32 bit or old apps perhaps?

Hi.

I installed macOS 10.14.1 using dosdude1's patch. Now I would like to update to macOS 10.14.2. But if I go to System Preferences and then to System Update, my MacBook Pro 5,5 does not find the 10.14.2 version of Mojave. Any suggestion to solve the problem?

Thanks.

Hi,
In order to update your system in the best possible conditions, with each new version of Mojave, you must download "Install macOS Mojave.app" with the App Store but the easiest way is to use the Dosdude1 Patcher (Thanks! :)): (http://dosdude1.com/mojave/) in the Menu Bar , simply select "Tools > Download macOS Mojave ..." (check each time if you have the latest version of the patcher).

Each time you need to create an installation USB key using the Patcher (you can follow the explanations on the Dosdude1's website: http://dosdude1.com/mojave/).

Then you have to start the machine to update by keeping "ALT" pressed and selecting the created USB key.

Install macOS normally on the desired volume. This will not delete data or Apps on the system being updated (but it is always advisable to back up its data).

When the complete install, reboot back onto the install drive. This time, open the "MacOS Post Install" application as shown on the Dosdude1's website.

In the application, select the Mac model you are using. The optimal patches will be selected for you.
Select the volume you have just installed macOS Mojave on, and click "Patch". When this operation is complete click on "Reboot".

If the system does not reboot properly, boot back again to your USB installer drive, install patch again, and select "Force Cache Rebuild" before rebooting.

After rebooting you should now have a fully functional update of macOS Mojave.

From time to time the "NightShift" is no longer active after update.
Using the patch updater tool, it is possible to re-install this patch. To do so, open the Patch Updater application located in: Applications > Utilities, and select "View Installed Updates", or use the "View > Show Installed Updates" menu in the Menu Bar.
To re-install a patch, simply right-click on it in the list and select "Re-install". Then restart.

I have a MacBookPro6,2 (mid-2010) running High Sierra 10.13.6. Upgraded myself to SSD a couple of years ago, and 8GB RAM.
Created the USB stick yesterday with latest Patcher 1.2.3 that downloaded Mojave install pack; I assume it's 10.14.2
Booting from the USB stick works as it should, but when I reach the stage to start the install, nothing happens. It says 29 minutes left and the progress bar does not move. Waited 5 mins, nothing.
Any clues?

I have now tried three times, starting from scratch reformatting the USB stick. Always the same result, no progress when install is supposed to start.
I think I'm going to give up.

Hi,
Be patient, it takes 10-15 minutes before the indicated time decreases and the bar fills... even when installing on an SSD... on my MacBook Pro equipped with a Samsung 860 EVO SSD, the installation total took 45-50 minutes...

Hi,
Please read the FAQ at the bottom of dosdude1's website (http://dosdude1.com/mojave/) about Apps stop working.

Q: Safari, App Store, and/or Mail stopped working after installing a system update
A: Download and run the Onyx application, select "Maintenance" at the top, then click the Run button.

Unfortunately, I really can’t open almost nothing. I can download Onyx from another PC, but I cannot install on my Mac. I’ve try to install Mojave again, but this time by 11 minutes rest time, my Mac just Restarted and the same sign

Have you tried a different usb drive? This often solves the problem you are having. Also, make sure it is at least 16GB in size.

I recall this being the case when I installed 10.14 and everything went fine. However (on my 6,1 MBP), now when I try installing 10.14.2 with the latest (1.2.3) patcher, it really does seem to be hanging. I left it for about 40 minutes and it never moved beyond 29 minutes remaining on the install. Attaching the log, if someone would be so kind as to take a look.

But the punchline seems to be: "Dec 9 14:08:42 macbook-pro Unknown[557]: 2018-12-09 14:08 macOS Installer[588] (FSEvents.framework) FSEventStreamStart: ERROR: FSEvents_connect() => Unknown service name (1102)"

Unfortunately, I really can’t open almost nothing. I can download Onyx from another PC, but I cannot install on my Mac. I’ve try to install Mojave again, but this time by 11 minutes rest time, my Mac just Restarted and the same sign

Have you change your HDD or is it the original one? Have you checked and repair your HDD with "Disk Utility" before OS installation? You maybe have errors on your HDD or the problem is a defect USB key... Try with an other 16Go USB key if you can.

