I did the installation with version 1.3.1 and now the boot is stuck in the progress bar. I've made attempts to boot to another partition on the SSD and HDD but without success.
- Is it possible to recover the damaged partition?
- How to create a partition to boot and then recover the damaged one or do a clean installation?
- There is a need to update the ROM to boot APFS, how to do?

At the moment I have HSierra installed on the HDD working OK.

This is only tangentially related to the unsupported Macs project, but thought I'd share anyways: I just figured out how to patch boot.efi to force-disable SIP no matter the setting in NVRAM.

Screen Shot 2020-03-26 at 5.34.17 AM.png

The assembly is as follows (offsets for 10.15.4 final):
Code:
0x1b842: mov dword[rcx+0x498],0xffffffff
or byte[rcx+0x6],0x8
ret

Yes, this is absolutely horrifying. Don't use the attachment without a very good reason.

Edit: I should have made this edit about two months ago when it was discussed on Discord, but I forgot. Instead of all those ffffff's, you should use 0x67 for a regular disable, rather than the "unsupported configuration". Thanks to @dosdude1 for this improvement.

I have managed to download the latest Catalina build or so it seems with dosadude1 app 1.3.1 . Is it the real thing, 10.15.4 or 10.15.3 ?

Hi everyone,
Unsurprisingly, update MP5,1 to 10.15.4 (19E266) with USB installer created with Patcher 1.3.3 and without any post install fixes, everything seems to be working fine since yesterday.

Hi @Vyzantion ,
The installer version for Catalina 10.15.4 (19E266) is: 15.4.01
For 10.15.3 (19D76) the installer version is: 15.3.00

Hi folks,

I have very big problems with my MacBook Pro 5,5 running High Sierra and trying to upgrade to Catalina. I downloaded Catalina Installer two days ago und tried to install it yesterday via coping to my MacOS partition. Now my Mac only shows the progess bar with the apple logo and it stocks around 5%.

Booting into Recovery mode works, but I have no keyboard or touchpad to do anything.
Booting into Single User mode works, but always shows "disk1s1: device is write locked".
Booting using option key shows only "macOS Installer", my Boot Camp "Windows" (still works) and "Recovery-10.13.4", but not my old "MacOS partition" with High Sierra.

Please, I hope you have any ideas, what can I do now.

Thx,
Scead

@dosdude1 Night shift unlocker patch had an update for 10.15.4. After I updated i lost the screen output on boot just before the login screen. I am completely lockout of that machine and cannot login even remotely. Is there any way to undo the patch?

Hi, I install this for other users, and for now I am still installing Mojave with HFS+ because I really don't want people to be able to install the system updates (because they will have to return, and no amount of explaining will get everyone to comply). Is it possible to fully disable (as in they won't even be visible) system and security updates in Catalina with APFS as the file system? Some command in terminal perhaps? Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi!
Some time ago I installed Catalina on my MacBook Pro 5,5. It worked ok. Then I bought a new MacBook Pro 14,1, updated it to Catalina and restored all my data from a time machine backup. Since then, I have a problem with system updates on the new MacBook, which I think is related to something left over from the old machine. I can't update to a newer version of Catalina from App Store, downloaded update and combo update. Installation starts, then asks to reboot and after reboot it just boots to desktop. It looks like something is blocking the installation. The only way to update is to download full Catalina installer and run it from an USB stick. Is there any way to solve it? Maybe check some logs? Thanks in advice for any help.

I don't mind staying on 10.15.3, however I still can't manage to get Safari extensions to work. Has anyone figured out a solution to this? I've found some suggestions to use Safe Mode but my MBA 4,2 gives a no entry sign when I try to boot safe mode so that's not an option.

I'm not using any at the moment, but on my MacPro 3,1 with GTX680, I had iBlocker installed under 10.15.3 and it was working fine.

Just wanted to say that I´m running Catalina 10.15.4 on my Mac Pro 5.1, updated GPU and WIFI/BT module, just with the argument -no compat in nvram.

For the first time, everything is working like a charm. Even unlock apps and the Mac with Apple Watch.
Out of curiosity, does playback of purchased content work reliably on your hardware configuration under the TV app? On my MacPro 3,1 with GTX680, the playback window almost immediately closes up when you try to resume a previously watched movie or tv show (that hasn't been explicitly downloaded). Weirdly, it seems that the first view of such content seems to play okay until the point where you pause and later try to resume.

Upgraded from 10.15.2 to 10.15.3 on my 5,1 using the "install to this machine" option of patcher version 1.3.4. It just sat on a black screen for a very long time because I have an unflashed card, but when it rebooted everything seems good.

I'll wait for the go-ahead for 10.15.4.

The MacPro 5,1 should be fine if you create a 10.15.4 installer using Catalina Patcher 1.3.1 as long as you have a supported Metal graphics card. The failures people are seeing are specific to the legacy video patches applied on machines with non-Metal graphic chipsets. My MacPro 3,1 has never run Catalina better than under 10.15.4.

I have an RX 580 8GB. But I’ll wait a little while still since I’ve heard of apps (like music) breaking.

There's a bug of some kind with 10.15.3 that triggers a security issue of some kind when trying to enable extensions. They work if they were already enabled but can't be enabled otherwise. Downgrading to 10.15.2, enabling them, and then upgrading again is a solution but I can't find a copy of 10.15.2. It's been annoying to not have 1Password or 1Blocker.

Serious issue with my BIOS based Hackintosh. Here is what I have posted on Insanelymac about this: I have just re-made the Catalina installer, with the updated OS. It could not install from it, like it could not copy. Then I have tried to reinstall Mojave, it worked pretty cleary last year the exact pen drive. It failed as well, saying something like: not package found, contact the system administrator. I was able to boot from USB pen drive Linux and install Windows from DVD. But no macOS from the pen drive, even from what worked fine before. I have reseted the BIOS several times, no succes. The first sign of something wrong was this: When I first tried to boot Catalina, it said something about BIOS (BIOS, not UEFI) reset and enter setup. I hapenned several times on my attempts. If something screwed in my hardware? The USB ports? The BIOS perhaps?
