For those who are having issues with the force rebuild with the patcher just reinstall Catalina Dev Beta 6 don't apply the post instal, patches just let it boot normally it works

I've updated my MBP 4.1 to Catalina Beta 6, it seems quite stable and I can confirm that no further patches are needed.
The only issue is linked to my upgraded Wi-Fi Card (BCM 4322) that isn't working, but if the BCM4321 works under Catalina, this problem can be easily solved.

P. S.

I discovered that, sometimes, when the machine is rebooted, there are graphic glitches. Nevertheless the machine is working without other issues than the one of Wi-Fi card.

Acceleration fixed on DP6!

Method:
After replacing OpenGL.framework from 10.14.3 (as usual), re-replace the following file inside it from DP6.
Code:
/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libCoreFSCache.dylib

This fixes a "symbol not found" error in the Metal framework, allowing the system to boot to the desktop.

SkyLight/CoreDisplay wrappers remain unchanged.

Notes:
I would also like to take this chance to thank @jackluke for two discoveries that haven't been properly credited.
1. Thinning retro frameworks prevents APFS-related spam in verbose mode.
2. The SystemVersion.plist hack to allow installing over a "newer" macOS version.
Neither are directly related to acceleration, but I use both and never properly thanked you.

Secondly, I got kicked to the login screen once, shortly after booting, but no crash report was produced and it hasn't happened again. This could be a sign of an intermittent loginwindow or WindowServer crash though, so be warned.

Please report test results! Goodnight :)

Edit:
Found something weird: toggling Invert Colors causes the screen to blank out until moving the mouse. Can someone test if this happens on a supported machine? If not, I'll need to update the CoreDisplay wrapper most likely. Edit 2: So does changing the display resolution.

Edit 3: Siri, Find My, and possibly more apps are currently not working with this patch. Do not update. I'll look into a fix. Edit 4: My apologies, false alarm. I accidentally opened said apps from my DP3 partition. They are working fine, assuming you click on the right thing

Haven't followed some progresses here, and not yet downloaded the beta 6, but once again you done an amazing work, and you had a great intuition in re-replacing the stock Catalina "libCoreFSCache.dylib" inside the legacy Mojave OpenGL framework.

Thanks for the thank, but the most important discoveries here are those related to kp fixes and acceleration so yours!

Your "Startup Disk" label is funny, now I guess we are at midway of Catalina development, let's hold on till the final release!

What's now a rigth way to update Catalina (dev5 on mbp5,2, apfs rom installed) to latest version? Flash full image to usb with patcher and reinstall over?

I downloaded the latest patcher 1.07 and used this to download a copy of Catalina. Run the patcher but my version of Catlaina is 19A526h. Does the patcher download the public beta or dev beta?

Hi Colin,
There might be a problem with the patcher for MacPro 3,1 (with APFS boot rom and GTX680 and upgraded WiFi/BT chip) ). After running the install and then the post-install (w/ forced cache rebuild) I am getting a flashing No Entry sign and then the MP3,1 shuts down. Any other MP3,1 owner seeing this?

I haven't tried DP6 yet but you shouldn't need to manually patch unless dosdude1 regressed his previous changes. The current patched usb installers should automatically apply the patches post installation with a forced cache rebuild. You might check if your nvram has...

boot-args="-no_compat_check"

set. I recall that dosdude1 was supposed to eliminate that being set but on my MacPro 3,1 with DP5 and 1.0.6 it was still being set on my machine during installation.

On MBP5,2 just installed 10.15.0 DP6 (version 15.0.25, build 19A536g) in-place over DP5 on an external SSD.
Used patcher 1.0.7 to download DP6 and to install.
No manual steps needed (except confirmations/password) between starting the installation in DP5 and logging into the booted DP6!
Photos and all I need seems to work fine in DP6, as it did in DP5. No unusual CPU load observed, other than from some processes active for a while after an installation.

Many thanks to dosdude1, ASentientBot and all for the great work.

(MBP5,2 17" 2.8GHz mid 2009, 8GB, APFS ROM patch applied, Samsung SSD 840 EVO with APFS.)

Note to @ASentientBot :
- I don't observe the blanked-out screen when inverting colours or changing resolution - all fine
- didn't find the system back at the login screen yet. I did observe this a few times in DP5 and even after booting back into 10.14.6 Supplemental on my internal SSD, sometimes associated with sleep/wake failures. Resetting SMC alone, sometimes also nvram, then cleared to situation. Will try to reproduce...

Finally I decided to give Catalina another go after installing the very first 10.15 Beta on my MacBook5,1. The Catalina patcher is great, love the Dark Mode and very professional interface. I would love to have a bit more control over the patches as I could not find an option to disable the APFS patch. Patched the Night Shift manually. The performance of the DP6 is much better than the 10.15 Beta. Photos seems to be working, Maps crashing when zooming, unable to change the profile picture (Giant circle as per attached image). MCP79 is no longer recognised and listed as generic. All in all I am very happy with the result so far, thanks for the continued effort guys!

Revisiting My Catalina WiFi Issue.

On my unsupported MacBookPro5,3 (15-inch, Mid 2009), I've been having issues with WiFi not working (or not appearing under System Preferences | Network) on both my Mojave and Catalina Partitions. I used @dosdude1's Catalina Patcher 1.0.6 to install Developer Preview 5 and ran the Post Install steps, including the AFPS Rom patch (required for this model) and the Legacy WiFi patch as well.

Haven't gotten it to work (no wireless). Are there anyone out there using the same Mac model and Catalina DP5 that have the Wifi working?

I will attempt to install the latest Developer Preview 6 and use @dosdude1's Catalina Patcher v1.0.7. It's really getting frustrating to do these lengthy steps again. This is my "sandbox" device and really wanted to try again.

Thanks for any input.

P.S. right now I successfully installed the latest Mojave GM and Catalina DP6 on a supported machine for my development work.
