No - just leave it as it is. Dosdude gave that advice in an earlier post.

Caveat: In case you reset NVRAM (which enables SIP) it could be that the next boot hangs. Then boot to your USB installer and in Terminal do csrutil disable. Then it should boot again fine.

Well, It works fine. I've tested it!

It works with the Brightness Fix Patch that's downloaded from @dosdude1 patch updater for the Early 2009 MacBook on the 4,1 MBP. It doesn't work with the one called Ambient Light Sensor Patch that's built into the installer. I think they're different because one works and one doesn't work.
Have you checked operations with an external screen attached to your MBP4,1?
So far, I have only gotten the CCFL backlight patch working without a second monitor. As soon as one is attached, the window server constantly crashes and reloads in a loop.
Would be great if your solution is different in that aspect!

I installed 10.15.4 Final before Catalina Patcher 1.3.5 was released I used the OTA method I had a copy of the com.apple.security.validation.plist which I put in my LaunchDaemons folder then downloaded the update applied your catalinaswuamfi4fix in the terminal after the install was complete entered csrutil disable in terminal inside the patcher then applied the post install patches except the last one which in the libraryvalidation patch rebooted and it worked :)

Putting the "com.apple.security.validation.plist" in LaunchDaemons won't work, you should put it only in /Library/Preferences/ and you have to select in the post install patches the libraryvalidation patch

After OTA update use the Catalina Patcher 1.3.5 for post-install patches (included the libraryvalidation patch and SIP Disabler patch)

Because especially these two patches surely will keep SIP and AMFI disabled for any next Catalina release:

Anybody knows how to fix the error in the music app?

I applied the last @dosdude1 patch (1.3.5), but I still can't start the music app. I booted from usb and apply the post-install patches (Included the "libraryvalidation") but it still doesn't work.

Does google chrome work for anyone under 15.4? MBA 13 2011, everything seems to be working but chrome both canary and stable crashes on launch.

Hello,
I have been successfully running 10.15.3 using the dosdude's 1.30 patcher from USB install method on MBP 8,2 (2011) with defective dGPU. I have created a 1.35 patch-based USB installer to install 10.15.4. However once the USB created and booting to USB to install 10.15.4 the install process hangs at apron. 90% (SIP disabled). I have also tried with auto patch post install. The USB stick has been used (reformatted each time since the first iteration of Catalina 10.15.2 without a problem). From what I understand no need to check "disable APFS boot booter" (never have in previous USB installers). Same problem with another USB stick. Any suggestions? I haven't tried a "direct install" as I want to have a USB stick available if I need to reinstall for any reason. Thanks.

If you have a residual of a previous kext, remove it and Music.app should work
Code:
sudo rm -r /Library/Extensions/DisableLibraryValidation.kext
sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/DisableLibraryValidation.kext
sudo kextcache -i /
sudo reboot

I have just re-implemented "catalinaswufix5amfi.command" with a GUI to allow, download and install the Catalina Beta Software Update (and public too) on any Catalina unsupported Mac, I have tested it and seems to work enough good.

I used the @Czo SUVMMFaker.dylib , @Pinarek method of OTA .dist editing for machines whitelisting, and @ASentientBot disablelibraryvalidation with AMFI disabling methods .

In case someone haven't used yet the latest @dosdude1 patcher that include the @ASentientBot SIP patched boot.efi , if you reset the PRAM you still need to use "csrutil disable" (from an USB Catalina Installer or Recovery environment terminal) before apply the post-install patches.

I release it now, before the 10.15.5 beta 1 , the app should allow also "OTA Combo updates", for example from 10.15.0 to 10.15.4 . While usually the Delta Updates are from 10.15.3 to 10.15.4 .

The CatalinaOTAswufix.app source code is viewable simply browsing the Show packages Contents.

My app is totally harmless and safe for any mac.

Tks @jackluke. This is really helpful. So much threads and options and solutions has confused me. Before I take the jump to 10.15.4 on my iMac mid 2011 27" having upgraded Nividia GTX Graphics 760M just want to seek your opinion on few issues.
1. After using your tool provided of swufix I can download the 10.15.4 through OTA on existing running Catalina 10.15.2 or 10.15.3.
2. Will the 2nd step be to download Dosdude1 patch 1.3.5 through USB and install post patches while booting the usb.

3. Or make the usb installer of 10.5.4 and boot from it , first to disable sip.

Tks for your confirmation.

Many thanks to @alphascorp, @serafin79 and especially @yezza who helped find the constant "deleted" process activity. iStatMenus was the culprit, even after the in-app "uninstall" at least 20 "bjango" and iStat files remained. Both EasyFind and FindAnyFile concurred and the cruft deleted. But it required a Onyx/Maintenance run and a few reboots to settle this old Mini3,1 down.

The 10.15.4 Finder DS version 1.14.4 seems a little more snappy than previous versions of Catalina.

