I bought a EVGA GTX680 2GB on Ebay and use the flashing method from this video.

with the change that I only had the GTX680 installed (with all the drives pulled so that the CD for flashing would boot without having the boot screen).
I used this method and it worked flawlessly

MBP5,2 17" 2.8GHz mid 2009, 8GB, APFS ROM patch applied, Samsung SSD 860/840 EVO with APFS.

Using 10.14.6 Supplemental on the internal SSD as my standard system. Patcher 1.3.3 used to download it and to produce a USB installer. Very stable like 10.14.5 was.

Also using experimentally 10.15.0 DP5 on an external (USB) SSD. Patcher 1.0.6 used to download it. Chose option "Disable APFS Booter" then did "Install to This Machine" which already had an earlier Catalina on it, without problems... And happily using Photos! It seems Catalina provides all I need and the MBP5,2 can serve me well in its 11th year.

Thanks to @dosdude1 and everyone for the Catalina, Mojave (and predecessors) support!

One thing I had observed after installing DP4: I got frequent sleep/wake failures after a while in Catalina as well as after booting back to Mojave (one of several equal reports attached). That stopped after resetting SMC and NVRAM. Had first suspected a hardware problem related to very hot weather conditions... anyway all fine now, including in Catalina. Will diagnose more carefully should it happen again. @Larsvonhier and @albertdrake had reported sleep/wake failures in Mojave a while ago under different circumstances.

BTW I keep user data on the Catalina disk up-to-date with CCC to the Data part of the disk, while running Mojave. I do that for most user data except Photos library to avoid lengthy re-formatting, except Mail, and except Applications.

During the install did it reboot with 4 mins remaining on the install? That happen to me on my Mac Pro 2008 and I thought it was done and booted back into the USB installer to apply the patches and it said no Mac OS on the hard drive. I installed it again and this time I just let it reboot and it came back to finish the install.

I just replace the binaries The Catalina Auto mount goes in your /Library/LaunchDaemons folder then reboot Then the HIToolbox goes in /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Version/A folder. The Skylight patch goes in /System/Library/Private.Frameworks/SkyLight.framework/Versions/A folder you have to authenticate and click replace then reboot sorry I posted the wrong one ignore the dark light one
It worked mostly! the finder sidebar and spotlight are still greyish!!not that bad!Any CAT wallpapers out there?
Thank You!!!!Well i redownload the bluesky from GitHub and reapplied the patches!Perfect!!No more greyish sidebars!!Thanks Tim and Julian!!!

I also have an iMac 8,1 and had no wifi problems after upgrade. Did you install "Broadcom BCM4321 WiFi Support Patch" from the Patch Updater after the install? Maybe try to reinstall it, go into Patch Updater (should be in your Utilities folder), hit "view Installed Updates", and right-click on the Broadcom patch and hit re-install. be sure to force cache rebuild and reboot.

WiFi Issues on Catalina Dev Beta 5

I just installed Catalina Dev Beta 5 on an Unsupported MacBookPro5,3.

Screen Shot 2019-08-12 at 12.57.05 AM.png

My current issue is that on my System Preferences | Network, my wifi option does not show, so I can't select it.

Screen Shot 2019-08-12 at 1.03.43 AM.png

Used @dosdude1's macOS Catalina Patcher 1.0.6 to install and patch.

Appreciate any help and/or response.

I have a 4.1/5.1 and it's v1.0.4 and here's what I got from terminal so I guess this means SIP is disabled right?

Darth-Mac-Pro:~ Sith$ csrutil status

System Integrity Protection status: unknown (Custom Configuration).

Configuration:

Apple Internal: disabled

Kext Signing: disabled

Filesystem Protections: disabled

Debugging Restrictions: disabled

DTrace Restrictions: disabled

NVRAM Protections: disabled

BaseSystem Verification: disabled

This is an unsupported configuration, likely to break in the future and leave your machine in an unknown state.

Darth-Mac-Pro:~ Sith$

Update: Used latest version 1.0.6 today and was able to in-place install. Issue was fixed in 1.0.5 according to change log. Thanks

I sure did apply the "Legacy WiFi patch".

These are the patches I applied to on this MacBookPro5,3.

Screen Shot 2019-08-12 at 7.53.48 AM.png

Not showing but I also applied the "APFS Patch" which I believe is required to boot.
Also ran the "force Cache Rebuild" before rebooting.

Thank You @dosdude1 for your apps/tools and overall help.

Same here. cMP 5.1 (2012).I tried to patch again and again. No avail, but I found a very simple and cheap solution. I bought for little money a wifi extender and connected the MP via LAN to the extender. No problems anymore. Of course this is not a solution for macbooks / iPads but for desktop Macs.

Greetings

Addendum: I just installed the latest patch/ cat beta, and suddenly wifi works again. Funny.

I seem to be having an issue with Catalina on the MBA listed under my signature. I’ve installed the most recent set of transparency fixes which work great, but for some reason I now have an issue where any windows opened on an external display will only open in the top 3rd or so of the screen and they won’t detach from the menu bar. I have no idea what’s happening. Is this just a bug that’s a result of the various “fixes”?

That sounds like it's probably my fault. I'll try to borrow a second monitor to play around with it at some point.

"Full acceleration for older Nvidia and Intel cards has been achieved on Catalina beta 1 to 3."

Does that mean no artefacts on HD3000 unlike Mojave?