Hi,
Be patient, it takes 10-15 minutes before the indicated time decreases and the bar fills... even when installing on an SSD... on my MacBook Pro equipped with a Samsung 860 EVO SSD, the installation total took 45-50 minutes...

Success!

I was patient .... it took about 10 minutes for anything to happen, then the whole process took 60 minutes, including post-install patches and the looong second boot into Mojave.

Thanks everyone, and especially @dosdude1 !!

At first glimpse, I thought "hooray!": Someone wrote a NVidia Web Driver patcher, so that the latest High Sierra version can be run under Mojave. Here´s a link to a YT video:
It actually works, but results are still without hardware acceleration, it seems. My test machine is a MacBook Pro 5,2 with external (e)GPU, GTX650 and 10.4.2 (final).
You could download the patcher with the youtube link - I would be glad if someone could verify this. I see a slight chance that @dosdude1´s patch for vintage graphics (that I applied to the installation due to the internal Nvidia GeForce 9600M) might interfere somehow and prevents acceleration on the eGPU?

HEVC playback is only supported on relatively new systems running High Sierra or later.

Macbook – 2016 or newer
Macbook Pro – 2016 or newer
iMac – 2017 and newer
iMac Pro – 2017 or newer
27-inch 5K iMac (2015-2017)

Edit: Elmedia Player (available from the app store) supports playback of 4K GoPro video on my Mac Pro 2,1 running El Capitan, but it extracts a heavy toll on the processors.

Damn bro I'll have to drop some serious cash in order to shoot with 4k.

    • Pre-Metal Nvidia video cards (GeForce 5xx series and older)
    • Pre-Metal Intel video cards (Intel HD Graphics 3000 and Intel HD Graphics Arrandale)
Current Issues
  • Minor Issues
    • Graphics anomalies: Currently, pre-metal video cards used in Mojave will produce a weird darkish grey Menu Bar and Finder sidebar when using the light theme. In the dark theme, these anomalies are not present, while other, less obvious anomalies are present (window corners may not render properly, bottom part of dock menus may have artifacts). A workaround for graphics anomalies in light mode is to enable Reduce Transparency in System Preferences > Accessibility > Display (this might create additional side effects beside the obvious loss of transparency as some systems with pre-metal AMD graphics render the dock in dark gray).
    • Built-in iSight cameras: Currently, built-in iSight cameras do not work correctly on some machines. It seems to be hit or miss, but when installing, expect your iSight camera to be non-functional.
    • Trackpad (MacBook5,2 affected only). Trackpad multi-finger gestures on the MacBook5,2 not supported in Mojave. While the trackpad works and is fully usable, Mojave detects it as just a standard mouse, preventing you from changing some trackpad-oriented settings.
  • Major Issues
    • AMD Radeon HD 5xxx/6xxx series GPU acceleration: Currently, it is not possible to get full graphics acceleration when running Mojave on a system with a Radeon HD 5xxx or 6xxx series GPU. Mojave will be almost UNUSABLE without graphics acceleration. This includes the 15" and 17" MacBook Pro systems (MacBookPro8,2 and 8,3). If you want to enable GPU acceleration on these machines, you'll need to disable the AMD GPU (This will work on MacBook Pro 8,2 and 8,3 systems ONLY. You CANNOT disable the AMD GPU in an iMac.) Weird colors will also be produced when running Mojave with one of these video cards installed/enabled. To disable the AMD GPU on a 2011 MacBook Pro 8,2 or 8,3, follow the guide found here.
    • App Store Crashing: Some users have reported crashing upon opening the App Store. This is caused by App Store videos and can be worked around by disabling video autoplay and not viewing App Store videos. This is not a fix, this is a workaround. Safari may also experience crashes with certain kinds of embedded videos.
    • Early-2008 Mac Pro (MacPro3,1) GPU support: When running Mojave, you CANNOT use a newer AMD video card EVEN IF it is a Metal-compatible card and is supported in Mojave. The newer AMD drivers used in Mojave require the SSE4.2 instruction set, which the MacPro3,1 does not support. There is no way around this at this time. Your only GPU upgrade options for MacPro3,1 systems are Nvidia cards, which work perfectly fine.
    • Unsupported WiFi modules in some systems. Macs that use the Broadcom BCM4321 WiFi module will not have functional WiFi when running Mojave. A fix for this is to open up your machine and install a compatible WiFi card. Machines affected include some MacPro3,1, MacBook5,2, MacBookPro4,1, iMac8,1, Macmini3,1, and MacBookAir2,1 systems. Please note that not all these machines will have an unsupported card, this is just a list of machines known to have shipped with that card in some configurations.

