Best hardshell case?

I've never purchased or had experience with a HARD SHELL / CASE for a laptop before. I'm planning to buy one for my Retina Macbook Pro. But I have read that a lot of people are WAITING for Speck to come out with one?

So who has had experience with different hard shell cases? WHICH BRAND IS THE BEST?

Speck? Kuzy? Moshi? Incase? mCover?

Preferably, I would like a CLEAR/CRYSTAL case that has the rubberized/soft touch feel.

Something like this:

THOUGHTS?

Am I missing something...

I'm confused why no one makes soft silicone covers for Macbooks (including Retina), like they have for the iPhone!? Those nice, matte finish rubbery covers that protect and are always soft and smooth to the touch. Does anyone know a company making these? If not, can someone please start making them... the world would be a better place. Please contact if you know anyone making something like this! Thank you.

There are rubberized finished covers by Kuzy. I've seen them online, but have no personal experience with them. Check it out:

Incase Coupon ESXDSN7P

I just bought the Incase Terra sleeve and was given a 20% coupon to share! If anyone wants to use it, here it is ESXDSN7P. It's only valid for 2 days.

how's the protection level on it? and is it a snug fit?

Yeah, its a pretty nice fit and the felt is thicker than say then the usual neoprene sleeves out there. I wouldn't mind having a bit more padding and was thinking about just adding a few pieces of felt to create another layer of padding inside to sandwich the Pro - it likely doesn't need it, but I'll feel better.

Thanks for that. I'll look at it. I am a fan of I case. I have a sleeve which has been around the world and has been washed outside like new. I also have a backpack I love from them which was all weather every day in manhattan and also still looks great.

My point is. They make a quality product, unless anything has changed in the last few years.

End off topic, thanks for sharing.

I just ordered a Filson (256) Original Briefcase. From what I've read, the quality is pretty much unmatched and it can withstand the elements. I ordered mine with a handle grip (the thing that wraps around the two handles and buttons them together).

I'm also looking at the Rucksack from them aswell.

The City Slicker from SFBags (with a handle and strap) is calling to me as well.

I think I might have a problem :/

I've been through about a dozen or so backpacks and I've found that the Ogio's are unmatched when it comes to protection and versatility. I like a bag that one day I can carry only the bare essentials like my macbook, ipad, and various adapters, hard drives, etc. but then the next day carry all of my gym stuff (shoes, shorts, shirt, towel, etc.) and not have the bag look ridiculous when it's half empty. I've got the Ogio Bandit II right now and it's fantastic. Affordable at around 90 bucks (via Amazon) and I think they look pretty good too.

i have the filson original briefcase in the green color. while i love it, i don't feel comfortable putting my rmbp in there sleeveless. funny thing is that i'm most likely getting the cityslicker the exact way u mention it to either carry separately or put inside my filson. i've been deliberating on what sleeve to get for a really long time and it's come down to (in order of likelihood):
  1. sfbags cityslicker w/handle (still deciding on color)
  2. hardgraft grab laptop folio (black)
  3. mujjo originals sleeve
  4. picaso lab sleeve (matte black)
i also just recently bought a vertical tom bihn cache for any backpacks i have laying around or plan to purchase.

Oh, thanks for the tip! I have an Outback Sleeve from SFBags so I'll just put it in that when I get my Filson. Can I ask what color the "Otter Green" really is? I've seen tons of pictures online and in some of them it looks more grayish and in others it looks very green. As for the CitySlicker, I'm definitely going for the Chocolate color if I wind up getting it.

the color on the website is pretty accurate. i've got mine right next to me and it's definitely not gray. i love the color and it's nice cause you can't really tell if it gets dirty, unlike most of the tan color ones i saw while i was living in nyc.

I like the extra protection from the zipper.. any other case that does this?

Dunno, I bought this one pretty much a day after posting that, and its exactly what I wanted. No worries about chucking it into my cheapo rucksack without thinking about scratches, dents or water damage from rain.

Got my Timbuk2 escape sleeve. Surprisingly my rMBP fits perfect in length and height wise. There is enough space left in height wise so that it won't get any scratches during closing or opening. there is bit space in width as it's originally designed for regular MBP. it's not that bad. I think i am going to keep it. there is an extra pouch to keep iPad. but i am going to use it for my accessories (cleaning cloth etc..)

Incase Terra Sleeve :D

I just bought the Incase Terra sleeve and was given a 20% coupon to share! If anyone wants to use it, here it is ESXDSN7P. It's only valid for 2 days.

Awesome! That's the one I'm interested in. Can you please post photos with the rMBP in it? ALSO how is the fit? Too snug to fit the rMBP once the hard shell cases/covers come out? :D Lastly: where does the coupon work and how!?

----------

Thoughts on the Cool Bananas RainSuit rMBP neoprene case?

It's a cheap and cheerfully 28 euros w/ postage here in Germany.

It seems to have an extra internal hood to protect against the zip, and they say its water resistant and exact fitting.

Here's an English link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/COOL-BANANA...ight/dp/B008GT5WAU/ref=pd_sim_sbs_computers_3

Did you end up buying this case? I like it and am interested. If you did buy it, how does it fit? :) Anywhere (online/in store) that I can buy this in CANADA?
