I've plugged them into the 2 front and/or the 3 on the back. But I'm unable to get to the boot screen, either with the Radeon 7950 or the Radeon RX580 (which I don't think would allow it)
I had to create the bootable USB drive using the RX580 from MVC with the boot screen. Creating the USB drive using my previous non-bootscreen card did not allow me to boot from it, even with the RX580 in place for that.

You've actually answered your own question. Catalina will be faster than El Capitan but certain apps might not work as there is no Metal support(and no 32-bit support). The guys in this thread are quite fast with being on top of things but Catalina is still not recommended as the main OS(even on supported machines for that matter). I would have installed Mojave if I was you.

Thanks. Good points. I might try Mojave.

So what are the odds that Catalina Patcher won't be usable after February?

Apple Requiring Notarization for Non Mac App Store Apps Starting February 2020
It shouldn't have any effect on the patcher Apple only suspended it for the holidays so App Devs can get in updates for their apps before the holiday deadlines and for those who haven't notarized their apps since the release of Catalina this gives them time to do so but it was a requirement since the first release of Catalina Beta that apps had to be notarized

In my searching, I haven't found an answer, (I also looked at the changelog for the patcher at @dosdude1's website, and didn't see it being removed from the patcher), but is the Macbook 5,1 supported with Catalina? The supported devices doesn't list it anymore. Is it a typo on the site, or has it been officially retired from the patcher support?

That's not how I read that article. It says that the requirement for notarization of apps outside of the App Store was never enforced and will be starting Feb.

Thats apps like the electron facebook messenger apps all apps from the Apple Store were required to be notarized since the early beta's of Catalina but not all people like download all apps fro the app store I use softpedia or majorgeeks so those apps have to be notorazied and since the Catalina Patcher is used to boot outside the OS is shouldn't have any effect

It should be able to install Catalina

The notarization thing isn't a big deal -- you can still just right-click and select Open, like we have all been doing with unsigned apps for years.

I always get nervous about this since there has been no clear time table announced for they will remove the ability to run apps that aren't notarized. I definitely could see something like that eventually happening once they have fully deprecated the old kernel extensions in favor of the new userland ones.

Good man, what are you talking about?

I had an earlier version installed on my MacBook 5,1. This one, actually. Worked well, and trackpad worked fine too. There was an issue with MacBook 5,2 on Sierra and up if I recall, where it wouldn't detect it properly and treat it as a mouse instead of a trackpad, which would cause you to lose trackpad features. My 5,1 worked fine on Catalina, I'm running HS on it now just because it's my fav so far on all my machines. I like HFS+. It works. I'm used to it.

I assume you are talking about a BCM94360CD and not the BCM94360CS2. The latter has smaller connectors that require IPX MHF4 plug to UFL SMD Male Pin 0.81mm Coax Cable adapter cables. The stock BCM94360CD with the UFL connectors is much easier to hook up using the existing cables in a MacPro 3,1.
Bonjour,

It was a BCM94360CD but my MP 3,1 stock connectors are in very bad condition...so, not a big deal...as I said, my MP 3,1 is connected via a wired connection on the ethernet 1 port and I use a little Belkin BT4 dongle for Bluetooth.
On my MP 3,1, I do not really need Airdrop, handoff and continuity...

Many thanks for your reply.

This is neat people are doing this, though I’d be leery about installing this stuff for security reasons.

I’m pretty sure my MacBook (a Sandy Bridge model) is 2011, just outside the supported range, and it’s super annoying since I don’t know of any GOOD reason any decent sandy bridge PC shouldn’t be useable today. Hell, in a desktop pc I wouldn’t even bother upgrading it yet.

Hi all

Trying to start in recovery, fails and I get the following sign:

forbidden-sign-vector-921974.jpg

Then it continues booting normally from the start up disk.

Any ideas? I tried to search this thread but I got completely lost so sorry if this has been answered.

Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.

Hi everyone! Still not working the backlight on the MBP 4.1. Apparently "backlight CCFL patch" from Mojave patcher solves this problem. Dosdude1, can you please add this to the next Catalina patcher version?
And Merry Christmas!

Did you mean "Trying to boot from Mac Startup Manager" which is rather different?

Your signature says "PC Version" for the GPU - this will not work, as you need a Mac (boot screen) version GPU.
Thanks, I am using a mac gpu for the moment. I am only trying to get to recovery mode by pressing cmd+R at startup

Cheers
