I have a MBP 2011 15" with the infamous DGPU; here is the solution I use to solve the heat issue you mention with regard to AMDRadeonX3000.kext. courtesy of MikeyN #875 the process works for me. I have messaged also Dosdude to ask him how that integrates or not into his 1.2.3 patcher Catalina install process.and waiting for an answer when he has a moment as he (and others) is very busy keeping us "alive".
In terms of the process indicated in the the thread the. "force-iGPU-boot.sh" that I have reside in root (once Catalina is installed as it will erase it at every new Cat. Install) is there in the case of an "unlikely but possible" need to reset PRAM or SMC with loss dGPU bypass I can simply and quickly execute in single user mode to restore dGPU disabling and quickly recover from the screen issue because of the dGPU that along with the AMDRadeonX3000.kext process seems to solve the issue. My temps rarely go above 65-70 C using "everyday apps (Office, browsers, Acrobat, etc.). Of course when using the last Photoshop or the heavy intensive graphics use you will see the temps occasionally reaching 90C under heavy processing or installs but return quickly to normal. I also use a fan control app (TG Pro) to manage my temps and reduce heating that hopefully will prolong my MBP logic board life. Hope that is useful info. Cheers! Zfrogman
P.S after thought to clarify: With DosDude's Patch 1.2.3 installer (for Cat 10.15.1) you actually leave the AMRadeonX3000.kext in System/Library/Extensions folder - otherwise the system crashes (recovering with a reinstall of video patch). I still feel that although the MBP 2011 works great, I still create the System/Library/Extensions-off with the AMDRadeonX3000.kext as referenced in the LoginHook script you create as per MikeyN as I "feel" it keeps temps down and maintains iGPU acceleration display. It maybe however that Dosdude's 1.2.3 voids the need to create the MikeyN process as he seems to have solved the issue that was in the past resolved by MikeyN process. Maybe someone knowledgeable can provide the answer as I am just a grateful MBP 8,2 Gpu-reborn user. Of course at every install of Catalina software upgrade you will have to recreate the Extensions-off folder in /System/Library/ (or find a copy in /Library/ that the Catalina Install process does and copy over to /System/Library. - ciao

@dosdude1, yesterday, I downloaded the latest Patch Updater from dosdude1.com, let it download the Catalina installer and created a bootable USB thumb drive from it. I used this thumb drive to install Catalina (10.15.1) to my iMac which was already on Catalina (10.15). I did not upgrade from Mojave to 10.15. I formatted the drive and did a clean install.
Since my only access to my iMac appears to be single-user mode, how do I...
- Determine if there is a copy of the Mojave Patch Updater installed that is causing these problems?
- Undo whatever has been done so I can get my iMac running again?
From what I have gathered On my 2011 Mac Mini 5.1. When installing Mojave, I can get the Home app to work properly if I don’t have the acceleration patch installed. As soon as I do that and reboot, I have Graphic anomalies with the home app. Under Catalina, since patches are automatically applied, the graphics anomalies are immediate
Its the most popular card to use so far which works very well. We have to loose some to gain some. The listed issues are there and i choose same because i think it will work out of box Without inserting vbios.

@dosdude1 Maybe @ctaylora1231 is right and it did not happen for me with Mojave since my MBP6,2 did not need that patch back then?
That patch was needed for Mojave on that machine, or any machine that has a non-Metal GPU.
So you can confirm, that you were able to load this kext?
Almost non of the AMD kexts are loaded automatically on login for me

Check library declarations for your kext with kextlibs(8).As I understand all amd kexts should be loaded on launch by system except AMDRadeonX3000.kext (but I might be wrong), and AMDRadeonX3000.kext should be loaded manually or via loginhook after launch.
I am sure I have higher cpu temperatures now, because I remember ones I was getting at Mojave, when i was able to load AMDRadeonX3000.kext.
Hi Although my system is MBP 8,2 the AMDRadeonX3000.kext is the same I believe. My experience with the install patch 1.2.3 is that the kext is automatically installed by the patcher in the System/Library/Extensions folder. Seems whatever Dosdude did makes it a necessity for it to reside there. I initially following the "old" MikeyN process, moved it out of Extensions to put in the Extensions-off as I mentioned but when I did that my system crashed and went into a boot loop. So I put back in (reinstall of legacy video patch via 1.2.3 USB installer method). Try to re-install all the patches not just legacy video and check "force refresh of cache). and see what happens. I Still went ahead and created the extensions-off with the AMDRadeonX3000.kext with Loginhook and also the force-iGPU-boot.sh script from MikeyN as it seems my system works well with that combo. As I sais maybe the Extensions-off is a redundancy not needed but that is a question for Dosdude or the moderators and knowledgeable.

