No, you can go ahead and remove it if you want. But, as I said, it makes no difference on machines with nVidia cards. The Patch Updater tool will not prompt you to install it again if you do remove the kext.

It definitely made some difference on mine. Then again, it was the first restart after Mohave install and the updater's cache rebuild. I'll test again and confirm (or not). Thanks.

I haven't tried installing an update over a previous version, I just downloaded the new InstallESD.dmg (from a URL I found in the software catalog) and redid the process outlined in my manual patch tutorial completely from scratch.
[doublepost=1531355146][/doublepost]I fixed iSight camera on MacBook7,1.

As well as replacing IOUSBHostFamily.kext, you need to also replace IOUSBFamily.kext.

There may be other fallout from this, nothing that I've seen yet but backup the old file & be careful!

:)

I just installed Mojave on a Mid 2009. I read your solution. However where can I find these files so I can replace them? I just think its great you guys have been able to bring new life to these old devices.

Thanks do you have the link for donwload?
Where you able to get a copy of the files?

@dosdude1

A couple of reboots did the trick. Dunno why, but the Firefox glitches disappeared. I left the AMD kext installed since it ain't loaded anyway. So the only issues I can add to the mbp 5,3 list are:

- bad font smoothing (NVidia?)
- iSight not working (black screen in PhotoBooth)

Can we update the OP?

Thanks, I'll work on my macPro 3,1 when I get a chance.

Bear with me a moment this IS about 10.14 beta - but background first..

I have a white MB early 2009 running 10.13.5 - thanks to the support/patches you and the crew here provide

screen-shot-2018-07-13-at-12-46-32-pm-png.770498

I applied the bootROM patch using your tool found here. I knowingly did this AT MY OWN RISK. My machine was NOT bricked as a result of this.... it works BUT...

BUT...when I power on at first I get a long full volume tone for about 4 seconds and the DVD drive starts, the power light stays on but the screen is black. It stays like that even if I leave it for 10 minutes.

If after this ‘almost start’, I hold the power button down to force a shut down, wait a couple of seconds, then press the power button again it boots again - but this time normally.

Should it do this? If not, have you any suggestions as to how I should fix it, so it just boots first time.

I'd like to use the patcher for macOS 10.14 Mojave on this machine but I'm nervous about using it if I have somehow not applied the bootROM patch for HS correctly.

(I have a copy of the removal tool through the link posted some time ago if I need to use that???)

Thanks again for all the work in getting these patches to work.

Thanks again for all the work in getting these patches to work.

I would remove it and see if that fixes your issue. If so then try reapplying it and hopefully it will work correctly this time.

It updates the patches on your system, so that if a new development is found, you can just install it with one click from there, instead of having to go through the whole process of making a patched USB installer with the latest version of the tool, booting from that, and re-running the post-install patch.

This has been a solution floating around for awhile now, and while it does work, it causes instability with the system (random kernel panics). Maybe a solution to this could be found, but I haven't really looked into it all that deeply.
Thank you, it's clear for me now !

Got what working on a 2018 what? If you’re asking if anyone got the Mojave Patcher working on a 2018 MacBook Pro then that would be a no because it doesn’t need to be patched.
He has another thread was asking if anyone could get macOS Mojave installed on the 2018 MacBook Pro as several was stating that it says the version can't be installed so I replied that since its a new model it might not be added to the list of supported Mac yet that Mojave was still in the beta phase

Hi @ASentientBot - my mbp 5,3 iSight doesn't work (black or blank screen) even though the camera light is on. The OP states you found a solution. Is there something I'm missing? I'm on latest DP 3 installed with latest patcher.

Thanks.

On Tuesday when beta 4 is released it’ll be added. I’m sure of it.

Hello first of all thanks for all the work you dosdude1 and the others are doing. I successfully installed Mojave on my MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2010 and I just managed to get the iSight to work.

Instead of replacing the whole IOUSBFamily.kext I narrowed it down (using IORegistryExplorer) to /S/L/E/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOUSBLib.bundle just replacing that from High Sierra (10.13.5) the iSight started working without even having to reboot and to be clear I didn't touch IOUSBHostFamily.kext.

Mac Pro 3.1 with Apple HD5870:

Patcher 0.1b10

Post Install App works again :)
legacy graphics gives now HD5870 acceleration !! :)
some little glitches, but much better now

btw, my other 3.1 with GTX680 was running like a cat, even without any patches (beside platformSupport.plist, boot.efi and com.apple.telemetry.plugin)

Wow, finally got it installed,(8 goes at it) erased & reformatted USB, download the latest patch, clean install and there it is. Graphics a little jerky, dragging finder windows, etc, but up and running! Really smooth install. Thanks so much dosdude1.

Footnote; I think reformat of USB was the primary issue, can't say for sure though. Also, format SSD (APFS) with patch utility.

Next step migrate files & see what works or does not.
So far most apps work with Mojave.

That method didn't work for me (MacBook 7,1). I had to replace both IOUSBFamily.kext and IOUSBHostFamily.kext (the entire file, from 10.13.6). I used KextBeast to load the kexts and the terminal command sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1" before I rebooted. Now the iSight cam seems to work fine. However replacing simply IOUSBLib.bundle didn't work in my case.

Hi - I also tried replacing the bundle in my S/L/E/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns and no go. My bundle is v900.4.1 (202Kb - 10/13/17) from 10.13.5. Is that the one you swapped in? How are you testing your iSight? I'm doin so with PhotoBooth (my LED is green though)

did you try your Isight in FaceTime

Interesting. I'm experiencing the same but am a little weary of replacing my entire kext. Did you notice any other side effects?

Provided I am still on Mojave beta 2 and iSight still works OOB, the entire IOUSBHostFamily.kext is mandatory to make any HID USB devices working on Mojave, don't know these simplifier Kext-easy-Installer apps to me once work and 10 nope, maybe KextUtility is more reliable, but in general when I install/copy/replace a kext/plugin/bundle/unix/plist I do it manually through chown/chmod entire S/L/E and then kextcache -i / (possibly directly booting from single user mode sudo free).

To me both iSight Camera and Photo Booth work just replacing IOUSBHostFamily.kext from HS 10.13.6, not sure it will work from Mojave beta 3, but I attach anyway my untouched Mojave beta 2 IOUSBFamily.kext, just for those interested in keeping a possible more updated fix instead using the HS one.

Did something significant change between b8 and b10? Yesterday, when I tried b8 on an iMac 11,2 (core i3, 8 GB, 250 GB SSD, HD 5670), it KPed after applying the video patch. Today, I tried beta 10 and two odd things happened.
1. I went to get a cup of coffee while waiting for the install to the cleanly erased SSD to complete and when I got back, the 11,2 had rebooted automatically and was at the full setup screen for MacOS BEFORE I had applied the post-install!!!! The video was a little glitchy, but I could setup and sign in no problem.
2. I then rebooted from the b10 installer and ran the post-install with the legacy video patch and the iMac is now booted and the HD5670 video seems to be at least partially accelerated-I am watching MacBreak Weekly while I type this and no video problems at all.
Nice job guys.

Update: Maps displays a black screen with blue location dot and the +/- buttons are glitchy flashing black/white, so some acceleration is missing, but the Mac is usable for email, browsing, etc.
Update2: Facetime/iSight camera is working as well
