Bug with auto mounting network volumes

Hello. I found a bug with mounting NAS volumes. I'm using script to connect NAS volume on startup. The problem is, that while connecting, opens dialog window with filled fields Name and Password. So instead of automatic connection, I have push OK. Later on I add username and password to script, but it didn't help. The username and password are in Keychain.

Everything worked fine with El Capitan.

tell application "Finder"
try
mount volume "afp://username@password@192.168.10.12:548/XBMC/"
mount volume "afp://username@password@192.168.10.12:548/XBMC 2/"
delay 1
end try
end
tell

Three issues so far (late 2012 mini):
1. Safari causes major overheating (high 90s celsius). Jumps up very quickly and fan spins up. Switched to Chrome and now in the mid 50s as it should be.
2. The Cmd+drag to move that was mentioned by one of the pre-release users still doesn't work.
3. When scrolling down in Excel it intermittently scrolls up a few cells. Seems OK elsewhere. Could be Microsoft's fault but was OK before.

Hi, with reference to the temps of the processors, Where do you find that information? Is it a built in that i've missed or from an app?

Thanks

Here's my running list of issues mostly affecting my work but I bring my own computer to work but with these issues, I think I'm without a doubt going to go back to El Capitan until this is all worked out:

1. Microsoft Lync 2011, Keychain issues, resolved for now but it has reappeared once already
2. Pulse VPN client (supposedly an update is out but my IT has to update their server and we're a 5,000 person company so I won't hold my breath)
3. ESET Antivirus is working but McAffee still isn't. Our IT installs McAffee onto Macs and since I'm BYOC, I went with ESET and am glad I did as our VPN requires Antivirus be installed to login.
4. Parallels. I'm not running the latest version that's "optimized for Sierra" but since I have iCloud Drive enabled and Parallels has my Windows 10 VM in the /home/documents folder, I'm having a lot of issues. iCloud is constantly syncing and parallels keeps having huge performance problems. Not crashing but it's slow as a dog.
5. Logitech MX Pro w/o the Logitech application installed using the USB dongle thing, my mouse disappears on screen. It still works but no pointers is showing
6. re-draw and monitor going offline (standby) on my Dell 4K IPS 24" UltraSharp Display connected to my 15" late-2013 MBP w/ Discreet graphics connected via Mini DisplayPort to the Lightning Port
7. Waking up from sleep, the monitor won't even come on so I have to keep the computer from going to sleep
8. Reeder (RSS) for Mac has issues with YouTube videos playing and I just open them in Safari
9. Expose or whatever Apple calls it now I have 2 hot-corners enabled top right shows desktop. bottom right shows all open windows. top right is fine, bottom right has some severe stuttering
10. Multiple displays and my dock has hidden itself a few times behind my full-screen Mail.app on the MBP display and I have to manually move it over by going out of full-screen on mail.

I believe that covers it. The parrallels issues and the mouse issues are probably the ones that most effect my workflow and means I'm going to spend all day on Sunday going back to El Capitan. I didn't run any of the betas and I had it installed on iMac with the GM for a week and had no issues but then again, that computer isn't used for work. It's used for Lightroom and Final Cut Pro. My MBP lives in Microsoft / Enterprise world and it wasn't ready for prime-time.

You're going to have to move your VM. As long as you are syncing your Documents folder into iCloud, this will always be a problem. It's not a bug, just the ever-changing nature of VM files.

Just created a folder in home/ called Parallels. Wish there was a way in iCloud drive to setup Exclusions like yes sync documents but exclude this folder. Adobe, Microsoft, EA and Parallels were all using / documents to store massive files.

I am on a Macbook Air 2012 and my performance is gone pretty far down and I'm not sure what's going on. I do use Chrome and never had problems with it. Since Sierra, my battery is degrading much faster than before and my mac runs mildly hot whereas before it never was like that unless I was on a Netflix marathon lol. This is happening constantly even if I only have the browser open and I am not even streaming anything. Anyone have ideas or a possible fix?

UPDATE: Kernel panics are now happening every 10-15 minutes. Looks like its from Apple's USB driver. Not sure how to fix this. Going to downgrade my 2013 iMac back to El Capitan for now and check on the Apple support forums.

What hardware are you running Sierra in?

Time Machine backup is painfully slow. The initial backup after the upgrade was huge, so I didn't pay it any attention, now it's taking 30+ minutes to backup 300 - 400 MB - they were never that slow prior to the upgrade. I turned of virus scanning of the TM drive, but it made no difference. It's on a single 1.5 TB Firewire 800 drive. That's the only FW drive I have now, so it isn't connected to a bunch of other drives. I haven't been able to find anything firm on it being an issue yet, but I'll keep looking.

There was an earlier thread on this issue on another forum claiming that the kernel is throttling the disk. There was a suggestion to run fs_usage and determine whether or not you are getting THROTTLED entries. Temporarily changing throttling has been reported to speed up the backup process by many fold.