Hallo. I have installed on my Mac Mini 5,1 mid 2011 & Apple Cinema 27 Display 10.15.1 the only thing that don't works is the microphone. There is a solution to fix this problem? I had installed 10.15.1 on my MacBook late 2008, on MacBook the microphone works but Siri don't, not a big deal for me because don't use Siri.
If you really wanted to dive in for testing, you can create a bridge, Homebridge, within terminal that has a plugin to create fake switches in the Home app for testing. I have 2 raspberry pi zeros' running homebridge, with cameras , connecting non-homekit devices such as a PS4. This is a pic from my iPad

The problem is not the accessories, Apple has a HomeKit accessory simulator. The problem is that I lack an iOS device new enough to have the Home app. I'm going to try it with the iOS simulator at some point, but I just haven't gotten to it yet.
I doubt that the graphics patches can be improved to fix the Home glitch, but perhaps the Home UI can be patched to work with the old graphics patches 😝
You're right, I guess could be used previous stuffs for the "Home.app" as also some other "macOS/iOS universal apps" that have their libraries since Mojave located here: /System/IOSSupport/
for Home* particularly this path: /System/IOSSupport/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/
maybe patching this Catalina one could fix those minor graphical issues: HomeUI.framework
the osx command "softwareupdate" got extended in Catalina, the man pages still do not show it:

Is there a way to get the keyboard backlight back on the MBP4,1 17-inch (Early 2008). A solution would be highly appreciated.
I see discussion of some installing the 15.1.2 beta. Without a full installer to download how does one go about doing that?
It's 10.15.2 DP1, but you basically have to download the delta update from the software catalog, then extract it with
pkgutil --expand-full, cp -a it over the root of the system volume, and re-patch. Or at least, that's how I do it. It doesn't seem like anyone has figured out a working patch for the System Preferences update method (like last year's VMM flag hack), but I'm not clear on the details.In any case, an OS installed this way seems slightly iffy (it breaks some screensavers and shows a bunch of hidden folders like
/bin), so I wouldn't do it unless necessary. The only reason why I update is to make sure that the non-Metal acceleration patches are still working.Yeah, at least for the meantime, "Lab Tick" a small keyboard light utility that will auto dim and turn off keyboard light at your desired setting, also don't forget to load lab tick in the "start up" folder after you set it up so you don't have to mess with it again. It's an excellent substitute until the patch is written for the ambient light sensor. I too have an early 2008.

I have downloaded your latest Catalina patcher, 1.2.3 and followed your video instructions. The USB stick boots and comes up with the correct window, Disk Utility - re-install MacOS etc. I format and external USB hd as APFS. When I check the re-install it tells me that the copy of the "Install the Catalina OS" is damaged and cannot be used.
I tried that with a copy of 10.15.0 and 10.15.1 - (downloads on my 2014 'mac-mini'). I believe I also tried that with a direct download while creating the bootable drive with your patcher.
Please advise. I must have missed something.

First off, thanks to everybody involved in this project! Im really enjoying Catalina on my 2009 late iMac. Im just facing an issue in which my Powerbeats Pro won't connect to my iMac. AirPods (1st gen) connect just fine. Anyone else facing a similar issue?
Also, I am wondering if there would be any significant benefit if I bought a USB 4 (or higher) bluetooth dongle rather then use the outdated 2.1 bluetooth version on my iMac? Or if its even supported?

I forgot to include that the system I am trying to install Catalina on (above) is a 2012 Macpro5,1 c/w RX470 GPU
