I have been using Mojave 10.14.4 on my MacBook Pro 8,2 (Late 2011) for more than two months. Everything was ok except two issues: screen brightness not working and not able to exit from sleep mode (screen kept black). Today I installed the new Legacy Video Card Patch (v6) and these issues were gone!

Then I updated to Mojave 10.14.5 and the problems appeared again, but after reinstalling all the patches and restart the computer, the brightness controls and sleep mode worked again! So I'm not sure if the issues were solved with the Legacy Video Card Patch v6 or maybe with the previous version also would have worked if I had reinstalled the previous version of the patch.

The good news is that now I have the last version of Mojave with screen brightness controls and sleep mode working. Great! It would be perfect I in the future I could be able to use my dedicated GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6750M). Now it is deactivated because it is not compatible with the Mojave Patcher.

hey,
I don't have enough bandwidth to create a post-setup flash drive, so

Can I update to 10.14.5 via OTA then, use this?

-------------------
hold Command + S at startup), then at the prompt, run the following:

/sbin/mount -uw /

rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelHD3000*.*

rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelHDGraphics*.*

rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/GeForceTesla*.*

exit

I used it to patch 10.14.4, so can I use it again and use system patch updater after?

Can anyone help me regarding this please?,

AlexyFoxy,

I believe that after the 10.14.5 update you don't need these commands in a single user mode, but you still need some Mojave patcher to apply the basic patches(with force cache rebuild) to get you to the desktop.

In my particular case(MacBook5,1) all I needed to get to the Desktop is to apply(boot.plist, platform compatibility check, SIPmanager), the rest I was able to do after. But these might be different from model to model.

Thank you for your reply, I just don't have enough bandwidth to create post install drive, so... if I updated via OTA, system gonna stuck until I do the post install patches, so I used the previous method to disable acceleration and get into desktop then lunch patch updater and reapply all patches.

so I can do this again or what should I do?

If I don't get wrong, I've tested that, and seems that from .5 beta 4 the trick to delete the GLDriver doesn't work more, I mean you need .3 OpenGL and GPUSupport frameworks together with .3 or .4 CoreDisplay to land in desktop after an update.

So you could take a copy of them in some custom folder, and then replace them from single user mode once the upgraded is complete, the OTA upgrade size is around 2 GB, so relatively small to download.

My answer is no, you always need to apply the basic patches, as an update breaks the patches and the system knows that you are trying to boot the unsupported system.
The only solution that might be possible is that you would apply the basic patches(boot.plist, platform compatibility check, SIPmanager) manually in a single user mode. But I am not experienced enough to prepare a script for you that can accomplish this.

I was able to land in a Desktop without applying any of those .3 frameworks. I actually learned it from one of your posts. The problem here is to apply the basic patches(boot.plist, platform compatibility check, SIPmanager) in a single user mode when you don't have the patcher USB available.

thank you for your replying and your concern;),
being novice , I guess I gonna try to create post install flash drive and hope it works.

Ah then ok, anyway it's not easy to make a script for single user mode, I've tried sometimes but did not worked properly, for quick basic patches I do this (booting from single user mode, of course):

nvram boot-args="-no_compat_check"
(as override for boot.plist)

rm -R /System/Library/UserEventPlugins/com.apple.telemetry.plugin
(as c2d platform fix)

for SIP instead can't be done from CMD+S, but you need to boot again to Recovery or any (at least El Capitan) USB Installer and type: csrutil disable

Yeah I'm a little baffled about this. How can this even happen? It's unreal. Maybe I have a virus somewhere in my system. There's also a weird problem that has persisted over several years and macOS versions and various iMacs where Finder will not show the correct total number of GB inside the user folder. The total number is way above the total sum of the content inside. I talked to Apple Support about it and they were mystified. But that is a whole other problem. But I'm beginning to feel the 'ghost in the machine' here.