Made a fresh USB patcher w/ v.1.3.5 and only reinstalled the req. patches, now the '09 Mini is smooth as silk.

@K two great that you were able to flush those iStat files out. FYI I still have iStat Menu's installed, but have not activated disk monitoring, and so far there is no random "deleted" process CPU usage. I just paid for the upgrade since installing Catalina the other week, and enjoy iStat's functionality, so hope I don't need to kick it to the curb!

Also here, I'm happily using iStat functionality, only for CPU/GPU, Memory, and Sensors.
Looking at Activity Monitor I do see deleted and its helper but with marginal CPU consumption.

1) Yes, the tool allow beta (and public non-beta) Catalina updates, I'd advise from software update options to disable the "automatic install" to give the user more control when install it

2) Yes, is advisable for post-install patches to use the USB Catalina patcher 1.3.5 that includes the new SIP boot.efi method

3) In case of no desktop with full apple loading bar in most cases "csrutil disable" fix that

About non-EFI-apple Metal GPUs, I read many that don't have a boot screen but only a black screen, in this case the OTA update should proceed smooth even with a black screen (just wait one hour and you should automatically land to desktop), but it's very important during the post-install to de-select the "Legacy Video Patch", also I recall that Metal GPU mac can boot even with AMFI enabled.

Click Software Update fix, then app will show the update panel and a log, then start to download at least 1% of update, re-open the app and apply the OTA update fix.

After download completes restart to install, OTA update phases are four (three apple logo with loading bar and one Catalina circle) and are automatic, after the third phase when Catalina logo circle complete the installation, apply the post-install patches, then it should work.

If after this you still a have a full loading bar, simply boot from an USB Installer recovery terminal and type:
csrutil disable ; reboot

Dear all,

I have been following @dosdude1 since ever and always was successful with patching my systems until now. On my MacbookPro 5.5, I installed the new 1.3.5 patch and downloaded the new Catalina app. Once finished I was able to create a brand new USB flash boot drive. The 2 following options to upgrade to 10.15.4 did not work:
- installing after downloading and patching the new Catalina version results in a classic reboot without any update
- booting from the flash drive results in the "damaged Catalina version" and hence no ability to update either (tried the csrutil terminal command but tells me the system is unknown).

I hope you could assist as I ran out of options to try!

Thanks to all

Hey guys, still a bit stumped on this one. Tried the new patcher and everything, even with a recovery drive but no dice. Could anyone chime in if they have had this issue and were able to solve it?

Thanks!

ok, so even with the over the air utility I still need to have a new dosdude1 usb styck to apply those patches, wright?

Yes, using the post install patches from version 1.3.5 is advisable.

Because the OTA update will refresh many system files (kext, framework, telemetry), so having updated patches wrappers and boot.efi is better.

So are you saying that if you click the “Download Latest Version“ button, you can’t get v1.3.5 ?

Hi read this after my recent post regarding the hanging of install of 10.15.4 (on MBP 8,2 -15" 2011) with dosdude patcher downloading "latest version" that was done yesterday. In fact went to launch patcher that was downloaded and in effect the About indicated 1.30 instead of 1.35. Strange also went to "alternative download and got "404 error". I am redownloading "latest version" patcher to see if... will let you know.

UPDATE: Dosdude Patcher: Just downloaded "latest version" and again get ver. 1.30 and not 1.35. Any suggestions? thanks

I ended up upgrading using csrutil disable and the 1.3.1 dosdude patcher. I upgraded fine on a Mac mini 3,1 and applied the latest Legacy video patch. I was able to boot in fine, no visible issues; when I tried to create a USB installer with the latest Catalina Patcher (1.3.5), the computer randomly rebooted and now I cannot boot to it nor a recovery usb installer.

I can only boot a live ubuntu USB. Any attempts to boot a working Catalina installer USB simply hang. The apple progress bar will not even move. :( Has anyone else experienced this?

Please note: I am not saying the crashing is related to the patcher (my many thanks to those who put in the effort to create such patches).

I have a gtx860m(no custom rom available)kepler but no efi boot screen , i need an fix for this... i don't need any legancy drivers either, but the display stays black. Who can help me? .3 working perfekt but .4 stay on black screen... Must i buy an nvidia card this support nicks rom?

Do you have the APFS boot ROM applied? I am a bit unclear myself on whether both an fixed boot.efi and a fixed SIPManager.kext were added to Catalina Patcher 1.3.5. It was interesting that no one with a MacPro 3,1 seemed to see the breakage in Catalina Patcher 1.3.1 which suggested all the folks who tested had applied the APFS ROM patch.

Hi [U]jackluke[/U]
I ran the Catalina ota/software fix but it says that no file/directory do I have to do something else?

If you renamed the CatalinaOTAswufix.app or internally packages you moved some files then it's a permissions issue or wrong path, so simply re-download the CatalinaOTAswufix.app from my previous post, don't rename the app and move it on Catalina Desktop , or Applications or Downloads, running from those paths surely will work.
