I did the Catalina update on my mid 2009 mbp 13" and now my photos app is really weird. First of all I don't have the button photos (were all photos are located) and my iCloud photos are not refreshing, so I don't have my newest photos that I took 3 days ago. I tried to fix it by turning off the iCloud photos in the system preferences and than turning it back on, but all of this didn't work. I really don't know what I am doing wrong.
But everything else is working perfectly fine.View attachment 872435

I have same issue on my 2009 MBP 13", can't see newer pictures after 10/14

Hello Jackluke, Meant to get back as mentioned after following your instructions albeit a bit late. As feedback: got airdrop according to your process and worked fine under version 10.15 (19A602). However once I Updated (via USB dosdude 1.20) to 10.15 (19A603) I suddenly found my MBP 8,2 without Wi-Fi. I tried (connected via LAN) to reinstall wifi legacy patch to no success thru installed Updater on MBP 8,2. ( I also tried to redo airdrop as per your instructions with success as well). What did work was to reinstall all patches (not only Wi-Fi Legacy) via USB Dosdude "Mac Install Post Patch" and got functionality back of Wi-Fi as well as airdrop. Thanks again for your Airdrop Patch. Much appreciated.

P.S. MBP 8,2 working like a charm (and even more "fluid" than Mojave) with your improvements and the workings of Dosdude and Co. combined with Julian's Bluesky patch.

I had the same problem on my MP 3,1 but after installing a compatible video card (RX 480) the Photos appeared. Actually the photos were downloaded before but the category wasn't visible (as in your screenshot). Not sure how to solve it for your Macbook though. Maybe running the Post Install scripts again.

I've updated my MacBook 5,2 2008 to latest Catalina, it solved user switching issue. Now I have two issues, first is long black text (terminal like windows at start) scrolling on screen before Apple logo and secondly it is still showing same old MacOS build number in system info

Try this. Someone else mentioned turning off Firewall. I tried but still not able to create USB installer. So I turned firewall back on, opened Firewall Options and added the 'Install macOS Catalina' file to the Firewall list It then let me create the USB installer.
I've tried this. Still cannot create USB installer or install to this machine.
Also tried to make High Sierra USB installer. Also failed.
Checkmate..

How do I see if I got the supplemental/latest version of public Cata? I just see 10.15 (19A583) when I go to About this Mac and I see people talking about 15.x.x in previous posts but can't seem to find where to get that info.

I am very confused. I created my SD patcher on a supported mac but I can't seem to get the latest Beta to install. Here are screen shots. How do I get the latest?

Have you actually tried that? When I last attempted to create a patched usb installer from 15.1.02, the resulting installer failed to run properly with the same error that was seen in Catalina Patcher 1.1.7 prior to the fixes being added for 15.0.33.

As far as I know the Catalina Patcher does not download the Dev betas unless you modify the DownloadSettings.plist in the patcher with the correct url but I don't know what it is

Are we the only ones or is it a common issue? Any fix planned?

use an app called night owl you can set it from sunrise to sunset light to dark modes as the auto feature is broke on our unsupported Macs

AirDrop Catalina pre-patched (only for Broadcom cards) to those interested you should post the output of these Catalina Terminal commands:

ioreg -l | grep "board-id" | awk '{print $4}'
ioreg -r -n ARPT | grep IOName
system_profiler -detailLevel mini | grep "Card Type"
system_profiler -detailLevel basic | grep "Model Identifier"


Meanwhile here are some Wifi kext that I've pre-patched (tested and working) to AirDrop on Catalina unsupported Mac, they are hyperlinks so just click the one for your machine to download:

AirDrop Catalina MacBook7,1 and MacBookPro6,2.zip

AirDrop Catalina patched MacBookAir2011 4,2.zip

MacBookPro8,3 AirDrop Catalina.zip

AirDrop fix Catalina MacBookAir4,1.zip

MacBookPro8,1 Airdrop Catalina.zip (This machine has two different board-id)

Macmini5,1 AirDrop Catalina.zip

MacBookPro8,2 AirDrop Catalina.zip


After downloaded, open a Catalina terminal and copy/paste:

sudo mount -uw / ; killall Finder

Then from Catalina Finder replace (do not merge) them inside your Catalina /System/Library/Extensions/

after from a Catalina terminal send these commands copy/paste one at once:

sudo chown -R 0:0 /S*/L*/E*/
sudo chmod -R 755 /S*/L*/E*/
sudo kextcache -i /


(the "kextcache" takes some minutes to complete)

At next reboot you should have AirDrop in Catalina Finder.

After you have a working AirDrop, I suggest to apply this additional fix to enable an extra AirDrop feature that apple removed from Catalina: "AirDrop Search for older Mac"

After a working AirDrop on Catalina, if you have also a Bluetooth 4.0 card (or BT4.0 usb dongle), to add Continuity (Handoff, hotspot, etc.) check this example: enable continuity from terminal

On these 0x8* Broadcom Wifi cards is not yet possible to enable AirDrop on Catalina, minimum required is 0x9* , probably that's due to the fact that 0x8* have BCM43xx firmware version 5.x , the 0x9* (or higher) instead firmware version 7.x (or higher).

"CSR" under the dongle picture is Cambridge Silicon Radio (the vendor that is not Broadcom BCM20702), however I have exactly that CSR dongle and it works properly.

Hence that dongle should work, but before buy post the output of this terminal command from your machine copy/paste:

system_profiler -detailLevel mini | grep "Card Type"

because Continuity (handoff, etc.) require at least a working AirDrop.

Hi @dosdude1 I tried the Catalina Patcher with a fresh downloaded copy of Catalina. I have been running it on my 2018 MacBook Pro with Catalina installed, trying to generate a bootable USB pendrive to use on my iMac 11,1. I can't finish the USB as I always seem to run into the same problem:

From the logfile:

Personalization succeeded
asr: Couldn't personalize volume /Volumes/macOS Base System - Operation not permitted

It always breaks down with an error there. I tried a reboot to gain fresh memory, I tried swappping out the pendrive for a different one but it always comes down to the same error.

I am thankful for any thoughts you possibly might have on the matter as a search yielded no results. :p

Question; how to migrate user data and configurations from a DosDude patched version of Catalina to standard Catalina on a new machine?

I've used DosDude's patched versions of OSX very successfully on an Early 2009 iMac for years including Catalina. But we have now replaced the iMac with a new 2019 one. Using an external Time Machine disk, I have migrated from the patched version of Catalina to a fresh, unpatched version of Catalina on the new iMac. It worked but it seems that quite a few of DosDude's patches have also migrated across and are causing some problems. Some are fixed by deleting the offending app. But some can't be deleted as they are 'part of OSX'.

Anyone got any ideas on either how to migrate without carrying over the patches or how to clear out the patches?