Here was the recommendation from the following link: http://apple.stackexchange.com/ques...ne-ridiculously-slow-after-el-capitan-upgrade

Part of the issue is that low priority input/output-operations (I/O) now seems to get throttled heavily. You can check it via Terminal (can be found via Spotlight (usually bound to ⌘Space) and entering terminal) then entering at the bash prompt:

fs_usage backupd

and look for the THROTTLED entries. If you see them, the backup is throttled.

So if you have a ton of files, just the time it takes to do the I/O takes forever, even if the files are small (because it performs a bunch more I/O operations around xattrs etc. than it used to).

Go to a Terminal and enter:

sudo sysctl debug.lowpri_throttle_enabled=0

For me, this speed it up from 72 hours to ~4 hours on an filesystem with 2.5 million files.

It's also a good idea to re-enable the throttling after your backup finished successfully with the following command

sudo sysctl debug.lowpri_throttle_enabled=1

Not enjoying Sierra so far. I'm really tempted to roll back to El Capitan, which was pretty rock solid at this point.

1) As soon as the upgrade finished, I invoked Siri as a test and caused a kernel panic in what must have been record time

2) Siri in general is pretty useless. Voice commands like "Play The Sweater Song by Weezer" will result in a random song by an artist like Usher to play which has *none* of the keywords in either the artist, title, or album name. My mic is fine and the phrase I am dictating is shown correctly.

3) Animations as a whole seem really unsmooth now. Invoking Mission Control and maximizing a window to full screen transition in a very erratic, choppy way. This is true either with the built in nVidia graphics or using nVidia's latest web driver for my GeForce GTX 780M.

4) Hooray. A bug from the days of Yosemite has returned. Graphical UI elements in Dark Mode are nice and jagged again. I'm so glad they brought this feature back after fixing it in El Capitan. /s See attached photo which shows how horrible stacks look now. it's particularly noticeable around the hover background selector. (File names were intentionally blurred out.)

[/B]

I have been having a large number of kernel panics myself (12 or 13 yesterday)-- Sometimes immediately after bringing the system online again (within a minute of rebooting). I have uninstalled potentially conflicting software, including an older version of the Logitech Mouse driver which Apple Support suggested I do (after taking a system capture and having escalation engineering review the logs). Oddly, the kernel extensions were never loaded when I took a look with kextstat, so I suspected this was not the cause. Needless to say, the removal of these device drivers did not resolve the issue. The last application I have removed was Parallels Desktop version 12 while I wait for further analysis by escalation engineering at Apple - I hope to hear back from them sometime soon. I also opened a case with Parallels to see if they are aware of any issue - they responded simply by asking me to remove and reinstall Parallels (not a lot of confirmation there). The panics have been so frequent that I have not been able to get a solid backup of the system. I am considering booting into safe mode to at least get the backup completed.

[Update] Temporarily uninstalling Parallels seems to have resolved my Kernel Panics (at least for the last four hours, where previously I was getting a high number of them). Apple escalation engineering mentioned they saw some sort of conflict with Parallels in the second set of crash logs I gave them, but were not specific. I plan on leaving Parallels 12 uninstalled for the next few days to determine whether full stability has returned.

I've encountered two hardcore freezes with Sierra. While working in Adobe Premiere, the whole screen completely froze but sound went on. It never unfreezed in 10 minutes, I had to hard-reboot. I've never seen a freeze like this on any of my Macs.

Can't stream videos...

Safari doesn't seem to be able to detect HTML5 nor any other format, though Youtube lists it as a supported browser. Anyone else dealing with this?

On my MBA Using chrome, when I go full screen with a video - be it youtube, or something else, it does it with them all- after a few seconds it crashes and then reverts to the mac login screen.

Very irritating.

Not bugs, but Safari no longer has the options for minimum font size and Zoom text only.

Edit: I just experimented by pressing Alt/Option in the View dropdown list and "Zoom in" changes to "Make text Bigger" same for "Zoom Out". I still don't like the fact that they hid this from users who are not familiar with OS Xs hidden features and how to find/look for them.

The function is still there, they just removed the GUI to it.

Just enter this in the Terminal:

Code:
defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2MinimumFontSize -int 24

Change the 24 to whatever you want the minimum font size to be.. preferably something above 8...

Naturally, quit out of Safari before you do this.

<== ATTENTION VIRTUALBOX USERS ==>

Just a quick warning to those of you here who have Sierra installed on unsupported machines. In the unsupported machines thread we have discovered that having VirtualBox installed in Sierra may wreak havoc on your system.

The problem seems to be related to some of the kernel extensions that Oracle installs.

One of the biggest symptoms to date is that VirtualBox will break your iSight camera, so that it does not even appear under the Hardware/Camera section in the System Report. At least three people have now reported this problem, myself included.

If you open FaceTime, Photo Booth or any other app that uses the built-in camera, you will see a message that says that no camera is available, and that you need to connect a camera.

