??¿huh?¿
I thought we were talking about the script that @parrotgeek1 provided. It looks like it was made to be used on another partition of USB.

Actually the one that @dosdude1 made and uploaded to my site. A moderator removed that link due to violations of MacRumors Rules. I can help you privately somewhere else.

Help us both. How about facebook. You have a page right? The Parrotgeek1 script isn't working for me. Nothing has.

It seems no matter what I do on my late 2008 Air I get stuck at the 'can not' symbol after the Apple logo with progress bar. Tried running @parrotgeek1's tool, same result.

TMRJIJ, Can you go through the steps with me to fully install sierra and get the USB working now that parrotgeek1 created a script?

hold command+V at boot , what do you see on the screen [it should be white text instead of the no smoking symbol]

I'm doing a fresh installation using a supported Mac currently, but I'll try later. I did do that once prior to using your tool, and the symbol came up after the verbose mode text without an explanation.

thank you apparently everymac is wrong
Or was it replaced? because, a LOT of people online say it has bcm4322

what does it say under wi-fi section "Driver version"? does it mention atheros?
Thank you parrotgeek1.

But I have a bit of a problem. I'll boot up and get to see the login screen. However I can't get the cursor from the trackpad to operate. My MacBook Pro is version 5,1. How can I correct this problem.

Thank you.

Doesn't seem to work :( It first boots fine for a bit but then displays the 'broken' icon.
Mine does the same unfortunately. This is what it looks like in verbose mode:

hey folks - so I have a Mac Pro 3,1 running Sierra with the original BCM wifi. Happy to help with any testing to get that wifi card working (note that I have bought and waiting to be delivered the Bluetooth 4.0 and wifi ac card which will work natively - but in the meantime, it would be good to have wifi working on my original card so I can have location services working).

What did you do for the install?

I'm writing a guide / tutorial for a MacPro 3,1 install on the weekend and will publish it then. It will be a clear, step by step guide so you can get Sierra running on a MacPro 3,1

Thanks!!!! Have been reading about upgrading the BT card and video card......did not know i could upgrade that BT for $55 (adapter & card)........i really do not feel like parting with my 3.1 yet.....

Good work, all involved! I finally got back home, sat down to my MacBookPro5,5 to check in to see where you all were at, and YAY! Looking good!

Reminds me of my days back hacking Mac OS 9.2 to run on the hardware that Steve Jobs decided to cast aside... just because. Turns out, most off of it ran just fine. Apple had just plain decided to be pricks and make some "new" customers. Jerks. Pretty bad that the Apple with $220B in the bank has chosen to do the same. (My conspiracy theory: considering I bought a MacBookPro5,5 13", and had been waiting EAGERLY for Apple to release JUST THAT combination of awesome, and then it went on, along with the 2009 mini, to sell like WILDFIRE--no surprise there, eh?--I believe that there are likely still a lot of them in the wild. Consider that the 13" MacBook Pro non-retina hasn't even been UPDATED since 2012. So, I'd bet they just opened a 10% market potential with that 2009 Pro cleaving. Again, jerks.)

@dosdude1 is there any possible updates on the status of no SSE 4.1 like on the MacBook 3,1 support? I know these things take time, but I would like to know just because I am a little concerned about future support for my Mac Pro which doesn't have SSE 4.1. So all updates on that in the future would be much appreciated ;)

For it to work with SSE4.1, a custom kernel would have to be written. This is how SSE2-only hackintoshes worked back in the Snow Leopard days (OS X required SSE3). I assume the same sort of emulation could be done with SSE4.1.

Hopefully, there is some crafty people out there to do kernels I'm sweating a bit less now. Thanks

I'll be testing for the iMac7,1 in the coming days and will report my results. I have a SLAYX Penryn on order, just waiting for it to come in.

Some notes for anyone else who wants to try with this machine:
  • If you've worked on one of these iMacs before, it's time consuming but not hard. If it's your first time, however, it's very tedious.
  • Do NOT try to use a Core 2 Extreme Penryn in this iMac. EFI was never updated for Penryn on this machine, and as such, it will not read the CPUID of an Extreme Penryn correctly and will run at a fairly slow speed (700MHz if I remember correctly). I recommend the SLAYX T9500 since it's the highest clocked non-Extreme Penryn on the 800MHz FSB and won't have this issue since the multiplier is enforced by the processor. With a locked Penryn the only negative effect of the unrecongized CPUID is the wrong information under About This Mac.
  • It's possible to use a BCM94360CD with an adapter from osxwifi.com and avoid the wifi kext issues with the 4321 completely. The 7,1 has only two wifi antennas, and the card will run fine like that in 2x2 mode, however you can get an extra antenna that has some 3M adhesive, snake it up behind the RF shielding inside the back of the iMac somewhere and mount it in there. It works well and you'll get the 3x3 speeds.
  • Go ahead and swap out your HDD with an SSD while you're in there, it brings some new life to this old machine.

That makes me think the usb patch isn't working. Can you use the keyboard? If not, please tell me

Reminds me of my days back hacking Mac OS 9.2 to run on the hardware that Steve Jobs decided to cast aside...

The bad thing about that is that most hardware actually runs better on 9.2.x than it does on 9.1 on my experience. I noticed a big difference when I upgraded my 9600/200MP and on most other 604E systems, although I do find OS 9 to be a bit piddly on 603 machines. There is the fact, though, that 603s are mostly lower end systems or laptops and I think part of the issue is they tend to be a bit cramped for RAM. My 6500, for example, maxes at 128 as two 64mb sticks, and it took a LOT of digging through my RAM boxes to find two sticks that would make it happy. I could take the 3400c up to 144mb, but I don't feel like spending more on RAM than the computer is worth. I hit the jackpot when I bought an untested Kanga and it came with a 128mb card installed. My Performa and 3400c both are running 8.1 for that reason, and my 5300c is on 7.5.5

To be fair about the most recent release, though, late PPC adopters and early Intel adopters(with the exception of Mac Pro) really got screwed on OS upgrades. The late 2005 G5s(dual core 2.0, dual core 2.3, quad 2.5) shipped with Tiger and got a hard cut-off(meaning no way around it) at Leopard. CoreDuo Macs shipped with Tiger also, and have a hard cut-off at Snow Leopard. Fortunately, at least, it looks like the first Mac Pro(1,1) didn't hit its hard cut-off until Sierra.
