Colcasac And Second Skin!

I purchased Both sleeve's.
I ended up keeping the Colcasac. It seems to made very well.
I did notice the inside where the outer material meets up to be kinda rough.
So i applied felt. Im trying to avoid scratches on the body from pulling it out and putting it in the sleeve.
Little side note.
TSA allowed me to keep my rmbp in the Colcasac.

I use an Incase neoprene sleeve on my original MacBook Pro and my iPad 3. I wrote Incase about 3 weeks ago to see when they were going to release a version that fits the rMBP and their response was "not any time soon".

Does anyone else know of a good alternative? I prefer it to be as thin as possible while providing decent protection when sliding it in and out of a backpack, etc. I feel confident in not dropping my rMBP...I just want to protect it in a bag while transiting back and forth from wherever I'm going.

Thanks!
Bryan

So I got my booq mamba for the rMBP and I am so happy to finally have a sleeve that fits my laptop. I can finally take it out of the house without feeling nervous lol. The only downside of the sleeve, is I am very worried about how tight it really is. Every time I take my rMBP I need to wipe the corners because the zipper is pressing too hard on the shell of the laptop and leaving marks. Idk if this thing will loosen up over time, but I am almost thinking about getting little clear vinyl strips and putting them on the corners of the laptop. Is anyone else who has this sleeve worried?

i have the filson original briefcase in the green color. while i love it, i don't feel comfortable putting my rmbp in there sleeveless. funny thing is that i'm most likely getting the cityslicker the exact way u mention it to either carry separately or put inside my filson. i've been deliberating on what sleeve to get for a really long time and it's come down to (in order of likelihood):
  1. sfbags cityslicker w/handle (still deciding on color)
  2. hardgraft grab laptop folio (black)
  3. mujjo originals sleeve
  4. picaso lab sleeve (matte black)
i also just recently bought a vertical tom bihn cache for any backpacks i have laying around or plan to purchase.

I've got a Picaso Labs case and I love it. He recently upgraded his equipment and apparently the results are great. It's a nice, tight fit and it's quite protected. It also looks fantastic and I quite often get comments about it.

If you've got any questions, feel free to ask.

Acme Made Union Square Brief review

So, I got an Acme Made Union Square Brief from Datavis recently. I'd not recommend buying from them though. I only ordered from them in spite of their mixed reviews because they were one of the few places that do sell his bag and they sold it for less than others. I ended up paying $43.69 all told, shipping included. They also only had one in stock at the time, and I am not sure if they got any more since.

But back to the bag:
The outside is nicer than the inside. The interior lacks much in the way of organization, then again it also not a very large bag, so you won't be packing a three-day kit inside it.

The bag is made partly of a water-repellent material, essentially a covered ballistic nylon. It looks quite chic and elegantly understated..

There is a little pocket, about the size of a passport or a wallet on one side near the handles.

The shoulder strap is very nice, with a fairly comfortable, non-slipping pad on it for your shoulder.

The interior could be better. While the laptop pocket is perfectly sized for the rMBP, and is fairly well padded, the rest of the space is filed with very cheap synthetic material, quite unlike the outside.

After I added not an overly thick book, a few pens, a mouse, and a case for my glasses, the interior is pretty full.

For the price, the bag isn't bad though. If I only put my rMBP and its AC adapter, mouse, headphones, a few pens, and maybe a folder (fits into the iPad sleeve in front of the laptop compartment, then it's fine. If you want to carry more stuff, definitely look elsewhere. I am only going to use this bag once in a while, when flying somewhere, or on a rare trip to the library with my computer.

The separate zipped (and removable) compartment in the bottom, which is intended for AC adapter, is a good idea, but the material is yet again underwhelming. Don't be fooled though, the design is solid, and the rMBP is very well protected, snugly held in with a little elastic to boot. Just don't expect to put much else in the bag.

Hey guys... long-time lurker, first-time poster. Bought the rMBP (my first mac) last month, and these forums have been invaluable resource so thanks for that!

I've been looking at the Booq Mamba Daypack for a few days now, and I can't seem to find any solid reviews anywhere. Has anyone bought one?

I'm particularly concerned about the fact that it's not specifically fitted for the Retina MBP, and it seems like the laptop compartment is nylon as opposed to the softer material used in the Booq sleeves. Isn't that more likely to scratch it? Do most people who have backbacks also use a sleeve for added protection?

Why can't apple make a case/sleeve/cover hell I don't care just make something apple ill use it. The bumper is great with a front and back protective skins, and the new iPad smart case solves the only problem the smart cover had. Ok sure it sits a lil different and standing up its not as sturdy but I'm confident it won't fall plus I hardly watch stuff on it now that I got this new retina pro. I just feel like Apple would put out a legit contender in to the market plus Ill take a free engraving and the Apple logo still out in view any day!!!

yeh that'd be cool... something officially apple especially as its damn hard to find retina sleeves as most suppliers jsut provide the sleeve for normal 15 inch non retina macbook pros. ive got the neoprene sleeve from incase and its quite good, and only slightly baggy

I have the same sleeve and love it. It's definitely very tight on the computer and it does worry me that the zippers will scratch it. I usually try and push the computer as far back as possible in the sleeve and then zip it up slowly, making sure it won't scratch.

When it's in the sleeve I am not concerned about it scratching because there is lining on the inside that protects the zipper from the actual computer.

Booq Vyper M3 fits rMBP

I am very fond of the Booq Vyper M3 hard sleeves, they offer perfect protection and very good handling.

Having moved to the rMBP from a 17 pre-unibody, I need a new sleeve, and will go for the (old, unibody-oriented) 15 vyper m3 if no new version will appear in the next days:

Although the old 17 vyper case is obviously too big for the 15, it still shows that the sleeve thickness is very well suited also for the thinner rMBP. It does not bumb around it the case as one might think, it just has a bit more air on the top and bottom, but that's totally ok. it feels no less protective.

Booq will surely bring out retina-optimized version some day (stock availability in german shops is very low, sign for an update), but I think it is definitely no mistake to buy the old 15 inch vyper if you need a good hard sleeve and cannot wait.

I've said it before but that corrected grain 'leather' looks really cheap.

You reckon? I like the look from the pics. Seem to be the best looking and fitting sleeve I could find after doing days of research. Sure it will look even nicer in person :)

Are there any full grain sleeves available? Would Full grain scratch easier?
