Acme Made Union Square Brief review
So, I got an Acme Made Union Square Brief from Datavis recently. I'd not recommend buying from them though. I only ordered from them in spite of their mixed reviews because they were one of the few places that do sell his bag and they sold it for less than others. I ended up paying $43.69 all told, shipping included. They also only had one in stock at the time, and I am not sure if they got any more since.
But back to the bag:
The outside is nicer than the inside. The interior lacks much in the way of organization, then again it also not a very large bag, so you won't be packing a three-day kit inside it.
The bag is made partly of a water-repellent material, essentially a covered ballistic nylon. It looks quite chic and elegantly understated..
There is a little pocket, about the size of a passport or a wallet on one side near the handles.
The shoulder strap is very nice, with a fairly comfortable, non-slipping pad on it for your shoulder.
The interior could be better. While the laptop pocket is perfectly sized for the rMBP, and is fairly well padded, the rest of the space is filed with very cheap synthetic material, quite unlike the outside.
After I added not an overly thick book, a few pens, a mouse, and a case for my glasses, the interior is pretty full.
For the price, the bag isn't bad though. If I only put my rMBP and its AC adapter, mouse, headphones, a few pens, and maybe a folder (fits into the iPad sleeve in front of the laptop compartment, then it's fine. If you want to carry more stuff, definitely look elsewhere. I am only going to use this bag once in a while, when flying somewhere, or on a rare trip to the library with my computer.
The separate zipped (and removable) compartment in the bottom, which is intended for AC adapter, is a good idea, but the material is yet again underwhelming. Don't be fooled though, the design is solid, and the rMBP is very well protected, snugly held in with a little elastic to boot. Just don't expect to put much else in the bag.
