padded sleeve that will fit the retina snug please quote and comment back. I can't seem to find a good one with good reviews (or even a review at all). I know the current incase ones "fit" the retina but as shown in this thread they are loose and do not fit the retina correctly.

Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your findings! I just ordered a ScreenSavrz in black and an accessory cable (order has to be over $20)...and I got free shipping using code SHPP510!

Thanks so much for helping me finally decide on a sleeve! I just purchased the Mamba 15 in gray, and I got 10% off using code KMG10!

I sure hope it's ok to post discount codes, as I didn't see a rule against it. Sorry if I'm mistaken.

And many thanks to the forum in general—it's helped me tons in the past few weeks since I got my rMBP! :)

peace,

Thinking of getting this for my new Retina MBP. Anyone had any experience with it? Quality/compartments wise?

Messenger bags?

I posted a while ago in this same thread asking in anyone had any ideas on simple messenger bags that fit the rmbp nicely. The topic has mostly been on backpacks and sleeves. Althought the Acme made skinny sleeve and the incase slim sleeve are good, Id like a messenger bag that fits the laptop and a few other things with it. Small but useable to carry the laptop, IPad, 1 or 2 notebooks the charger and maybe an external drive. I'm looking at the incase shoulder bag since I've had a good experience so far with incase.

I hope this post doesn't go overlooked like the last one, I cant be the only one looking for a simple, small, understated everyday messenger bag.

Was at the local Apple store getting my fix and noticed Puma brand sleeves. I compared them to Incase on the same shelf. The Puma sleeve has firmer neoprene that is a bit thicker. So I believe I would will go for one of those in the short term.

It's expensive, but here's a laptop/camera messenger-style bag that'll work:Just take out a divider or two to make room for lunch, and, if you're not using your camera, just take out all the dividers.

Hey guys, I just wanted your opinions on my bag/sleeve combo. Right now I have a black north face borealis backpack and I'm thinking about getting either the booq Mamba sleeve or the colcasac zagora. Which of the two do you guys think is better? I'm planning on putting the MacBook in the sleeve in my backpack with a couple of textbooks for college. Also I've read about people getting the radtech screensavrs. Are they really all that useful in terms of screen protection?

Thanks guys,
Krad

I ended up getting a Brenthaven Prostyle Sleeve II in copper/black:

prostyle-11MA_from13-HERO-w.jpg

I like it because of the elastic handle and iPhone pocket. It fits a standard MBP so the Retina is a little loose in there but, overall, still a nice and tidy fit. I also got a Targus CityGear 17.3" Messenger bag:

It fits the Brenthaven sleeve perfectly and lugs around all of my accessories (including a 6x8" Wacom tablet) with ease. It even has a padded iPad pocket. Needless to say, I'm very happy with this setup. :)

I wonder, has anyone seen or tried out/seen one of these great looking aluminum-framed leather cases?

http://www.concretecases.com/en/shop/products/macbook/mac-hook-case/mac-hook-case.php?size=4&color=1

They're beautiful and I love the idea of having a sturdy metal frame for protection...but I'm not too sure about the padding...(hard to tell from pics). The company says it's designed for the cMBP but will fit the rMBP...

That does look nice, too bad it is leather.

any idea if it will fit rMBP along with Kuzy or a speck hard case?
