Apple released today the fifth public beta version of its upcoming iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and tvOS 13 operating systems to public beta testers, along with beta 5 of macOS 10.15 Catalina.

BlueSky

I just released a new tool for macOS 10.14 Mojave and macOS 10.15 Catalina.

Here are the release notes from GitHub: "BlueSky is a command-line patch tool for the SkyLight and HIToolbox frameworks. This tool is intended for non-Metal graphics cards running unsupported versions of macOS 10.14 Mojave and 10.15 Catalina. This tool fixes transparency issues by swapping UI materials in the SkyLight framework and setting the menubar and context menus to opaque in the HIToolbox framework. The HIToolbox framework patch is only supported on macOS 10.14 Mojave. The download size for the zip is around 100MB. If you download only the script then BlueSky will automatically download the full zip file that includes all the patched binaries. The original binaries are also included in the zip file and are used for the patch removing options. Backups are also made before and after patching in /Users/Shared. These backups can be restored manually but should only be used as a last resort. Please contact RMC if you need help in recovering a damaged system."

Do we use the HIToolbox from macOS Mojave 10.14.5

Which would mean that a public beta of macOS 10.15 was made prior to the developer beta being released. Don't think so.

They edited the articled as it did say the macOS Catalina Dev beta 6 was released but they didn't edit that Public Beta % has been released so I think they along with me jumped the gun

I basically have the same year and model --- albeit the 15" model (MBP5,3) and been having issues on installing Catalina Dev Beta5 on it. Would not even get to finish initial installment and finish the setup (including post install patches).

My question for you is on your mention of "apfs ROM patch", is that the "hardware" patch as opposed to the "software" one included on the post install patches? I'm afraid to the "hardware" one as it might "permanently brick" my MBP5,3.

Also question for anyone that has similar models that require APFS Rom patching, have you successfully done the "hardware" one without "bricking" your system?

Thanks.

I know is a gamble! But I bit the bullet and went for it. Is the apfs ROM patched by DOSDUDE1.
It took 20 minutes,(the sliders in the energy section put on max)and chose mojave as start up disk! No problems since..

Using the installer over and over again the disc utility doesn't erase everything from previous betas..there is a security options tab on the lower left of disc utility..it erase it in 7 stages..takes lots of time but erases it completely.Happened to me couple of times.
Then the install went as it should be!

Has anyone else had an issue with "Install to This Machine" Installation method for the Catalina patcher? Every time I attempt it, looks like it's going to work then when the machine restarts instead of installing, it quickly reboots as usual to my log in screen and nothing has changed. I would do the USB install (like my previous installs) but my GT120 broke so I don't have a boot screen and can't choose the usb as a boot startup option in settings. Any ideas/suggestions?
Ya...Im having the same problem?

I'm thinking about getting a flashed GTX680 to replace my GTX770 and GT 640 to get the boot screen on my larger screen. My 4k monitor (actually a 43" TCL Series 5 TV) only has HDMI inputs.

Does anyone know if the boot screen works on a 4K HMDI display with a flashed GTX680?

I have a GTX680 in my Mac Pro 3,1 that I flashed to have the native boot screen support. I tested it with my 65 IN 4K TV and it works great, including the boot screen.

As far as i can remember gtx680 only gives 4k efi screen on 30hz.
Not that this does matter a lot..
Correct me if i’m wrong..

I have not testes it on 4k monitors, since I only use 23” hd cinema display’s running 1920x1200 ;)

My GTX 770 is only 30hz on HDMI when it boots into Catalina so I’m already used to it.

I just replace the binaries The Catalina Auto mount goes in your /Library/LaunchDaemons folder then reboot Then the HIToolbox goes in /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Version/A folder. The Skylight patch goes in /System/Library/Private.Frameworks/SkyLight.framework/Versions/A folder you have to authenticate and click replace then reboot sorry I posted the wrong one ignore the dark light one

You should never have to do that, that feature is only to prevent data from being unerased, and only on old mechanical hard drives. It does not delete it any better than a normal erase and partition.

What is the easiest way to get full read/write on all the file system. It won't let me replace anything in frameworks or private frameworks. thanks for any help you can give me.

My GTX 770 is only 30hz on HDMI when it boots into Catalina so I’m already used to it.

I bought a EVGA GTX680 2GB on Ebay and use the flashing method from this video.

with the change that I only had the GTX680 installed (with all the drives pulled so that the CD for flashing would boot without having the boot screen).

Exactly. That is horrible for non mechanical hard drives.

Just released a new update to Catalina Patcher, which now includes a new System Preferences item that allows you to change boot volumes on machines without native APFS BootROM support. This should be helpful for those who have multiple Catalina installs on a single drive.
