Just reinstalled Catalina and did what you said, now it runs at around 40-50 celsius, more around the 50s, but I'm thinking of buying a jtag programmer and apply @dosdude1 s patch, will that reduce the heat? And also, does catalina support full sleep, brightness control and displayport video output on mbp8,3?

Glad those tips worked for you. I'll defer to @******* on the jtag programmer question, since he knows more about the MBP8,3 than I do.

If sleep, brightness and DisplayPort work in High Sierra, then I suspect they'll work fine for you in Mojave and Catalina (they do for me, albeit on a different platform). Again, @******* is the better one to answer the MBP8,3-specific questions.

Once you disable the video mux chip (either by removing/rewiring it or by reprogramming with JTAG) you´ll lose the display port function. Good news is: Thunderbolt will continue to work so you could hook up an external GPU (did so successfully but only with some Nvidia GT that are similar to the ones Apple used internally in older MacBooks) or e thunderbolt display.

I have a 15" MBP 8,2 (A1286) currently on mac os x 10.6.8 and the problematic AMD Radeon HD 6490M in it here.

I plan on upgrading to the newest version of Catalina by using dosdude's Catalina patcher.

What's your guys take on preemptively having the 1 resistor removed (as described here: https://realmacmods.com/macbook-2011-radeon-gpu-disable/) even if no issues have occured yet (as the MBP is still on 10.6.8) in order to permanently fix any future GPU issues (I'm fine with the Intel onboard GPU) after having upgraded to Catalina?

Is the sleep mode and brightness control not working properly on above mentioned MBP linked to the software or hardware fix of this GPU issue?

So Guys,

Got Catalina working on a raid.

BUT

How can i upgrade to 15.3???

Thx
You are never going to be able to install it in RAID. Even officials distros.

You have to clone the RAID to a single one drive.
Do the update and patches.
Clone again the single drive to RAID

You are done.

No!
I've done it with raid0 already but cant remember how.

No i tried raid1 and im stuck at this point.

Also installing on raid works perfectly!!!

So
NO!
You are wrong!

Maybe:
Raid 0 i installed to and update worked.
Raid0 created manually using terminal and gpt.

Now
I tried what you said...
Raid 1 using disktools and cloning from a single drive.
Updates not working.

Keep testing

Did you replace something incorrectly ? I worked perfectly on my machine.
You are also iMac 10,1?
I just copy & paste to those folder. Or any post process is needed?

I just try again but still no luck
1. Remove all input in input sources page (only keep US)
2. Removed Google Japanese Input
3. Replace those 3 file
4. Reboot
5. Chinese IME Cangjie work again
6. Original Japanese IME not working

don’t know why but I think I will keep google Japanese IME for daily operation

I replaced the arrange.monitorPanel, Display.monitorPanel, and Profile.monitorPanel with the ones from macOS Mojave 10.14.6 and the Display settings in System Preferences was work normally again except I even tried the NightShift.monitorPanel from Mojave so I forgot to make a copy of The AppleDisplay.monitorPanel when I replaced it with the one from Mojave then it partially broke the Display settings in System Preferences

Here are attached stock from Mojave .6 and from Catalina .4beta5 :

MonitorPanels taken from /System/Library/

And I noticed there is also a PrivateFramework for them and I attach too:

MonitorPanel.framework taken from /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/

I guess the Catalina ones are smaller due to the 64 bit only unix exec.

HI! I just installed the Catalina Patcher over my High Sierra OS on my mid 2010 16GB RAM original 500G 7200 RPM spinner (no worries a 4XXX series GPU) and it seems to be running very well but I have seemed to have lost the ability to use the Internet/regular recovery?

any way to recover my recovery?

@TimothyR734 is right, just replacing the Mojave's Display.monitorPanel in Catalina 10.15.4 /System/Library/MonitorPanels/

fixed the .4b5 Displays.prefpane !

Well done @TimothyR734 !

edit: I guess it could be used also the one from 10.15.3 since it's built for Catalina and it's 64 bit only.

edit2: if you want the brightness slider into the .4beta Displays.prefpane you need also this from a previous Catalina/Mojave:

/System/Library/MonitorPanels/AppleDisplay.monitorPanels/Contents/Resources/Brightness.monitorPanel

edit3:
using this attached from 10.15.4 beta 1 build 19E224g (of which I had still a full install) replacing the entire /System/Library/MonitorPanels/ will fix the entire Displays.prefpane on .4b5

What I noticed was NightShift was missing even though we got the notification from the patch updater to reinstall the Night Shift patch so I went into /System/Library then in the search section I typed in Night Shift then click on Library and it showed the NightShift.monitorPanel then right clicked show in enclosing folder then I thought maybe replacing the ones from Mojave might work as some frameworks have worked in Catalina from Mojave

Hav the devs of macrumors made uploading a metal requirement as now I can't upload screenshots so frustrating it was work so good before this remake I bet the whole forum will be metal required

i had installed this patcher on my Late 2008 Alum body Macbook
evervthing was going great, all of a sudden my computer crashed. turned off.
turned on and wouldnt get past the apple logo..

i have tried all the start up commands nothing works. i cant boot up into recovery mode i get the stop symbol.
i was trying to reinsall the OS but i cant seem to find a download for the Installer.app for el capitan to go back to the latest version my mac can handle..

at boot up it runs the script like commands like a terminal thing goes to the apple logo and just stays there. and then restarts. does the same thing and restarts

Instead of embed in the message to upload pictures on macrumors you can attach them with "Attach files" exactly as when you attach a zip file.

Since I don't have a 10.15.3 install, I found instead a 10.15.4 beta 1 where Displays worked , so without using a Mojave one you can replace this entire zipped folder: 10154beta1 MonitorPanels.zip

in your 10.15.4 beta 5 /System/Library/MonitorPanels/

Thanks for your Displays prefpane fix @TimothyR734 !

Thank you for the Brightness.monitorPanel that fixed mine even though it doesn't look like they way your slider looks as mine is at the top but it works partially as if you move the slider down it dims but doesn't not brighten back up sliding it back up and I tried the ones from 10.15.4 Beta 1 you provided but it woke it so I made sure I had a copy of the ones I had back to working

With my not supported HackBook laptop, the update to the DP5 Build 19E258a from 10.15.4
went absolutely smoothly. I was amazed at myself.

After stage 2 of the installation, the @dosdude1 patches for video and WLAN etc. are executed by the USB stick and then boots immediately, without any deficiency. I didn't need to install a single framework or kext afterwards, everything stayed the same as in DP3. Just that only "colors" can be seen in the system settings monitor and no option for the graphics resolution "monitors". But it is not important.

That with the BIOS, which jumps back to default, is still the same since the DP2. Even changing the AppleRTC.kext from Catalina 10.15.4 DP1 and Mojave 10.14.6 did not change anything.
I suspect it's nvram problem.
The update on the HackBook was easier than with my other 2 supported Hackintosh (see my signature).

If you don't have the brightness slider appearing in your display settings replace with the one from 10.14.6 /System/Library/MonitorPanels/AppleDisplay.monitorPanels/Contents/Resources/Brightness.monitorPanel

@TimothyR734 I have never had a brightness control on my HackBook, maybe it is the nVidia 9100m graphics?
But my F7 and F8 keys go for the brightness control and also the "projector calibration".

That is your mirroring options for Airplay when you click on Displays in System Preferences if you don't have a Brightness slider like in my post in 8796
