For those looking for a bag, check out the North Face Surge (the original). Awesome bag. I had an OGIO, and the quality doesnt come close to the northface bag. The place where the shoulder strap meets the bag on the top started tearing, after one week.

My ogio broke with in a week of normal usage. The northface could be taken into a warzone and I bet it would be fine. Love my northface surge.

Junebug, I agree 100% with you, this thread has saved me so much time, avoiding all those returns. Only thing Ive stuck with has been the Kuzy case and the bag. Still want to get a sleeve, and may take the dive on the Booq here soon. Also have had my eye on the Icarbon skins too. So many things to waste our money on. lol

Contradictory post of the day: thread isn't useful, thread got me this. Nice.

I love this thread: now get on with it, InCase!

Not Snug.

Based upon all of the feedback...this thread is not really great for finding a rMBP case or sleeve. Too loose, ugly, crappy padding.

I did find a great backpack from this thread...ogio renegade, and so far its the best I've seen of those shown here. Of course, I got it with the 40% coupon as I don't think its worth the MSRP.

Has anyone purchased SFBags - Waterfield Design's Smart Case for the rMBP?

macbookair-smartcase-front-md.jpg

I plan to purchase a rMBP this weekend, and want to buy a sleeve for it right away. I want something slim without a zipper, but with some leather on it. The smart case seems to be exactly what I am looking for.

I was also considering the X Pocket MacBook Sleeve from Hard Graft, but I am leaning more toward the Smart Case.

Let me know if you know of any other sleeves like these two. I browsed nearly every page of this thread, and these two stuck out to me the most.

Cheers!

I noticed this.

Perhaps there's a rumor in China that they are radioactive, or there's something in the name or number that's really unlucky :D

Or, maybe they think that people who spend $3k don't have a nickel left over
The only hard shell case I've seen so far is the Kuzy case available at Amazon.com. I've been really happy with mine but others have reported cracking issues. However, even considering possible cracking, at only $25 it's better than nothing and could hold you over until the Speck/Hard Candy/Incase hard shell covers arrive.

I got my Samsonite Vizair today.

Looks pretty nice:

The important thing for me is the laptop compartment:

C5pLX.jpg

It's really well padded from both sides, and on the bottom there is rubber that is supposed to suppress damage:

zNSiu.jpg

It's a bit big for Retina MacBook Pro:

stDbo.jpg

And this is what I'm worried about. There is not enough padding in the upper part:

i8Vfb.jpg

But it's still a very good backpack. For now I'll probably use a sleeve as well, just for the case.

Also, it makes your stuff feel very light. There is a lot of padding between laptop and your back, I think that's what does it. But I was really surprised how light it felt.

(Sorry about huge images!)

I got the darker Booq Mamba sleeve for my rMBP yesterday and it is the perfect fit. It is very, very snug at first, making it difficult to fit the computer in. But after just a few times, it seemed to expand just enough to snugly fit the computer. I couldn't imagine a better fitting case. The texture of the outside is also slightly rough so you won't loose your grip on it easily. I would highly recommend this case to anyone with a rMBP.

I still want a memory foam sleeve, like a Zeroshock, that fits properly.

Yes, I have a few of these. Very good cases, and not expensive. I've already Googled for a match, but no luck.

They most likely have one that's pretty close, i've just got the check the dimensions. I believe their cases are generic and not designed for a specific model, so who knows.

I asked earlier if this Zeroshock case be a good enough fit for an rMBP?
http://www.amazon.com/ELECOM-ZEROSHOCK-Innerbag-MacBookPro-15-4inch/dp/B002FB6ELG
It's internal dimensions are apparently 37 × 2.5 × 25cm
And rMBP is 35.89 x 1.8 x 24.71cm

Now someone said that it was always too big already for the cMBP (and a review here on macrumors of that sleeve used for the cMBP does indeed confirm that) but I thought what it they actually started making them in the stated dimensions in the between time? And a little extra space isn't necessarily that bad, as it would leave space for say, a hard shell case. The Zeroshocks I've had so far are snug enough when zipped closed that nothing could move around much even if there was room for it.

has anyone seen the cases for rMBPs? It is almost 2 months old, still there is no good case for it.

The Booq Mamba case is the best by far. It is a perfect fit, as stated by many in this thread.

That one might be out of stock, but there are others in different colors. Just look at the related items.

What case is that on your Macbook Pro with Retina?

These hard cases are poor quality. Google hard candy case.

Those do look a lot better! Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, they don't make them in a clear/transparant option- only colours. Darn!

Do you think the rMBP would fit 'after a few times' in the Booq Mamba sleeve if it were to also have a protective shell/hard case on it? :O

I have the Booq Mamba sleeve for my rMBP and it's a pretty snug fit. I also plan on purchasing a speck or Hard Candy case for my mac but I can't tell if it will fit since we don't know how much thicker they will get with the case on

For people who have experience with HARD CASES like Speck, Hard Candy, Incase, etc,
How much trouble have ya'll had with dirt getting in between the case and the macbook. How often do you have to take it apart to clean it if needed?
Has it caused your computer to get scratched up by hard debri caught in there?

Thanks.

The Kuzy case sucks. I've got one and I'm probably going to return it. The edges are really rough and make it very uncomfortable to type on. The feet are a foam type material and are magnets for dirt/dust/hair/etc. I took it off after about an hour and put it back in the box. Wait for the Speck case, it'll be out in a few weeks.

I agree, the Kuzy case is a little rough, but for $25 it's a lot better than nothing. I plan to use mine until something better (like the Speck or Incase versions) comes along. Considering that the name-brand versions are twice what the Kuzy case costs, I think the Kuzy case is a decent value. And it fits just fine IMHO. If you're looking for hard shell protection right now, the Kuzy case fits the bill. Like I said, it ain't perfect, but it's MUCH better than nothing.
