Thanks for the quick reply! What version of Office? I am able to consistently reproduce this on my MBP6,2. Without amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1, Word 16.36 does not start. With amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1, Word 16.36 starts reliably. Not sure it matters, but I clear NVRAM when I make the boot-arg change.
I am still on 16.35 haven't updated yet

Interesting, though on my installation(s), I can start all programs (i.e. VLC, IINA, LTSpice, Parallels etc.) but just no M$ stuff... so I´ll skip to 10.15.5 now and hopefully get the Redmond-crap up and running again ;-)
Hello,
I know this is not a solution but I have found that after several unsuccessful launches of either one of the MS office programs from the Dock (or from the applications folder) the Office program finally opens (My case after the third try - with or without the the error popup - if so choose "ignore). Once one is open this way the others usually open at first try (if not repeat action described). Office will open "normally" thereafter until you shutdown and restart system when you need to redo "process". I have a MBP 8,2. (15" 2011). This has worked before I tried the "killall taskgated" which still had me do the workaround I describe. I saw in a prior post that someone mentioned that in the latest Catalina non Apple apps are located in Macbook../Data but be an absolute newbie I would not know what to look and change in terms of working out changes apart from a reinstall of MS Office. Any suggestions? Cheers

Timely post. I've found that MS Office 16.36 apps don't open for me without boot-arg 'amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1' (although I may not have been persistent enough if you're able to open eventually). Have you tried boot-arg = amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1?

I have had no luck with streaming Netflix in Safari as Silverlight from Microsoft is 32 bit which Catalina won't run as hasn't been updated from Microsoft for years

Patchupdaterd resides in a folder called sbin but don't know where it is exactly
[automerge]1586662825[/automerge]

have you tried running sudo killall taskgated in the terminal then try open a app if it fails to open try to open again usually it will open

It appears that after running that apps open normally, but I will still be testing that, thanks.

Yes I have the same issue with Safari as well but it happens at random but seems to work better after cleaning the history

Are you using the Catalina Patcher 1.4.1 to apply the post install patches

I reinstalled 10.14.15 (19E266) with Patcher 1.4.1 (by error I didn't download a new copy of macOS, just used the last one I installed with the last patcher. I will install the new version soon.

I'm not sure why you guys are having issue's with MS Office, I have never had an issue through all the beta's.
My installer is Microsoft_Office_16.16.20030700_Installer

I have had MS Office installed on my MBP6,2 since High Sierra (pre-patcher). I never had any issues with any macOS Mojave and Catalina upgrades until 10.15.4. It's possible that this is solved by removing and reinstalling MS Office on Catalina 10.15.4. If another solution is not found, I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we shouldn't expect any issues with Metal graphics. No?

I assume you are correct in this statement. I have an RX580 (Recommended Metal Capable GPU) in my MP51 and I’ve never had any MS Office issues like the one being discussed.

Just adding a datapoint supporting your line of thinking...

I'm pretty sure it will work. Let us ask @jackluke.
If you create an opencore bootloader on an external drive with his USBOpenCoreAPFSloader2.app you can test it. It won't do any harm. I find it a very useful boot loader to have, plus it has some extra tools like memorytest, and for me importantly, it can make OTA installation proceed on machines with outdated USB hardware, on external drives.

I tested it with @jackluke USBOpenCoreAPFSloader2.app and it worked. I can make a boot without any problem.

Here is the question?

If I make a full clean install Catalina and move this USB EFI to my Boot Drive EFI will it work?

@jackluke when I try to open config.plist on the USB EFI I am always getting this error WHY? is it not possible to open config.plist?

Edit: I found the problem. You have used two incorrect boolean parameters under Misc / Tools. You used the disabled instead of the false.

I assume you installed "vanilla" Catalina 10.15.4 on your MP51 without any DosDude patches (only needed -no_compat_check) - correct?

I used the Catalina Patcher v1.4.1 and selected “Install to this Machine”. I ran it without the APFS patch support as I knew I didn’t need that, but I left the other option about post install patches selected.

