BREAKING NEWS:

Catalina beta5 (build 19A526h) Photos.app doesn't crash more on non-metal, apple have fixed it at least for booting in safe mode from a non-metal Mac!

Haven't tested yet the @ASentientBot non-metal fixes, but I am confident Photos.app won't crash more!

Apple understood that people may need to use Photos.app from a safe booting.

Great news! Still dl´ing here to test it on MB Air 4,1 with non-metal accel.

Photos.app will work at 99%!

Apple have fixed it I bet for allow using it in safe mode, where Metal is totally absent even from a Metal machine.

Can't post a screenshot since haven't applied yet any Wifi/Sound patches, only removed telemetry plugin to boot the Core2duo MacBook.

I have posted on Insanelymac forums about the issue I had, that the Catalina installer does not see the internal hard-drives on my Hackintosh, but Mojave does not have this problem. Slice, the main developer of Clover bootloader, said that, most likely, there is at least one kext that was removed from Mojave to Catalina. I wonder what kext may be removed that allowed, until Mojave, for my internal hard drives (the main, SATA one and the secondary one, on ATA), on an Asus motherboard to be visible to macOS and on Catalina to be absent. This is about the build-in kexts from Apple. Or perhaps a kext was changed?
When the next public beta shall be available, I shall test it again.
Does anybody who worked in patching discovered something about this?

Just released a new version of Catalina Patcher (v1.0.3), which now includes support for Catalina Developer Preview 5. Also, PHOTOS now WORKS under Catalina with non-Metal GPUs!!

FYI, the Trackpad system preference panel, which failed to launch in the previous seed on a MacPro 3,1 with BCM94360CD, now works fine in this seed. Nice.

Thanks @dosdude1! Just about to download this new version. By any chance, do you already have the "software update" patch implemented? No big deal if not. I have no issues on re-installing to update.

Oops. Just saw your post regarding you still have to implement software update patch. Sorry.

Thanks dosdude1 and all

I made a bootable SDXC using patcher 1.0.3 and Beta 5 from Beta 4.
Booted off the SDXC and did the restore overtop of the Beta 4.

All files etc were kept and all seems well.

Maps.app crashed when double click zooming in.
Photos.app launches and seems to work, though I have Zero photos in it.

The latest dosdude1 patcher and Catb5 booted fine from a clean install on MacPro 3,1 with GTX60 GPU.
Thank you Colin.
This beta5 is still FAR from a stable release and has a host of big and large bugs. IMO, don't be tempted to use it as your working OS—wait at least another month until the weekly betas.

One user interface suggestion for Catalina Patcher. It is very easy to forget to toggle the Disable APFS Boot menu option in the application when creating a patched installer. Placing that option in the actual setup screens might be helpful in making sure folks with the APFS ROM patch remember to toggle that off.

I have been working my way through all the applications that I use regularly and, ironically, Firefox is the problematic one (both on the MacPro 5,1 and a fully supported 2015 MacBook Pro).
Same here, no luck with Firefox 68.
Interestingly, also the legacy build by @parrotgeek1 crashes with the same behavior. Perhaps he might have a clue (or two) ;-)

Rastafabi's Catalina loader

READ THIS ENTIRE POST AND THE INCLUDED README FIRST!

It took me a while, but finally I managed to create a "Catalina loader", which enables you to install macOS 10.15 Catalina on unsupported Macs with compatible hardware. It's meant for Mac Pro 4,1 & 5,1 and iMac 2010/2011 systems, which have a Metal compatible GPU. A upgraded WiFi/Bluetooth card might be necessary to have OOB support. I have not yet looked into audio, though on my Mac Pro 4,1 it works OOB. The download includes an installation guide with additional details.
It is not meant for systems without a Metal GPU or with Core2 Duo (based) CPUs.

The loader is based on rEFInd and OpenCore, which spoofs the Mac to be a compatible model.

Some might be reminded of my old Mavericks download enabler. ;)

Dual CPU Mac Pros also require to be running non x55xx CPUs to omit audio stuttering. Thanks @tsialex

Questions:

The Catalina Loader is confirmed to work with the first macOS Catalina developer beta installer (DP1).
No other installers have been tested and thus are not supported at the moment as those can potentially damage your hardware.

Yes. If your GPU is not metal compatible it will install and boot. However it’s usually not worth it.

Just about any should work. Find an old 512mb drive and you are good to go. Of course larger drives will work, too. BTW: You may also use SD-Cards, if your Mac can boot from those.

You can't. Just install it manually afterwards. There is now way to add anything, as this basically just enables you to run the legit unmodified Catalina installer.

@Starplayr apparently wrote a little script for the Mac Pro 3,1. It should work for other Macs, too.

It seems to install and boot on 2010 & 2011 MacBooks. However you will not have any graphics acceleration natively.

I am very sorry. However there is nothing I can do. You have been warned (README) and proceeded at your own risk.

————————————

Updates:
  1. Fixed large file size (60mb), due to an oversight one may part.
  2. Removed experimental flag causing issues.

Hello, i don't understand the interest of this loader over the patcher tool in the case of a MacPro5,1. What is the difference between this loader and the patcher tool please ?

Thanks !
