macOS 10.15 Catalina on Unsupported Macs

"pci168c,2a" and "0x168C" indicate an Atheros Wifi card that not sure if it had a working AirDrop on Mojave (because apple from 10.14 dropped officially all the Atheros Wifi cards), but I'm enough sure that the AirDrop patch for Catalina is only for Broadcom Wifi cards "0x14E4 , 0x9* or later".
 
@oliveira131 , I tried to understand how apple on "Intel GPUs" made a transition from OpenGL to Metal, and from what I understood, apple introduced Metal API that travel together with an enhanced "OpenGL API version" supported from a GPU, here is an useful table I found on Intel site:

Even if the explaination is for "Windows 10", it might apply also to other previous OSX major OpenGL API upgrades (from Mountain Lion to Mavericks or from Mavericks to Yosemite for example), but in Mojave/Catalina case I noticed this:

IntelHD3000 supports OpenGL API till 3.1 version
IntelHD4000 supports OpenGL API till 4.0 version (from this OpenGL version they introduced Metal)

In few words, I guess can't have a "Metal API" if the GPU doesn't support at least an "OpenGL API version 4.0".

These are just my suppositions.

DosDude patched Catalina on upgraded Mac Pro 5,1 with flashed Metal capable Radeon and updated BLE. Normally run with SIP after install.
Safe Mode boot results in "FORBIDDEN" sign. Does SIP have to be off for this? I also cannot boot from Recovery.
 
Hi, just installed Catalina on my Macbook alu late 2008 (Macbook 5,1).
I'm currently having 2 major problems:

1. The dock is missing. It only appears if I use exposè or if i open the App section.
2. Can't open my Photos library. It's >200gb and if I select it, the Photos app just freezes trying to "update library" to 2 or 5%.

Any help on how to fix this?

check to see you dock settings in System preferences uncheck if its checked for hidden for the photos app try closing the app the press control-option keys while opening the app

I installed catalineautomount hitoolbox, skylight but I continue with bluedark sceen when booting I have to put original hitoolbox back from my 10.15 final so that it boot well and without tramsparencia my gpu is hd 3000 I don't know what happens or if someone also happens thanks

Safe mode will not use the nvram no compat check so that is why you cannot use it with the cMP5.1. The patcher does not install a working recovery partition but this link works well: https://github.com/chris1111/Catalina-Recovery-HD-Partition

The Dock magically appeared after some time, even without me touching anything.
Regarding Photos app, even with that method, still freezes on "Updating library" and stops to 0%

I used dosdude1's patcher(ver1.2) successfully installed Catalina onto my early 2009 iMac, everything is fine except:

1: Airdrop is missing, the Airdrop app doesn't even exist in the system at all, although wifi is perfectly normal

2: In light mode, sidebars are grey-out in every window, which made light mode totally unusable

Anyone with similar experience ?
 
To those who previously read my post about "OpenGL API versions" that I found on the Intel site essentially for "Windows OS", I have to rectify:

IntelHD3000 OpenGL API version 3.3
IntelHD4000 OpenGL API version 4.1 (this is the minimum Intel GPU Metal capable)

Apple has a detailed webpage slitghly different from Intel and an advanced document.

However summing up, apple with HighSierra supported OpenGL until API version 3.3 , after with GPUs capable of “OpenGL API version 4.x” they translated it in Metal API, but I guess that Metal can't work without OpenGL.

I was trying to run Ookla Speedtest, but it will not run on my Mini 5,1 with Catalina installed. It just stays at this screen:

Try this. Someone else mentioned turning off Firewall. I tried but still not able to create USB installer. So I turned firewall back on, opened Firewall Options and added the 'Install macOS Catalina' file to the Firewall list It then let me create the USB installer.

I did the Catalina update on my mid 2009 mbp 13" and now my photos app is really weird. First of all I don't have the button photos (were all photos are located) and my iCloud photos are not refreshing, so I don't have my newest photos that I took 3 days ago. I tried to fix it by turning off the iCloud photos in the system preferences and than turning it back on, but all of this didn't work. I really don't know what I am doing wrong.
But everything else is working perfectly fine.

Try this :
1 unzip the CatalinaAutoMount place it in /Library/LaunchDaemons folder then reboot
2.unzip put the HIToolbox in /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Versions/A folder
3. Pit the SkyLightOriginal in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SkyLight.framework/Versions/A folder

This process work 100% for me
but only problem is auto, the system not switch to dark mode to light mod or viceversa
how to resolve?
I have a MacBook Air mid 2011

I have the same setup as you. I believe that you need Bluetooth 4.0 for Airdrop to work with Catalina which early 2009 iMac does not have natively

you might try control -option when opening the photos app with macOS Catalina we don't have metal supported Macs therefore the photos tab does not appear the only work around is right click on a photo and click show in all photos
 
How do I see if I got the supplemental/latest version of public Cata? I just see 10.15 (19A583) when I go to About this Mac and I see people talking about 15.x.x in previous posts but can't seem to find where to get that info.
