Just got a new MBP.

Last one had matte skin stickers on top and bottom, but this isn't quite enough for protection.

I am looking for an overall very light case for the MBP, not a sleeve. Something that will be on there all the time and protect it from everyday bumps and scrapes. The Sprek cases seem to not be made for the new MBP and are too large on the bottom end.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Has anyone tried a HardCandy hard shell case? It's the only case I could find that stays on all the time and looks like it would actually protect the corners from bumps and such. I'm thinking of plasti-dipping the snap-on part black and the rest blue so it will be opaque, rubberized, and with a matte finish instead of the slippery smudgy plastic all cases seem to be made of.

Totally did not notice the microphone thing though. Am going to have to drill some holes I guess.

Booq Viper, Hard Candy Bubble, CaseCrown

I recently reviewed a couple of sleeve-style cases for my MacBook 13 Retina. The first three are more or less the same review with a shifted focus.

Booq Viper Sleeve

Booq Viper Case

Hard Candy Bubble Case 13

CaseCrown Neoprene Sleeve

I'm not going to paste the text here because they're a bit long, but I appreciated the impressions I read in this thread before I bought these, so this is my contribution. Just deciphering Booq's naming scheme took some thought.

MintCases - Leather Sleeve

My MintCases Leather sleeve arrived for my 13.3" rMBP and I have been using it for a couple of days now. Looks and feels great and fits the rMBP really well.

I often find myself having to change my main bag to suit the day's needs. Some days a briefcase, others a light backpack or messenger and I am able to quickly move my laptop from bag to bag and am happy that it has some protection in each bag.

Looks good, has a leather smell so if that offends then look elsewhere. Stitching all seems to be good and I suspect that some age and scuff marks on the leather outer will give the case some gravitas as it ages. The interior is a grey felted wool and does not scratch the surface although like any sleeve you would want to ensure that no grit is introduced but that is the main reason for using sleeves as other bags can get small objects or dirt in the laptop compartments and scratch the aluminum surface.

Overall I am very satisfied.

I just got my first Mac, a MBP 15 retina and bought a Joli Originals Sleeve for it. It was pretty pricey but the quality seems good.
Now I'm thinking of also getting a booqbag boa nerve graphite as well to use as my everyday bag and for moving the MBP around in when I have to.

Just getting the bags/sleeves for these is turning out to be an expensive prospect in itself ;)

http://www.knomobags.com/uk/laptop-sleeve-leather-black-13-laptop-bag.html

I ended up getting this Knomo case for £21 delivered from laptops direct (ignore their incorrect picture it is the 14-062 they'll ship) in the end:

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/ZAGK..._Sleeve_Black_14-062-B_14-062-BLK/version.asp

Extremely happy with it, quality product as always from knomo and made from really nice leather. Don't think anyone would guess its £21, but then again its only that price as its EOL, originally £80 (probably £50-60 street price).

In the end I thought the two Air sleeves may be a little tight and wouldn't accommodate anything else. This one has to side flaps where you can stick charger/etc and also a strap so you can use it as a stand alone bag, while its still skinny enough to be used as a sleeve inside another bag.

Yep I bought one of those Radtech keyboard cover cloths and it's too thick to use with the Retina even though it's advertised for it.

There's no way that cover will allow a retina to close properly. You can't even use palm rest covers.

Thanks for the warning, was about to order the Sena leather folio. So the cover must be completely closed? If not it shouldn't be a problem as only the rubber straps on top would actually touch the leather on the palm rest.

Are you sure ? I was just about to order one...They say it is supposed to be very thin ? Can you post a picture of the one that you have got ?

This is the one I purchased:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P25DGE/ref=pe_385040_30332200_pe_309540_26725410_item

It is very thin but it's not thin enough for the lid to completely close. It's still a great microfiber cloth but I don't use it in between the screen and keyboard.

I am saying can you post the pic of the one you have got, like the actual one that you have not the website picture !

Just wanted to know what is the thickness you say is with the one that you have !

It's black and you aren't going to see the thickness of it from a picture I post on here... It's extremely thin, but it's not thin enough to keep the lid from not reaching it's final closed position. You can barely fit a couple sheets of paper in between the screen and the palm rest/keyboard with the lid closed.

anyone using Otterbox Clearly Protected Skin for the macbook pro?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFT3kvt-QBg

I just ordered one the other day and am now waiting for it to arrive. These are the old Wrapsol protectors and I used them on my MBAs in the past and they are great. I got a bestskinsever setup for my rMBP and while it does the job I like the matte look and grippiness of the Wrapsol better.

I was debating in between otterbox/wrapsol and the bestskinsever.. BSE also has a matte finish option.. i believe they should be identical with otterbox, except of that bse has side strips for protection. Not sure what to get. So u really did not like the glossy look/feel of the bse for ur MBA's?

I actually have the matte version but I just didn't like the look and texture of it as much as the Otterbox/Wrapsol ones I've had in the past. It's really kind of nitpicking though, both of them are very good and I plan on continuing to use the side pieces from the BSE set.

ah, thanks for your reply, this is what i wanted to hear. I've used wrapsol right from the first time they came out for the iphones, and there after on all of my ipads, until recently i came to know they are taken over by otterbox. Good for them.
So.. Otterbox be it. Does BSE sell the side cutouts seperately?

In the above YouTube video link showing how to apply Otterbox, that guy talks about spraying some solution that he is holding directly on the body of Macbook, is that safe ? That looks freakin scary to spray some solution directly on the Mac surface ? How safe is that ?

I bought one from their site. It was advertised for the new 13" retina and I'm having no problems closing the machine with it in place. Are you sure you bought the newer model?

So does your rMBP closes down properly with the cloth in between the lid and keyboard ?
