Why would anyone want to put a case on their MBP that stays on while they use it???? The worst enemy of performance is heat. anything on your expensive MBP keeps heat in. The unibody of the mac is made from an awesome scratch resistance metal. I don't get it. Are you dropping your MBP while you are using it? I don't get it.
Nice to think of the body as scratch-resistant, but it is far from it. Alumin(i)um is a soft metal. I have a unibody MBP at work, and although it's in very good condition, I have still managed to get some scratch marks on it.

I use my MacBook for gigging and doing karaoke with a lot of drunk people around. Although I'd like a normal soft case/sleeve for every day use, if I'm going to take a new rMBP to a gig, I'd like it to be well protected even when open, and by using a plastic shell there are less on-lookers wanting to take a look at my new baby. I just hope Speck release their new case before my next gig.

how easy is it to get in and out of the sleeve?

Not incredibly easy, especially with my injured hand. It's very snug. I usually hold it by the bottom lip and place my hand inside the sleeve on the underside of the laptop and just kind of work it out. It may loosen in time, but I prefer the tight fit to a loose one.

FYI, it doesn't really loosen over time. I've even tried stretching it out by putting in larger objects and leaving it in for over a week.

of the laptop

These three words saved the post. :D

I should have mine any day and was also curious as to the fit of the sleeve. Thanks for replying!

ok I trawled through 42 pages of posts last night determined not to post a 'I couldn't be bothered to read this, but...'

I am trying to find a case, not a sleeve (or maybe both!) for my 15" rMBP!

There are three nice sleives - the PicassoLabs, hard graft, pack-smooch. I'll probably lean towards the Hard Graft bag if they deliver to Australia.

My MBA has small scratches on the base from regular usage. I'm keen to prevent that with my MBP. I've used speck cases before but they don't last. I can't see many cases for the rMBP though.... What would you suggest? Protective film??

I just realized that with my rMBP arriving in 2/3 days, I didn't have anything to protect it. I was planning on getting a Speck Satin Case and I've waited as long as I could but I couldn't leave my computer unprotected while I wait for Speck to release their case so I went ahead and ordered the black Booq Mamba Sleeve.

I read some good reviews on it on this thread and it was only $40 so I figured I would use that and once speck releases a hard case, hopefully it'll fit in the Mamba sleeve and if not, I'll just resell it on ebay or something or give it to a friend.

I've been waiting for the Speck cases for the rMBP. I've never owned a Speck case before, but they have decent reviews on Amazon for their other cases. The rMBP cases on Amazon right now have somewhat mixed reviews. My friend got an mCover for her MBA and said the backs of the top and bottom collided with each other, preventing the screen from opening all the way.

I tweeted Speck today about status of cases for the rMBP, and they said they are expected any day now and will be for sale next month.

Booq Sleeves

It seems like people are leaning more towards the Booq Mamba Sleeve but not many are going with the Booq Vyper M3 Sleeve. Wondered if there was some specific reason as it appears the Vyper has far more protection and is almost exactly the same dimensions. For those that did go with the Mamba do you believe it adds real protection? I've read that the Vyper could take a fall from 3-4 feet and the Mamba to me doesn't appear to offer anything that significant.

I was on the fence between the two but I mainly just want to protect my rMBP in transit from scratches and to carry safely in my backpack which I think the Booq Mamba sleeve would do just fine. Also, I didn't know if the Vyper M3 Sleeve would fit the 15" rMBP well since it was made for the 15" MBP but the Booq mamba is specifically for the 15" rMBP

I got the Mamba from Booq...

I got the Mamba from Booq, and I love it.

It's stylish, fits nice and snug, is made of quality materials, and it increases the overall portability of my new rMBP.

I recommend the Thule Gauntlet 15" and/or the Incase Deluxe Sleeve 15" for the Retina. They both fit exceptionally well.
Is the Thule Sleeve the same as the Thule Gauntlet? If I search for Gauntlet the prices are about £50, but if I look for the sleeve they're £40:

Also, does anyone know what sleeves and hard cases out there have been designed specifically for the rMBP yet? I'm worried about getting any of these and them being a bit loose... Thanks!

I use Incase Coated Canves Shoulder Bag and I love it. It's just awesome, really recommend it!
Not my pictures but it looks like this.

I got my gray mamba sleeve a few weeks ago...and while I love it, I've been eyeballing the black mamba sleeve and now the daypack. Has anyone seen them side by side? I'm worried the gray will show dirt much easier than the black. Ugh, RMA's are a pain. I also noticed a small difference in our sleeves; mine has a gray/white "booq" tag and yours has the black/red tag. Just an observation.

For those wondering how it fits the rMBP: LIKE A GLOVE...but I would still recommend using caution when zipping around the corners; it's the most likely spot for your zipper to scratch your new baby.

peace

I'm back on the market for another sleeve. My pink wool sleeve that came from Berlin is too loose. I bought it on Etsy and was hoping they'd take their time with it. :(

My laptop slipped out of the sleeve as I was taking it out of my bag! (I was quick and caught it before it hit the table!)

This may be a dumb questions but for the few people who are planning on using a case like Speck and a sleeve at the same time, do you think buying a sleeve for the 15" MBP, not rMBP, would be better since the rMBP + Hard case will probably be too thick for a rMBP sleeve and similar thickness to the 15" cMBP?

Ordered the Hard Graft Folio Heritage. I may get one of their bags after checking the quality of the Folio.... I also wanted to order Wrapsol to cover the base at least but they want $50 for delivery to Australia!

I have no issue spending $400 on a bag but $50 to deliver a small box of film -
That's obscene! Out of principle they loose the sale...

now to find an Australian reseller....
