AirPlay icon appear/disappears every time I click on "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available", is that normal? This model Macbook Air Mid 2011 is compatible by hardware with AirPlay. Since I can not see the AirPlay icon at the top bar, I can not connect to SideCar.

AirPlay mirroring won't work more on Catalina since the SkyLight/CoreDisplay/OpenGL are patched and from Mojave, instead it will work again if you'd not used the "Video Patch", also in a non-video-accelerated Catalina system AirPlay mirroring (to an appleTV for example) should work.

Sidecar not, because apart the AirPlay it requires a Metal GPU.

Hi, do you have problem with Google Maps in Safari? On my MBP mid 2010 running Catalina it's extremely slow - CPU on 100% with CVMCompiler process taking almost all of it. Not sure if it has anything to do with Catalina on this Mac, but I think it was OK on High Sierra. Thank you.

Hi jackluke, your comment on sidecar reminded me to follow up on my trials with cMP5.1 with its RX580 and usb-c. It would appear that a metal gpu is not sufficient and sidecar relies on HEVC encode/decode. This is obtained from cpus having the relevant intel Quick Sync or T2 chip or HEVC enabled gpu. The problem with the cMP5.1 is that Apple have made a decision not to enable HEVC on the RX580!!! Some geniuses are working on it but nothing so far.

So I can run the update through the official Mac update that its showing me? Sorry, thats whats confusing me. I don't really want to do a clean install, since Ive only been running Mojave for about 2 months.
Sort of. I would recommend installing it through the patcher though, because it has the same effect.

Basically, when you launch the patcher, it asks if you want to download a new copy of the installer, or use one you already have. You can download the official installer apple gives you, and then direct the patcher to the install file, or you could just have the patcher download it for you. Either way, you need to install the downloaded file through the patcher if you are using an unsupported mac, so that the patcher can apply necessary patches to make sure your macOS runs properly. This will not delete the files already contained on Mojave, it will just update your operating system. Even so, a backup is highly recommended.

Updating using apple's official way without the patcher will not work if you are using a device that does not support Catalina, because the patches are different between Mojave and Catalina, but if your device supports Catalina you can do it the official way.

What is the situation with HEVC on the GTX680?

MBP4,1 17-inch: running latest macOS build [19A602] almost perfectly, except for one major flaw: keyboard backlight is not working. Does anyone have a solution to make it work? Thanks alot in advance for your help.

You're right, infact the MBA4,2 has also the Bluetooth 4.0 , later try my patched kext, it should work for AirDrop.

Then to add additional features to your BT 4.0 device you could try this terminal command (in one line):

sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Set:Mac-YOURMACHINEID:ContinuitySupport true" "/System/Library/Frameworks/IOBluetooth.framework/Versions/A/Resources/SystemParameters.plist"
Should work for a Macbook Pro 8,3, with updated hardware that worked in Mojave with the Continuity Tool?

Thanks

On my Mac Pro 2008, Google Maps seems to work fine. I have a GTX 680 Metal capable GPU. I can zoom out to see the globe and rotate it quickly. I can zoom in and switch between Map and Satellite mode.

Unless you already have AirDrop in your Finder, you can try but I guess it would be not suffice, since continuity and Airdrop are linked in some way, you should try the continuity activation tool.

This should be your machine-id if you want to try: Mac-942459F5819B171B

If you don't have the AirDrop in Catalina, I could make a manually patched one, but confirm your machine id from a Catalina Terminal:

ioreg -l | grep "board-id" | awk -F\" '{print $4}'

ioreg -r -n ARPT | grep IOName

system_profiler -detailLevel basic | grep "Card Type"

Thank you so much, sir.
I have Airdrop, but not continuity.

"IOName" = "pci14e4,4331"

Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0xF5)

That´s so kind from you. Thank you so much.

Try this, it's a patched Catalina Wifi kext that should enable AirDrop the attached is only for MacBookPro8,3 .
Follow the method I already wrote on previous post, replace (do not merge) both the kext in your Catalina /S/L/E/ then chown/chmod/kextcache .

Out of curiosity, what is your GPU temperature when idle? The program I use to monitor my hardware says my GPU is 59 degrees with the highest CPU core at 97 degrees (rendering a video) with 0 volts going to the GPU.

GPU Diode: 46
GPU Proximity: 42
CPU cores: 49

On Mojave, GPU diode was @ 20 with the same CPU cure temps.

You're welcome, let me know if AirDrop worked, because I had a doubt that your "0xF5" Wifi card might need patching the "AirPortBrcmNIC" instead of "AirPortBrcm4360" driver.

In case you lose Wifi after my patch, simply use the dosdude1 post-install and re-apply his "Wifi-patch".

Wow, your laptop runs way cooler than mine ever did. I'm sorry I couldn't help, but it seems to run perfectly fine for me, so I figured it might help someone else too.

Not available. None of the Kepler series seem to have H.265 (HEVC) hardware. They do have H.264 (AVCHD). Even if they did Apple seem to have no incentive to activate it. With the RX580 it was even taken out of Mojave - this is with the supported cMP5.1 and the recommended graphics card.

All that's installed on a MacPro4,1 and 5,1 is the compatibility check bypass boot args entry, so the system actually boots, and the Legacy WiFi Patch so the stock WiFi cards continue working. This will not affect functionality with newer WiFi cards. No other patches are installed.

So I came back from my out of state trip early and downloaded the new patcher. It pulled in build #19A602 and installed without any issues.

Thanks again for your hard work.

How did you disable the dGPU on Catalina?

my temps are hot on Catalina, but I didn't do anything post install. I don't want to break sleep/wake.

CPU core 71.5
GPU die 62.5
GPU prox 60.2
iGPU 70

Say Friends ... I can not believe it, is not there Full installer version of Catalina 10.15.1 DP1 or DP2?
On my supported Hackis it is not a problem, because I could easily update to the DP2.
I wanted to install the 10.15.1 DP1 or DP2 on my unsupported Medion laptop.
But ohen full installer and USB stick with dosdude1 patcher is not .. or does anyone have another idea?
Ir working here probably all only with the final 10.15? or has anyone installed the 10.15.1 DP1
or DP2 on an unsupported Mac?
