DisplayPort does not work on nVidia cards under any Catalina version, for some reason. You will need to use either HDMI or DVI to connect your monitors.
Many thanks, that's an easy solution then! Glad Amazon still works over here...
This means HDMI (graphics card) to DP (monitor) will not work either, right?

10.15.5 beta 1 Ota updated installed succesfully through my CatalinaOTAswufix.app , acceleration achieved thanks to @ASentientBot 4b6 wrappers.

For SIP and AMFI disabling I still use "csrutil disable" and nvram boot-args="-no_compat_check amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1"
(To do this you need at least an USB Installer or a working Recovery terminal)

Before OTA stage 3 (Catalina circle installer) apple added this static screen (with black bar full filled and bar blinking):
OTA stage 2 new screen.png

Just wait 10 minutes and OTA will proceed without issues.

After someone report that CatalinaOTAswufix.app 5b1 OTA update worked on a different machine with APFS firmware (or APFS ROM patched), I'll release an exclusive "APFS OTA installer" method also for non-APFS firmware machines.

Awesome news! I'll install it this evening :)

I also owe everyone an apology for the codesigning issues on third party apps with the latest patcher. It was caused by my sloppy SIP-disable hack in boot.efi, which @dosdude1 has now fixed.

Patching the boot.efi is anyway a great patch, and some few apps as Chrome crashed only at first launch, at second launch they worked, your core2duo, non-metal and finder light mode patches are amazing they still work correctly on 10.15.5 !

(This analysis is a work in progress; I'll post updates as I refine my findings. This will include a detailed list of programs/libraries/etc. that definitely contain SSE4.2 and/or AVX+ instructions.)
The AVX+ scan is still running, but I thought I'd post the list of executables that definitely contain SSE4.2 instructions. Note that some of these also contain AVX+ instructions, and will show up again when I post that list. Note also that while I've manually determined that these executables do contain SSE4.2 instructions, I have not yet determined the circumstances under which those instructions might be triggered - in other words, they might never actually be executed in real-world conditions.

Great work @jackluke I used your Catalinaswufix.app for an OTA update to Catalina 10.15.5 and it worked perfectly on my mid 2009 MacBook Pro. I used @dosdude1's patcher 1.3.6 to finish the update and then did my usual to enable the night shift tab on the display prefpane.

I decided to release my OpenCoreAPFSloader (customised bootloader), this can be used from any EFI Mac, but is mainly for those who have a non-APFS firmware machine (mac supported till El Capitan) for Catalina OTA updates.

The advantages using OpenCore in general are:

- you can detect after power-on any HFS, APFS and even APFS ramdisk dmg (also Bootcamp partition);
- detect any APFS macOS Installer automatically made from a macOS Install Data volume (OTA updates for example);
- you can always after power-on chime hold alt-option key and show the default apple bootloader (the OpenCore label is EFI Boot)

and I added also some efi exec to show the boot screen when using apple non-EFI Metal GPUs (I could not test this but I guess it should work)

I made a simple app that will install my custom OpenCore bootloader for Catalina, harmless and safe for any Mac.

You can install it even before updating with OTA update fix.

To uninstall simply from System Preferences, open Startup Disk select any macOS install, or re-applying the dosdude1 post-install patches my bootloader is easily overwritten.

edit:
If someone want to test, after downloaded don't rename the app and launch it from any of these paths: Desktop, Downloads, Applications

In the example picture the "macOS Installer" is an OTA update that can be manually loaded from non-APFS firmware machines.

At the OpenCore menu if you wait after 30 seconds will automatically boot to the latest chosen volume, if you move the arrows the bootloader will stay there until you select a volume.

If you plug an external usb drive press esc key from opencore to refresh the boot list.

For OTA updates on non-APFS firmware you need anyway to use first the CatalinaOTAswufix.app for OTA update fix (dist machine whitelisting), then during OTA downloading launch also the OpenCoreAPFSloader.app and install it, after reboot, from OpenCore bootloader pick the "macOS Installer" that should continue to OTA installer.

Just released version 1.4 of Catalina Patcher. This fixes the issue where SIP may be in a strange state, and adds fixes for the Displays pane of System Preferences on machines with non-Metal GPUs.

I will try this new patcher : make a new USB stick and reinstall 10.15.4 over the previous installation.

For info :

csrutil status :

- booted from 10.15.3 installer : Apple internal disabled
- booted from 10.15.4 installer : Apple internal enabled
- booted "normaly" from my SSD : Apple internal enabled

Weird !

Serviteur,

Hi all

Has anyone noticed any issues related to the unmounting of external (usb) drives? Many times when I have more than one drives mounted, after a while dismounting them is impossible and when I try to shut down or reboot, my macpro (5.1) hangs and then, minutes later, restarts with a kernel panic message.

Thanks

Installed 10.15.4 with 1.4 on MBP5,2 with bootable USB installer, very easy und automatic.

NightShift (v 4) installed with Patch Updater, and indeed ater booting it is there without further manual replacements.
Checked that amfi is taken care of in Preboot's Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist.