Short of totally uninstalling VirtualBox, there is currently no fix or workaround for this issue.

After a long, arduous troubleshooting process -- please see my post here -- last night I totally removed VirtualBox from my system, being as I really don't need it. My iSight camera was immediately fixed upon doing so.

Can anyone else reproduce this graphics bug?

On my late-2013 rMBP 15-inch connected to an external monitor, I can see this bug:
1. Enable Zoom in System Preferences/Accessibility/Zoom by checking "Use scroll gesture"
2. Try to zoom in and slowly move your mouse between contrasting colors
3. You should see fine lines trailing the mouse cursor. They will disappear when you resize the screen.
4. The only option to work around this is by unchecking Smooth Images in the same Accessibility/Zoom dialog, but then when you zoom in, you see lots of pixelation.

This was bugging me too so a quick search yielded going to view in safari and then customize toolbar. It then said to drag the the AA zoom function to the toolbar and when you want to increase the size of the type hit the big A and smaller A to make things smaller. Works quite well for my 62 year old eyes.

Yes but this will zoom all the things in your webpage (images, menus, etc...) so the terminal command is the best way to enable the minimum font size again. I really can't understand why apple has removed it....someone know?

@lotones

Just an update with my on-going conversation with the senior apple advisor.

They have taken two batches of data files and a screen recording of the issue i am having.

A couple of things we have tried (which did not work for me) are:

1) Doing a NVRAM reset - (Shut down the Mac, turn it on again, wait for the 'chime' sound and then hold down CMD,OPTION,P AND R buttons. When the Mac restarts again, let go of the buttons.

2) Open finder, press Command and G. In the folder window enter this path /Library/LaunchDaemons/ and remove all the files listed in the LaunchDaemons.

Sorry if this does not help, just sharing the info from the Apple Advisor.

Sorry i do not have any good news yet!

Regards,

Nab

So far...

1. Upgrade borked all the mailboxes that were 'On My Mac' - they all disappeared
2. Recovery of backups of mailboxes was painful as the import shows all numeric the sub-folders
3. Upgrade borked all my calendars - showed absolutely nothing
4. Import of backup of calendar shows blank calendar until you exit the app and restart when, as if by magic the calendars now show
5. For the first time ever, on any version in the last decade, my wi-fi drops from the mac - about once/twice a day, its not the wifi itself as it remains visible on the phone etc.
6. More a bad feature - they removed the only useful console log entries produced by Time Machine - those showing how much was being backed up from each drive

Apple seems to want to consume my disk by filling it with useless messages in the logs:

7. Getting the following message stream continuously in Console, roughly every second, the numbers vary in each set
11:10:39.608520 +0100 com.apple.ctkpcscd setting up listener for new peer 0x7fc315c10760

11:10:39.609745 +0100 com.apple.ctkpcscd terminating peer 0x7fc315c10760 because of connection error
8. Getting this message every second of the day in console log - numbers seem constant

No problems with textedit here either.
How much memory are you running with? Also - maybe you're having networking issues, as both of those apps use cloud connections.
I have upgraded to Sierra. I was unaware that it put all my Documents and Desktop into iCloud. When I checked my iCloud drive the documents folder had all my Password Manager logins in it. I felt I didn't want these on the cloud so I deleted the documents folder from iCloud drive. Little did I know that this deleted it all from my iMac drive as well. This is terrible. I also had loads of Notes in the documents folder. Fortunately, all my other data is in a different folder. Documents and Desktop have now disappeared from my Finder sidebar.

Have my documents vanished into thin air never to be seen again? How do I get the Documents and Desktop sidebar folders reinstated.

Not entirely certain why you quoted me here? (seems that issue and you deleting your Documents and Desktop folders are completely unrelated).

If they're not in your trash, hopefully you have a time machine backup to restore them from. Failing that, you'll have to contact Apple Support to get them to restore these folders (pretty sure they'll have snapshots in the cloud, so they'll be able to restore these) - this will be an all too common mishap with people having these folders housed in the cloud.

Whoah! That's a scary thought!

That is why since iCloud first became available, I have never signed into iCloud with my Apple ID. I use the App Store, FaceTime and Messages with my Apple ID, but that is it.

I do not want any of my personal data stored on Apple's computers, or on anyone else's remote servers, without my express permission.

Of course, for me it is rather easy, because I don't use any kind of mobile devices such as iPads or iPhones. Everything remains on my iMac, or on my local backup drives. Period.

Thank you for reading and replying. I just picked a post that appeared to be on topic. Sorry it was you. I have solved my problem but it still bugs me how iCloud works in the background even though you don't want it to. I use other cloud storage solutions and would like to keep iCloud out of it.

Yep, so you want to disable that option in your cloud settings (make sure you have them backed up somewhere else before you turn it off) :) (also may want to disable the optimize mac storage option, so everything is local)
