I have the RadTech sleeve. It was only $30 and it fits the rMBP extremely snug. It's great except the top is exposed and the sleeve is very, very thin. I bought it til Incase releases specific retina sleeves but the RadTech will certainly do for now.

I saw this bag in person at the Apple retail store and the material was not impressive at all. Also, unless you opt for the larger 32L, there ain't much to store!

I wanted a backpack which would store my rMBP, iPad, chargers and gym clothes... Am able to do that with the North Face 'Surge'. I am no longer a student so keeping books and such wasn't a criteria.

Either way, I couldn't recommend the Thule 25L to anyone on this forum!

I wanted a cheap sleeve that would hold my rMBP and my 3rd gen iPad and originally all I could find was the InCase Terra sleeve which I liked a lot but it was $50 and that was a little much right now.

On amazon I found this sleeve from CaseCrown and at $17.19 it was perfect! It was even better when came in. Anyone looking for a decent cheap sleeve check this ine out. MacBook and iPad fit perfectly, even with a SwitchEasy Canvas folio on the iPad.

CaseCrown Sleeve

It says it's made for the retina model but there's some extra room so it's going to be perfect when I get a Speck SeeThru Satin or something similar.

Yea its kind of wierd its been 2 months and barley any good quality cases or sleeves, anyone know why?

I never found a keyboard cover that fit well enough so typing was comfortable.

Also i wonder if heat will be an issue with these covers.

I need a really big laptop backback. Any ideas?

Ogio renegade. Much better than northface.

Finally settled on this one.

Now I just hope it doesn't arrive way too many days after my rMBP...

Any more backpack recommendations, guys?

I'm loving my North Face Surge II and Tom Bihn Brain Cell sleeve. The backpack is great, plenty of room. Even big enough to fit a bulky Brain Cell sleeve in the laptop compartment. May not be the most attractive combination, but any bag with a Brain Cell is going to offer you the best protection for your rMBP.

Just fitted an iCarbons skin. Didn't think I'd like it but it's actually pretty neat.

That looks so awesome! I want one now.

I've got my Thule case which I love, but I need a backpack that doesn't look like I'm about to climb a mountain. I don't dislike the style but I've had that style of backpack for the last 7 years and it's time for a change.

looked at some Eastpak ones today they look pretty decent and a decent price not like 100 pounds (which i think is a tad excessive for a backpack). they are made by north face too

Thanks for the suggestion.

I ended up buying the Floid (Black Core Duroy)

http://www.eastpak.com/uk-en/backpacks/leisure-sport-backpack/floid-core-duroy-black.html

I was looking for a slim backpack, not too big but with a separate compartment for my rMBP so I think this is exactly what I was looking for. I will let you all know what it is like when it arrives.

I had my heart set on the TUMI Alpha Bravo Knox backpack but couldn't bring myself to pay £295 when they are $295 in the states.

Whats your sense of protection level on it? It doesn't seem like it provides much padding on the sides, while providing excessive edge protection

Edit: I realize you said soft for padding, but for clarification, I was hoping you could shine some light as to how dense/thick the padding is - such that it can cushion an accidental knock on the side (like if the case/sleeve knocks into a door knob or something)

The inside is from really soft suede material and the outside is made out of thick leather, I heard it's from buffalo's so the protection on the sides is good. I would guess the thickness of the padding is about 0.5 cm. When it bumped into a street lantern the other day my rMBP and the case were fine, no scratches what so ever. A downside for the real geek would be that you attract a certain level of attention. Already got a lot of compliments on it, even from strangers. I keep telling them it's custom made :D. I also wear an expensive watch and I never got complimented on that one, go figure.

Cool ~ thanks for getting back to me. Did you make the purchase from the US? I'm especially irked about their system. They don't remove VAT from the final cost if outside the EU. When I inquired about it, they said it paid for shipping - which means "free shipping" is a lie for anyone outside of the EU. The price of the bag is also relative to where it is being shipped to, so if price of shipping is less than VAT (which is 19%), we're actually paying MORE for the same bag as those from the EU (not to mention that they also receive free shipping, and VAT is required for them) - and likewise, if shipping is more expensive than VAT, that person pays LESS. Unfortunately, in the US, the math works against us. As much as I wanted to buy the bag/case, I do not support their system where some buyers essentially pay for other buyer's shipping.

What harder cases are there for the rMBP? I know that they haven't been made to fit the rMBP precisely, but both Axio and Moshi make something along the lines that I want, in terms of protection offered:

http://www.moshimonde.com/product/codex-15-black.aspx

Is there anything else like that out there that may fit the rMBP very well?

The Brain Cell is made to fit the rMBP, and fits mine like a glove. If you want a hard sleeve, I definitely recommend at least checking out the Brain Cells. I couldn't be happier with mine!