For info, csrutil status shows all seven items disabled.

I like Catalina more and more with each new version.
Thank you dosdude!

Now will try 10.15.5b1 OTA installation with jackluke's apps.

Works here (MBP5,2, 10.15.4/1.4). I do it often, but will continue trying.

I made an important update to my OpenCoreAPFSloader, now as you can notice I got also SIP Apple Internal Disabled that means SIP fully disabled, I used an OpenCore feature for csr-active-config , nothing is patched on your system, only in my OpenCore nvram updated config file.

I am using stock 10.15.5 beta1 boot.efi , deleted SIPManager.kext , removed the disablelibraryvalidation.plist and even done a PRAM reset SIP is kept fully disabled!

Using my customized OpenCore bootloader all those stuffs are directly fixed, I attached two proof pictures!

edit: here is the app updated it will work on any EFI Mac (but is specially for non-APFS firmware machines supported till El Capitan): OpenCoreAPFSloader.app

To run properly the app move it in one of these paths (without using subfolders): Applications or Downloads or Desktop

if you use an APFS firmware Mac (supported till HighSierra), to load opencore menu simply hold alt-option key after power-on chime, and pick the EFI Boot volume.

For OTA updates fix check this post: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macos-10-15-catalina-on-unsupported-macs.2183772/post-28320558

So booting from the 10.15.3 installer and applying 'sudo csrutil disable --no-internal' doesn't help for the 10.15.4 installation?

Hi All,

Apologies in advanced for how elementary this question may come across...

I've got a 27" Late 2009 iMac, 11,1 with a swapped 1TB SSD and 8gb RAM and looking to run DosDude's patcher to it up to Catalina from El Cap. Main reason for doing this is to be able to run newer Adobe CC and Microsoft Office software as I am now working from home due to COVID.

My Mac does have a HD4850, and from everything i've read the OS install and patch look pretty straight forward (due to the hard work of everyone in this community). I've realize the video card is a non-metal card and that this shouldn't effect the install, however I have read a few posts on this thread that users were not able to install Microsoft Office or Adobe CC as a result of their video card not supporting Metal.

Before I go through the process, can anyone confirm successful Adobe/Microsoft installs on non-metal video cards, specifically the HD4850?

(Note that AVX+ instructions appear in the kernel, Dock, Finder, APFS, OpenCL, dyld, and other "core" or "essential" services. This does not bode well for the long term.)

In addition, I note that the following applications on one of my disks contain AVX+ instructions:
Code:
XCode & Command-line Tools
Lightworks
Gimp
VideoProc
Audacity
Thunderbird
Firefox
Atom
Blender
Cmake (Qt)
Since Catalina is generally stable on the Mac Pro 3,1, I'm currently assuming that many/most of these instructions are only invoked if the appropriate features are present on the CPU. However, we know with certainty that this is not the case for all of them, so there will be cases where the Mac Pro 3,1 misbehaves or fails with Catalina.

The dynamic libraries in /usr/lib are troublesome, because they're used in various places, including Input Methods (which is why Japanese and others don't work properly without modification).

At this point, I plan to focus on adapting MouSSE to the additional SSE4.2 instructions, and continue the AVX+/SSE4.2 analysis as time permits.

Is anyone else seeing this with a clean install from a 10.15.4 installer created with Catalina Patcher 1.4? I am finding on my MacPro 3,1 with GTX680 that executing 'sudo csrutil status' only produces...

System Integrity Protection status: disabled.

instead of the more verbose version that shows the status of each SIP feature. Strangely, the size of the csrutil utility seems identical to that installed by patched 10.15.4 created with Catalina Patcher 1.3.5.

Just released version 1.4 of Catalina Patcher. This fixes the issue where SIP may be in a strange state, and adds fixes for the Displays pane of System Preferences on machines with non-Metal GPUs.

Hi, thanks Dosdude1 for your work ...

But it says: "This copy of the Install macOS Catalina application is damaged", but works when i trash InstallInfo.plist , until it says the Installer needs an internet connection.

I don't understand because i succeed to install Catalina 4 days ago; since Little Snitch Installer broke my login access, ,i can't reinstall it :(. i just remember having updated my bootrom, but i don't now much ...

Update to 10.15.5 DP1 with old 1.3.0 Dosdude1 patch.
Nothing new (frameworks or anything else) was needed.
Except that the bios always goes back to default settings after
restart (only with Catalina but not with Mojave) everything else completely ok.
It's just that simple with Hackintosh Hack-Book aka MBP5.2

Hello there,

Anyone having trouble with usb and Parallels?
I'm on 10.15.4, and I'm using Parallels 15.1.2 where I've win xp [sp3] to run a single program I need. My problem is Parallels isn't recognising my usb's, Parallels doesn't even ask if I want to attach usb stick to Mac or windows, nothing.

When I had Mojave and Parallels 14 it used to work quite well...

Had the same in linux and virtualbox and the solution was to add host username to vboxusers

would this be a Catalina or parallels problem or I'm missing something?