The process is very simple. Download the Mojave Patcher app, go to the menu and download the Mojave Installer app, then start the process and pick the USB drive and you're done. Not too difficult. But it's so weird, this should not even be possible. I'm extremely confused about this. Just wanted to give dosdude1 a heads up.

Bigger problem though, I can't boot my 2009 iMac. NeXT step is making spiritual contact with Steve Jobs from beyond and take his advice.
I think @jackluke 's theory is the best: somehow you targeted the wrong disk while building your patcher stick.

I can do this, so if I updated I just do this and I will land into desktop? then reapply patches?

If I remember correctly jackluke was one of the first to discover that the 10.14.5 betas worked pretty much out of the box(albeit without acceleration). He will correct me if I missed something.

Please see jackluke's post just above for the commands that might help you to boot.

Thank for your reply, that's why I asked this:

"I can do this, so if I updated I just do this and I will land into desktop? then reapply patches?"

I believe it would be possible for my MacBook5,1, but please keep in mind that we all have different Macs and that is why it is hard to get the definitive answer. So you always should be ready for a surprise and have your backups and APFS local snapshots on standby.

@avz is right, OTA updates sometimes do unexpected surprises as for example enabling SIP and updating the com.apple.boot.plist , so in any case for safety you should retain a USB Installer from where you can surely set a nvram variable and csrutil disable, after these two you can enter single user mode and operate for manual patch.

And before update, create a folder from Finder naming it for example "framew" in your root disk, and copy there your current .3 OpenGL and CoreDisplay Frameworks and the GPUSupport privateframework, so just to have an extra copy of these important frameworks.

Short question: Updated using dosdudes patcher, worked fine. How to use the transparency patch? is it only available in the RMC patcher, or at dosdudes as well?

Will the two patchers exists separately or is there an effort to join them? by using a GUI for the RMC patcher?

Quick question: Can someone please check in the System Information app, on Software/Installations if there are some MRT and XProtect updates following the 10.14.5 update? I have one for Gatekeeper, but not for MRT and XProtect. I have had a bad issue with the last MRT update, MRT got corrupted, as some may remember.

Be aware once you upgrade the Apps Store App won't let you gain access to the older versions of OS's or your old apps like you could access before.

I had to do a clean install as when I updated the iSight patch I lost full acceleration wiped my HDD installed 10.14.3 with Mojave patcher 1.2.3 install the post install patches but did not setup my account then booted into Mojave patcher.1.3.1 installed 10.14.4 it booted a few times but setup my accounted downloaded 10.14.5 OTA reapplied the post install with Mojave patcher 1.3.1 on my mid 2009 iMac and the hybrid patches work as well thank you :)

mbp7,1 mid2010 running 10.14.4 on filevault-enabled apfs volume with dosdude1 patcher installed (1.3.0 at the time when i installed it, probably self-updated since then):

i have probably done something very wrong (at least did not understand the instruntions) and allowed macos to begin installing 10.14.5 - it ran until it needed to reboot and then never booted back, keeping on rebooting on my every attempt.

1) am i still able to repair it? and roll 10.14.5 over it? or time to grab my time machine drive?
2) what is a proper way to install an OS update with patcher-installed OS?
3) i heard i no longer have recovery partition - does it mean i need to boot from patcher usb stick?

thanks in advance.

Hi guys, any tip to installing 10.14.5 on a MacPro 3,1? I'm on a fresh install of 10.14.4 now and it would be my first update. Don't want to do any mistake.

Thank you

Dosdude1... can i just say thank you. 10.14.5 is a dream on my computer. I have a mbp6,1. 10.14.0, .1, and even .2 ran smooth... .3 and .4 were a nightmare. Moving the mouse was slow, safari was crippled. I started saying hmm i may have to buy a new mac come September.

But 10.14.5 and your updates have brought it back to running smooth like butter!

So thank you.

HI guys,

after I applied the Patch Updater, it was something about graphics patch, I stuck at the boot screen.
I have a Mac mini 3,1.

Does anybody know what I could do?

Thanks in advance
