I have reinstalled Mojave. Indeed, the mini-DP has started working. But now the audio does not work, although the patch is installed

Hello friend,
I appreciate the response. I have been using the app for over a week now.
I have the keyboard mapped to dim with option+1 and brighten with option+2

Would like to take it to the next level and use the actual F1 and F2 keys if possible.

UPDATE as of March 5, 2021:
After looking around I found a way to use the F1 and F2 keys combined with this brightness-slider.app

For now I think its time for me to put this subject to rest. Hopefully this can help the next Padawan

Hello Good People,
I was able to successfully get Catalina OS installed on another partition. Interestingly how all the keyboard function keys seem to work.

After doing more reading I came across this post. If I install the BlueSky patch along with re-enabling GPU would I get working F1 and F2 screen dimming keys?

If so how would I undo step #5 from above - DO NOT used "MacBook Pro dGPU disabler"
From dosdude1’s site he recommended disabling the GPU for better user experience so that is what I did.

My system is a MacBookPro8,3

But Mojave patcher doesn't list the 2007 MP as supported? Extractor does, so I'd like to try that instead of turning my focus to Mojave Patcher.

So has anyone successfully used Extractor lately? Would anyone know why early on in the process, it tells me

I had found that directory in my browser too, but the web installer takes more steps than just running the Extractor.pkg package. Do you know what to do after running Extractor.pkg?

I have also messaged Isiah Johnson about this 4 days ago btw. As you get a garbled link too (and I strongly suspect it's just that comma included at the end of the url, see screenshot), it seems like something he might want to have a brief look at.

I know nothing about this product, but I noticed that the URL is invalid (a single '%' can't appear alone like that). Try https://dl.osxhackers.net/OSXH/Resources/macOS%20Extractor.pkg instead.

I will check the web installer and see what's going on. Since macOS Extractor is no longer in development, I strongly recommend using RMC's Patcher

Thanks, that would be great.

I've used RMC's Patcher already on another old Mac, but it doesn't support the 2007 MacPros that Extractor does list as supported. It's that capability that I'm after right now. So I think I need specifically Extractor for that.

Hi macrumors community,

following this thread now for a long time and very happy to teleport my 2009 MacBookPro5,2 into the present using Mojave.

Unfortunatly I am struggeling for some weeks/months now with randomly reboots or system freezes during sleep/wake which can be solved only by hard shut-of (long pressed power button). It seems to be linked to GPU somehow (Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily). Sometimes I also had a reboot (famous boot sound "biiiiiing") with closed laptop lid. I attached system info and console log file from latest reboot.

Anyone else had this before, any idea or hint how to fix this issue?

My MBP5,1 does this after every security update and I've documented it in this thread. I've never really got to the bottom of it but I can always (eventually) fix it. I normally try 3 things.
1. Reset NVRAM - I let it do 5 bongs (less than that never seemed to work but that may have been a red herring)
2. Switch between better performance and better battery life in the Energy Saver pref pane (and leave it on better battery life because otherwise my fans go nuts). This involves about 3 or 4 reboots (it says to log out for the change to take effect, but only reboot actually does it).
3. sudo pmset -a darkwakes 0 (in the Terminal)

Since I don't know which of these works, I do them all. Maybe it always did require them all which is why it confused me for so long. You can now guarantee that after the next security update, these fixes won't work!

I installed 10.14.3(18D42) on one of my original HDD's formatted as HFS+ and have to say that it is perfect: minimalistic patching required(as OpenGL fallback support is still present and is very solid), no aggressive RAM caching of later versions, HFS+ ensures that no unwanted updates will ever happen while critical updates like XProtect and MRT are still happening. App Store seems to be working well. I believe that if Apple were to support Mojave on a Late 2008 MacBook, this is where they would stop.

The point of running Mojave, at least for me, is to be covered by security updates, EOL now on High Sierra - which I can run supported on both my machines.

Without security updates, aren't you defeating one of the reasons for running Mojave via Patcher, and leaving yourself vulnerable?

If you want to be serious about security updates, you should run a supported machine as you also need firmware updates. Intel also does not provide patches for older processors.
As someone who stayed on Leopard until El Capitan reached the EOL, I can say that the security risks are very minimal. Practically speaking having a dark mode and best optimization for your hardware is more important than perceived security.

X-Protect and MRT updates are what is important. SilentKnight takes care of that, nicely. Unless storing nuclear codes on an unsupported Mac it shouldn't be a problem at 10.14.3. ?

You are correct that "%20" encodes a space. However, https://dl.osxhackers.net/OSXH/Resources/macOS%20Extractor.pkg is a perfectly valid URL, spaces are allowed (although sometimes troublesome, like this one). The problem is that on MacRumors, one must use the [icode] tag (or similar) to encode it; when making it a clickable inline link, MacRumors always decodes the space but doesn't re-encode it, making the link invalid (hence my "mangling" comment).

Hi, i use latest Mojave (inkl. sec updates) on my MacbookPro6,3 (Mid 2009, 8GB RAM). Could i try to downgrade by the OS X Mojave COMBO 10.14.3 Update for perhaps little better performance (Sure, i will make an CCC Clone of HD before). I have no probs with latest Updates only want to know if downgrade would have some benefit ("no aggressive RAM caching").

I was considering doing it myself but decided against it as I was able to find a full 10.14.3 installer online. Keep in mind that 2 versions exist: 18D42 and 18D109. I use the 18D42. You will have to create a new Mojave patcher 1.2.3.

Updated this Aluminum MB5,1 with SilentKnight to the current Security Update 2021-002, MRT, X-Protect and EVERYTHING works perfectly after v.1.3.7 patches, re-applied. These are great old MacBooks.

On my 2010, the second 10.4.3 update had that RAM issue where it would get gobbled up faster and performance was more sluggish. For older machines, staying on the first 10.14.3 and earlier was the way to go.
