Has anyone else had an issue with "Install to This Machine" Installation method for the Catalina patcher? Every time I attempt it, looks like it's going to work then when the machine restarts instead of installing, it quickly reboots as usual to my log in screen and nothing has changed. I would do the USB install (like my previous installs) but my GT120 broke so I don't have a boot screen and can't choose the usb as a boot startup option in settings. Any ideas/suggestions?

You're using version 1.0.4 of the patcher? If so, make sure SIP is disabled on your system, as it must be in order for the in-place installation feature to work. Also, what machine is this?

I have a 4.1/5.1 and it's v1.0.4 and here's what I got from terminal so I guess this means SIP is disabled right?

Darth-Mac-Pro:~ Sith$ csrutil status

System Integrity Protection status: unknown (Custom Configuration).

Configuration:

Apple Internal: disabled

Kext Signing: disabled

Filesystem Protections: disabled

Debugging Restrictions: disabled

DTrace Restrictions: disabled

NVRAM Protections: disabled

BaseSystem Verification: disabled

This is an unsupported configuration, likely to break in the future and leave your machine in an unknown state.

I have a question since my Macbook Pro Early 2011 is my daily driver, will the animations get a little smoother soon? In a later version of patches?
They look laggy.
Still incredible you can make this work though

DP5 Catalina can not be ready. After level 2 of the installation, where the patches are then installed
and then reboot, it boots half way to the loading bar and stops.
I boot with -v are many ACPI Error error messages to see.

Even without dosdude1 patcher (test with 1.0.3 and 1.0.4), if I use the same kexte as the DP4 install, it is the same.
I then loaded a second time the full file of the DP5 (6.81 GB), but then the same.

Has something serious been changed from DP4 to DP5? My DP4 runs immaculately
without any problems and also then with dosdude1 Patcher 1.0.2 installed.

Does anyone have any tips for me, My Hack Book runs as MBP 5.2 see signature.

Catalina Dev Beta5 Clean Install on an Unsupported MacbookPro5,3.

Did the appropriate steps:
  • Downloaded @dosdude1's Catalina Patcher 1.0.4
  • Booted into Patcher | Ran Disk Utility and erased and formatted an internal SSD with APFS format.
  • Ran reinstall MacOS and selected this single partition APFS formatted SSD.
  • Install with progress on gray screen (estimated time 14 minutes...calculating time remaining less than a minute stuck for about an hour).
  • Rebooted to black screen with progress (estimated time 10 minutes, calculating time remaining then got stuck for another hour or more).
  • Pressed power button and rebooted to gray screen. Scale went full (like 99%) and got stuck.
Didn't even get a chance to finish install, setup the OS from scratch, run Post Install for the patches.

Any options I could try installing for this macbookpro5,3 (which requires APFS Rom Patch --- as I mentioned above didn't get to ran the post install, one of which is the APFS Patch)?

P.S. I've successfully installed Catalina on another unsupported MacBookAir4,2 (which did not require APFS Rom Patch).

I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I have the same issue on cMP5.1. Previously the USB installs worked. I have never enabled SIP. I try over existing Catalina DP3

[/ QUOTE]

no trim activatet !

A quick question, is your TRIM enabled natively? I used a patch in Clover but it seems to no longer work in Catalina.

Are you remounting the root filesystem as rw before you attempt to run 'sudo trimforce'? That is necessary under Catalina because of the read-only root filesystem.

sudo mount -uw /
sudo trimforce enable

BlueSky

I just released a new tool for macOS 10.14 Mojave and macOS 10.15 Catalina.

Here are the release notes from GitHub: "BlueSky is a command-line patch tool for the SkyLight and HIToolbox frameworks. This tool is intended for non-Metal graphics cards running unsupported versions of macOS 10.14 Mojave and 10.15 Catalina. This tool fixes transparency issues by swapping UI materials in the SkyLight framework and setting the menubar and context menus to opaque in the HIToolbox framework. The HIToolbox framework patch is only supported on macOS 10.14 Mojave. The download size for the zip is around 100MB. If you download only the script then BlueSky will automatically download the full zip file that includes all the patched binaries. The original binaries are also included in the zip file and are used for the patch removing options. Backups are also made before and after patching in /Users/Shared. These backups can be restored manually but should only be used as a last resort. Please contact RMC if you need help in recovering a damaged system."

I basically have the same year and model --- albeit the 15" model (MBP5,3) and been having issues on installing Catalina Dev Beta5 on it. Would not even get to finish initial installment and finish the setup (including post install patches).

My question for you is on your mention of "apfs ROM patch", is that the "hardware" patch as opposed to the "software" one included on the post install patches? I'm afraid to the "hardware" one as it might "permanently brick" my MBP5,3.

Also question for anyone that has similar models that require APFS Rom patching, have you successfully done the "hardware" one without "bricking" your system?

Thanks.