I asked earlier about if I should de-select this since I have a MP51 that’s fully updated (BT/WIFI, METAL, APFS Supported BootROM V144). No one ever replied to my request for information so I left it selected.

I’ve had no issues, so I guess it was the correct selection. If I’m wrong, then please let me know. I don’t really want any unneeded patches, but I love the fact that it survives an NVRAM reset (keeping the no_compat_check). At least it did the last time I checked on v. 10.15.3.

There are a couple of patches available when I look in the patch updater (nightshift, and something else) I never install those.

Sorry I didn't see and reply to your previous post. I installed Catalina 10.15.4 on my HackPro5,1 with Sapphire Pulse RX580 and didn't need any patches. My HackPro5,1 runs Catalina 10.15.4 with only the boot-arg -no_compat_check. I would expect your genuine MP5,1 installation to be the same (no patches with only -no_compat_check).

Does it survive an NVRAM reset on a CMP this way (not requiring to boot into a restore environment to re-enter the no_compat_check)?

EDIT: I just re-read your last post. If your MP5,1 -no_compat_check survives an NVRAM reset and everything is working, you should be fine. My HackPro5,1 is running Clover bootloader, so my NVRAM experience is different.

Hi! Nice to read your post. Had you flashed your gpu to get boot screen? You got updated boot ROM by installing Mojave? Thanks in advance! I ll buy a cMP5,1 soon...

My GPU is not flashed or altered. It's the stock firmware, I have very little need for the Pre-Boot Screens.

My bootrom is reconstructed from my personalized NVRAM intermediate files, and the base v144.0.0.0.0 firmware update included in Mojave. I don't use the Apple efiflasher to load my bootrom.

This seems slightly off topic here.

You can try opening you Activity Monitor in /Applications/Utilities folder for me photoanalysisd, adressbooksourcesysnc, and com.apple.siriembeddedspeech were using the most memory so up at the top at the wheel I clicked on that and ran system diagnostics. After I opened my photo's app no pictures so closed the pressed control-option while starting the app fixed the photo analysis, then went to /SystemPreferences/InternetAccounts/iCloud then uncheck Contacts fro syncing with iCloud and my system is running smooth
[automerge]1586875820[/automerge]

Did you try running sudo killall taskgated in the terminal

I have checked out and my activity monitor is clear, as i said, i only get like 5% CPU usage and still get the stutters :(

I have flashed official El Capitan, but i still get this issue, computer is slow, even though CPU usage is very low.

I guess this is hardware related not software... Nothing is loaded nor CPU, nor RAM, nor SSD, but i still get lag spikes unless i reset PRAM and SMC, only that solves issues until next restart...

Thank you for all your help @TimothyR734 , when I launch the first tccplus I have this :

Do you know if there is an alternative by terminal for example? Zoom is really necessary for my work, without this unfortunately I will have to go back to High Sierra :/

Hello,
I can confirm also that Office (2019) will open with the same "relaunch" procedure described without terminal commands or NVRAM (and haven't resolved the problem in my case). The NVRAM also could pose a problem for the latter on the MBP 8,2 - 2011 "infected" with the defective dGPU using the software-based go-around described amply in this forum. BTW a reinstall of Office did not solve the problem either. Cheers

No, OpenGL patch is fine for M$ Office 2019, rev. 16.35 and 16.36 (latest). Metal not (yet) needed! We had some issues here with eGPU on unsupported machines where in 16.34 (or earlier) everything was ok, except block-selections of text would scramble contents on screen - unless moving the window back to the internal MacBook screen! But that was solved by 16.35 and later.

btw, I re-issued the code signing with my own developer key and now all programs from M$ start fine again!
This can be done with terminal entry i.e.
sudo codesign -fs <your private key> /Applications/Microsoft\ Word.app

Edit: I found the problem. You have used two incorrect boolean parameters under Misc / Tools. You used the disabled instead of the false.

If you copy the EFI folder content in your boot drive it works on a stock Catalina install, but you have anyway to apply at least the post-install patches for Audio, Wifi and Video patches.

Those Misc Tools are just some additional tests that I removed, but for xcode plist compliant should use false instead of disabled.
