I have installed the Public Beta on this ol' MacPro3.1. The build number is 16A238m, so I am presuming this is PB1,
and would now like to install PB2, I have followed the instructions to change false to true from the post numbered
#1526, saved and restarted but I still have no updates available.
Are there any other actions I can take/ try to get PB2 showing in the App Store.

Thanks in advance.

Try the patch posted in message #1532

Is there a way to download macos sierra on mac pro 3,1. App store responds with message that it will not install on this machine.

I have a copy uploaded, just PM me your email address and I'll send you the link.

@dosdude1: Do you have the source code of your programs somewhere? A git repo would be nice! Just want to see what the programs do.

@dosdude1 i am able to download PB 2, installing process completed, after reboot its still showing PB1 build number
or how do i recognize its PB 2?
while checking for updates in app store PB2 is showing still...

macbook 5,1 late 2008

Try to install a second time. One person who tested it for me said it took 3 tries and a few reboots before it worked.

Make sure you properly specify your system language. I'm adding detection for that in the future, but for now, make sure you properly specify it, in English, with a capital first letter.
Hi,

So this time it worked, in the language section I deleted English, then re-typed English.
This seemed to do the trick, but may have been a coincidence. I have noticed though on first install using your patch
the install takes only 15 minutes, which is normally half the time it would take to install Yosemite or El Capitan.
I then decided that I would attempt another install over the first, this took about 30 minutes, is this something others have noticed.

Hello everyone!

I had a question you: why don't you wait until Apple releases the stable release of MacOs Sierra to try all this which you are saying in this thread? A beta release is by its definition not stable, and if you want to install that on an unsupported Mac, then its REALLY unstable.

I'm going to wait until the stable release of MacOs Sierra or a bit further on, I'm sure by then my hero dosdude1 or other amazing programmers will have a much more stable version of the patch, once Apple is done with all the testing.

Is all this hurry to install MacOs Sierra in unsupported macs for a specific reason (are you developers?), or just to have it installed as soon as possible, regardless of all the instability?

Regards,

Roberto

I think that people want it for various reasons, programming, new XCode, new functionalities, new security updates, new software.
Maybe, it's just my opinion, but I think that all this hurry to install Sierra is happening because people want to know if their unsupported hardware is final relase capable, which is a sign for them that they do not need to upgrade their hardware until next year and next OS release. Also all those people working on patches for OS/OSX for unsupported macs want to finish their work until final release this fall and want to have it fully working until it. So yeah, I found out that programmers and community here are some kind of team with benefits to everyone. For example all those people that download and install patch on their unsupported machines are beta-testers. For people coding the patches and also for Apple. As you can see in all posts before, a lot of people is writing here to inform about errors/bugs and issues with patch and also with OS. This team work here is crazy and beautiful. Just look at those guys here writing some history. I think this is awesome. I hope you guys that coding and testing here will have a nice, long lives because this titanic work of yours is giving smile to older mac users all around the world.

Best Wishes

Thanks s4keru, I was clearly missing this explanation :)

All of us on soon to be unsupported macs are keen to see if we can extend the lifespan of them, so it is great to see
that there are brains out there that are working on ways of getting Sierra installed. Once it is installed it is very stable,
I have not encountered any problems so far.
Apple itself seeds Beta versions to the public who have signed up, as every mac out there will be running different software/ apps to there specific requirements, so it's good for them to know if people encounter the same problems
and can iron out common bugs before the official roll out. Even then it can take a few versions of the official OS to be
'settled'.

I've been running with the DP3 update on my macbook pro 5,1 (late 2008) model for a couple of days now and have experienced a few problems. I was wondering if others have seen these also.

(1) when the computer goes into "sleep" mode - either by closing the cover, clicking Sleep menu item or just not doing anything for a period of time then when coming out of this mode the trackpad actions are not processed. I.E. clicking on a program icon or menu item is ignored. Initially the menu and "right" click do show menu items but clicking on them does nothing. Then, usually a minute or so later, the desktop goes "dark". The only way I've found to recover from this state is to reboot the machine. So, there seems to be some problem with the trackpad support.

(2) I wanted to try running XCode beta on the machine, so downloaded and installed it from developer website - however when trying to launch it I get an error message that a required plugin could not be loaded (didn't identify plugin name or provide any other details). I deleted the application and re-downloaded it a second time but had the same problem. (NOTE: I didn't have this problem installing Xcode Beta on my supported iMac.)

(3) Accessing the App Store to check for updates works ok but when I tried to login to the App Store, I got a message that the machine could not be verified and so the login failed. I did find references to this problem (with other versions of the os) via google and the recommended solution was to delete the following file:

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/Networkinterfaces.plist

I did this and then rebooted and was able to log into the App Store.

Upgrade-installs (installing over another OS without erasing the drive) always take about twice as long as fresh installs. A 15 minute install of any Mac OS X/macOS version off a USB drive to a clean hard drive is completely normal.

Hello everyone, i've noticed today this problem on my Mac mini 3,1 and wanted to ask if anyone else seen it before.
I'm on public beta 2 (updated ok by modifying a dist file as stated on previous posts) and whenever I receive a cellular
Facetime call the accept button do not work, it's just grey out and do nothing, while iPhone 5s keeps ringing. I can though
decine calls and make calls just fine from my Mac. Do you thins it's a macOS Sierra Pb2 glitch or is it that my Mac is
unsupported with Sierra?

Sounds like a glitch with Sierra.

IF it helps any, mine said PB2 was installed in the App Store when

My button has the proper text color but so far have not been able to answer calls on my Sierra install. Not on an officially supported machine or unofficial. I can, like you, make calls but cannot answer.

To remain on topic here, all other features so far are working great with my unsupported MBP. Excellent work dosdude1

Hi I for one like trying new things I picked up a 2008 imac with no hd so first thing I did was load latest osx for it then jumped onto sierra beta builds, bit of a learning curve for me coming from windows but I'm enjoying the new stuff and am in awe of the guys working for us to keep our machines relevant big kudos to them

The Xserve 2,1 won't work, as the CPUs it supports don't support SSE4.1 instructions, which Sierra requires.

id like to point out that the Xserve 2,1 uses Harptown CPUs same as the Mac Pro 3,1 and both do SSE4.1 (and even has a 64bit efi). (the Xserve1,1 uses the same chipset as the Mac Pro 1,1/2,1 the Xserve2,1 uses the same chipset as a Mac Pro 3,1 and the Xserve3,1 uses the same chipset in the Mac Pro 4,1/5,1)
