This is, for me, the perfect protection for my retina Macbook Pro. I'm using a shoulder bag for carrying my computer around. Because of the opening being where it is on the Viper sleeve and the fact that there is no zipper. This Sleeve is perfect for me. I don't have to take out the sleeve whenever i need my computer. This way i can pick up my computer with one hand which makes it easier and faster.

The bulk around the side and on the surface on the sleeve makes great protection. And again the lack of a zipper takes away the risk of scratches.

I picked the color gray because i think it will stay nave the longest.

The build quality is fantastic and i can definitely recommend this sleeve to anyone.

Hope this help some of you.

Last Photo: sleeve held upside down with laptop inside. No Problem!

Is that a 15" or 13" retina?

I'm got the 13 inch MacBook Pro Retina looking for cases. I've heard that hard cases can scratch the laptop itself by dust and dirt getting caught in between it. Is this true? Does anyone recommend hard cases?

In terms of soft cases, again, looking for something which offers protection mostly. Soft inside, any help and above would be brilliant.

Oh and I'm in the UK !

I have had bad experiences with hard cases, especially the Speck ones. I'm looking for a sleeve that fits snugly for the 13 inch rMBP, mainly offering protection, aesthetics is not of high importance to be honest!

I found these bags through Lamarr Wilson, they're called "My 2nd Brain" and by Think Tank (a company that seems to make fairly decent photography equipment).

I'm getting a 2012 15" rMBP in a few days, and I plan on trying these out, they look amazing. They have so many little pockets and zippers and places to keep things nice and neat. They look wonderful, but I'll let you all know if they're worth the $100 (for the 15" version).

First post here, been reading the forum for a while, lots of great info!

Just purchased a rmbp and picked up a incase neoprene sleeve for it, fits ok but a bit baggy for my liking as it also fits my old 2006 macbook fine. Looking for a retina specific case. So far i've narrowed it down (with help from this thread) to:

Incase Terra
Colcasac black
Booq Mamba

Which would people say suits the rmbp best?

Which case did you for in the end ?

:( Regretting getting this speck case now. It's loose-fitting at the bottom, dust is getting in, and you're suppose to take it off monthly to clean the dust so it doesn't scratch the Mac (hopefully). I was just keen to protect the Mac when I bought it... :(

So I went to a Mac store yesterday with hard Moshi cases, which are far better quality than Speck. They offered to swap the cases for me when I voiced my concerns. However, since the plastic is harder, is it more likely to damage the Mac?

I'm beginning to think a hard case is more trouble than it's worth. To those without hard cases, is it easy to keep your Mac relatively scratch-free by using a good padded bag or sleeve? I'd be interested to know the proportion of people that use a hard case to those who don't. Going away for a month on Sunday, so I'd love to know what to do ASAP... *sigh*.

Just in case anyone is thinking of getting a Speck Smartshell for their 15" retina MBP.... let me save you some hassle.

Here is what the top piece of plastic did to my machine...look closely at the edges.

Yep, now look closer.

That's right... this damn thing is BENDING the corners of my screen BACKWARDS!

And you want to know the real bonus kicker? Now I can't get it off! I have tried sliding credit cards in there, going at it from different angles, prying the latches...NOTHING. I am seriously concerned that additional pressure is going to damage my machine. So now I get the additional hassle of a service appointment at the Apple store to get this thing off, get my money back, AND get them to deal with any damage that may occur to my machine in their process of removing it.

Seriously... burn in hell, Speck. See if I ever touch your ****** products again.

I've been looking at sleeves for my 15" rMBP. I want something that provides pretty good protection but isn't too bulky (I travel some for my job, but the majority of my work is done out of the house, so it doesn't have to be a tank as I don't throw it around) and I prefer the flap (prefer no zippers). After reading through the vast majority of this thread and others I could find, I have narrowed it down to the following (in no particular order):

Booq Viper
Rickshaw Sleeve
Waterfield/SF Bags SleeveCase
Snugg
SwitchEasy

Can anyone that has experience with any/all of these comment on them (particularly their thoughts after an extended period of use - i.e. at least a month or more)?

As I said, I've read the vast majority of this thread, but if there are any others that I should consider, please don't hesitate to let me know that as well.

Thanks in advance.

Was it exposed to direct sunlight or some other heat source?

This whole subject just seems a bit of a nightmare. I remember back in the dim and distant past buying a Brenthaven backpack (which I've still got) for my 15" PowerBook Ti and choosing that was really easy. Now it seems that finding something suitable for the 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display is a bit of minefield with lots of models claiming compatibility but actually being a bit too large. I've read through lots of the posts and eventually decided to get a protective sleeve that will then go into the old Brenthaven. I've ordered a Vatuka 3D Cube. It looks like it will offer good protection, will fit the rMBP and laptop can be used while still in it, which should be a bonus when I'm "in the field" (which could well be literally true). I doubt it's ideal but it will tide me through (hopefully) until I can find something else. Ideally I'd be looking for a backpack or shoulder bag to hold that and my camera kit but those tend to be expensive and require some careful consideration.

After reading some more reviews (that I could find) I nixed the Rickshaw and the SwitchEasy.

I went ahead and ordered the Booq and the Waterfield, figuring that I can return the one I like less. If I don't like either of them, I may order the Snugg, though it dropped to third place based on some of the reviews when compared to reviews of the Booq and WF.

Update: About 30 minutes after I placed my WF order, I got a separate email letting me know that they were shipping the sleeve out today (1/7) and they had upgraded my shipping to Priority at no additional cost. So far, I must say that I am impressed with their customer service. Hopefully I will like the sleeve as much.

I have the SF Bags/Waterfield SleeveCase for a 15" MBP (late 2013). The case fits very well - snug but not too tight. I added the flap which can keep the computer in the sleeve even when held upside down. The sleeve looks very nice. The construction and finish are excellent.

I want to confirm the comment about the excellent customer service. My order was upgraded to priority delivery as well.

Highly recommended.

hello guys :)

I need your advices.

I got a new 15 " new retina macbook pro.

Do i need a hard case?
I use my devies very delegant and carefully. But i wouldnt want to see any scratches on my brand new apple also.

Second question is;

Can you guys offer me a good sleeve with low shipping cost?
I'm living in turkey so i dont want to pay 25 bucks just for shipment.

My criterias are; i want a simple, but elegant sleeve case not with bunnys on it or something like that.

THANK YOU in advance

mintcases are awesome

Anyone tried MintCases before? These are handmade leather cases. I bought one for my MacBook Air a while back and I love it! Looks like they have them for the MacBook Pro now.

Bought my mbpR 15" not long ago and have been searching for perfect sleeve.

I just got this black leather sleeve from mint cases for a few weeks now -- very well made. I put it under my laptop while I'm on tables, no heating issues.

Interior: soft, wool lining on the inside, won't have to worry about scratches

Exterior/stitching: stitches are black. stitching is solid all the way around. great leather, it will definitely last and look even better with time.

This will definitely protect your laptop from everyday use, bumps, scratches. The open end of the laptop does surround the laptop, as seen in the pictures. The fit is very snug and will not come out if u shake it. Does not add much weight for a leather sleeve and fits easily into laptop compartments for backpacks.

my search is complete :)
