It doesn’t crash immediately, only after some time and panning/zooming around. Labeling (cities, roads,...) is only working on the initial view, but broken after panning/zooming.
Makes sense, that's when it would need VectorKit to redraw maps and pins.

Did you upgrade from HS? There is the automatic firmware to APFS that must be done from there first, then you can use Mojave and Catalina in APFS which is required I believe in 10.15 for the new data volume.
I am on Mojave. I did a clean install of Mojave using APFS, and that is what it told me when I tried to click on the data drive to upgrade. I read a few other things, so I have a couple things I’m going to try when I get off work.
Catalina running on a 2007 iMac. It will happen

I am on a MacBook Pro 7,1 with a fusion drive. Can I currently upgrade to the beta of Catalina? If so is there a current patcher functioning? Also do I need to convert to apfs and can I convert to apfs with a fusion drive?

Unfortunutly I'm not as skilled as the other people here. I am able to get the installer to boot on my Macbook 7,1 and have seen people mention the telemery plugin and can't find that in the install USB files. So I'm stuck at the picking the drive screen with "This version of macOS cannot be installed on this computer". Any help with this?

You should be able to update, all you can do is try. I don’t think there is a current patcher available yet. Catalina has only been out since Monday. And you should be able to convert the fusion drive to APFS using ‘Convert to APFS’ in disk utility

Have you tried using the
sudo nvram boot-args="-no_compat_check"

That's how I've booted into the installer, sorry I should have mentioned that.
you currently on High Sierra or Mojave. I got that message when I was using HS. Updating to Mojave fixes that issue. I ran into other right now but I no longer get that error. Mare you doing a fresh install or a update?

It's got Mojave on the drive right now, am I just not able to upgrade it? if so I can reformat the drive becasue I have it backed up.

That I am not sure about. I just started trying to install Catalina last night. I believe that there are people in this thread that were able to update instead of a clean install. I’ll have to read back through the first pages of this thread again

I'll give a reformat a go becasue that might be a useful thing to look into for the final patcher

Ok so how would I go about upgrading do I use the existing Mojave patcher ? And how do I install it do I just install it normally as a normal update or do I have to somehow do it like loading on a flash drive but if so how because Mojave patcher won’t let me use the Catalina install file. Also the convert to Apfs is blurred out idk if I need to do it before booting when I boot to the flash drive? Sorry for so many questions lol.

Have Catalina running on my Mac Pro 3,1 natively.

With metal. Just missing WiFi.

Have Bluetooth. 3 screens.

Booted with cmd x and v.

Trying without x and v options. Crawling at boot. With x and v boot was instant.

Looks like safe mode still loads extensions?

Screen is gorgeous.

No WiFi yet.

Gonna see if it boots normal.well it did. No WiFi. Will track that down from mojave.
I have a DP Link Wifi card . it uses Apple chips . It never needed drivers. It worked fine until Mojave. I had to add an extension that loads the driver . Seems like you are the first to make real progress here. I forgot the nvram fix .I will have to research that . I can use my son's IMAC for an install on remote drive and be ready to go. Congrats ...

How did you install it if you wouldn't mind listing the steps you took?

I haven't had issue with a 680 on Catalina yet. No artifacts. Acceleration is good. Galaxy card, flashed.

I don't have WiFi or Sound yet. tried Mojave drivers from Dosdude but I may need to install the Extensions elsewhere. My patched disk wasn't working either, so tried the patcher app from Mojave. I may forgo patching and get a fully operational system with $7 Ethernet cable and a $10 USB Sound card for now. Dirt cheap workarounds. And I will try cloning my system again and then try patching it manually.

Anyone else have Mac Pro 3,1 with Audio and WiFi working?

Not a bad idea! That would fill in gaps and people can layout what works and what doesn't. After running some tests, I plan on getting in touch with Anka's developer on possibly supporting older Macs that are running Mojave hosts. And having an area to talk about VM findings would be great. Foxlet and others could really help on that track.
Easiest fix for audio has always been a usb device

That was Starplayer that did install .. he put in a drive that had install from a approved machine and added nvram fix.. I don't remember that fix now as i haven't used it for three years or so. But i seem to remember it as a boot option .. I think the nvram fix is available in DosDue1 early materials ... also I remember add ing the board id in the old days

Telemetry only needs to be removed if you have a Core2Duo processor or one Xeon type that runs on a Mac Pro 3,1 2008. If you have an i3, i5, i7 or Mac Pro 2010 or newer Telemetry is fine. It is a user plugin.

Hey could you tell me the steps you did to get Catalina on a usb and for it to boot on your MacBook 7,1 I have the same laptop and would also like to know please

I'm Running a Core 2 Duo P8600 Macbook so does that mean I'm not required to do it?
I also may have figured out the issue by looking at the installer logs, it may be due to my installer being HFS+ instead of APFS

Edit: Wouldn't let me make an installer Using an APFS volume

I can't even get the Catalina installer to download, I get an error "Could not locate the correct entry in the CatalogURL. Cannot continue" Any ideas? Do you have to be in the developer program just to download the installer?

EDIT - Worked on another machine. I tried to download on a MacBook Air Mid 2012 and it gave this error. No Error on a Mid 2013 MBA.

No all Penryn C2D’s require you to remove telemetry to boot.

Am I able to remove it from the installer or is this why people have been using supported machines to clone installs? (I don't own supported machine)

Edit: I'd like to just say that I am actually useful once I am in the OS, I'm just not good at getting things to boot on supported machines.

If you are going to convert to APFS you would need to boot into recovery mode and then unmount the drive you are converting

I may have missed it, but how was your install experience on 3,1 + GTX680? I have an old one languishing but ready to be woken up...
The route I chose:
Tried patching OSInstall.mpkg/Distro...
and wanted to install via 10.15 app but could not get past 10.15 cannot be installed on this Mac message that runs before OSInstall.

So I put my SSD hardware RAId acts like a big HD via FireWire to thunderbolt on my work 2016 MacBook Pro and installed Catalina on it.

Put SSD back in my Mac Pro 3,1.

Booted Mojave and removed Telemetry.

sudo NVRAM was preset to skip comp. check. Tried setting it in the data file but no love there yet. Held down cmd X and V keys at boot. Booted very fast.
Metal worked. 4k works. No artifacts or panics.

Bluetooth, USB, Ethernet.

no sound or WiFi.

Gonna use workarounds til I find the right drivers.

Restarted without X and V. Boot slower.

Tried sound and WiFi patch from mojave but I had trouble making a new disk from mojave after downloading 10.15. Disk made 10.15 installer and did other weird stuff like leaving out dmg’s with mojave app and would not create a whole disk. It was late. 1 am. So gonna punt and go back to non patched system and use Ethernet and USB sound card til I work out the kinks.

My goal is to start using SwiftUI like today. :)