Installation:
To install on your machine, you can download and run the macOS Mojave Patcher application, which will let you download a copy of the latest installer app from Apple and create a bootable installer drive for use on unsupported Macs. It contains all the patches necessary to achieve the hardware support listed above. The installation guide can be found here and an installation guide video here.

APFS ROM Patcher:
Warning: This tool could irreversibly brick your EFI chip. Please exercise caution with machines that have multiple EEPROM definitions. Relevant information can be found here and here. The APFS ROM patcher can be found here. Use the password apfs to decrypt the ZIP.

I've achieved how to accept update using 'Software Update' in 'System Preferences' from 10.14.1 to 10.14.2 .

1. Accept the update, wait for download, install and restart;
2. When the boot keeps restarting, attach an usb image of 10.14.1 or 10.14.2 version created with Patch Updater and boot pressing Option before apple logo as you need to do to install this image but not install it;
3. Open Post-install patcher and execute it for your device;
4. When it finishes, the option rebuild kextcache appears but it is broken, then after click to restart, open a terminal, locate your installed Mojave disk (ls /Volumes), open the disk using chroot (chroot /Volumes/[Mac_volume]), and now execute rebuild kext (kextcache -i /);
5. It will force all non-signed drivers to accepted during boot, when it finished, close the terminal and finally accept to restart;
6. Rerun installed 'Patch Updater' after login to restore your features (night shift, isight, ...).

MESSAGE to @dosdude1 : Could you review the post-install to fix the rebuild kext's? When select it, something went wrong and just restart instead of rebuild this in fact.

Download it from the Apple downloads page or download the new app from the patcher and then create a new usb with it.

Hi,
In order to update your system in the best possible conditions, with each new version of Mojave, you must download "Install macOS Mojave.app" with the App Store but the easiest way is to use the Dosdude1 Patcher (Thanks!

OK. Thank you guys.

Hi,

On 10.14.2, iMac Late 2009
Hybrid mode v1.3 :

https://github.com/SpiraMira/HybridMode-Public

Download the latest stable releases from
here

I have replace and rename only this 2 files.

For CoreUI : cd /S*/L*/PrivateFrameworks/CoreUI.framework/Versions/Current
For HIToolbox : cd /S*/L*/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Versions/Current
with those i have download

• CoreUIHybrid-18B75-Fat-v1.3
• HIToolboxMenubar-18B75-Fat-v1.3

It works perfectly, except for the finder's sidebar which stays white on the selections
and does not take the transparency.

Thanks, I replaced these two files on my MBP5,2 17", running 10.14.2, and rebooted. Transparency works well, I switched off "reduce transparency" in system settings. I'm still a fan of light mode...

create manually from Terminal before Install Mojave

diskutil appleRAID create stripe Storage JHFS+ disk0 disk1
diskutil umountDisk disk2
gpt create disk2
gpt add -t hfs disk2

Enter DiskUtility from Format to APFS

after install Mojave and Post-Install Patch

boot single mode (cmd+s)

mv /usr/standalone/bootcaches.plist /usr/standalone/bootcaches.bak

reboot

nice!

Awesome thanks! I tried to do this a few months back on my MacBook Pro 2011, but it failed to make a bootable drive. I'll have to try again.

How is the OS update process on the RAID? Do you have to install from booting into the patch tool, or can you just use the system's update mechanism?

I think you will not be successful since MBP5.2 is too old. The MiniDisplayPort is v1 and won't work for (e)GPU. Although in your case it might be also another problem, besides the slow port connection. I have seen ppl using (e)GPU on the premium Mac Pros only.
