Hi all

I have a iMac 8,1 and I think 10.6.8 was the max I updated it to. I followed the instructions and now I am stuck in a boot loop, failing the second phase of installation. I tried rebooting holding options and booted into efi boot with a disk logo on it. It appeared to be installing with time remaining and everything but i ended up with a error message that i cannot install catalina on the computer and when i restarted again, I now have a broken installer and cant even mount my hard drive. I do not have another mac. Is there anything else i can do or is my mac dead.

Not sure about the necessity of steps 1 and 2 - depends on your starting point.
I dont have any macOS on MacBook Pro5,1 now (and on any other computers), only Windows 10 on MacBook and Windows 7 on PC and Notebooks. Other words, I can't create bootable USB for HS or other macOS, I have only install DVD with 10.7.4.

Check for internet recovery - this should/could give you back the latest supported MacOS.

"Any port in the storm."

Lion should allow you to create any patcher you want.

I did the upgrade last night on a MacPro3,1 from El Capitan. A lot of apps are crashing with the same exception type [EXC_CRASH (Code Signature Invalid) Namespace CODESIGNING, Code 0x1 ]

Google Chrome
TechToolPro12
CleanMyMac X
Parallels Desktop

I went back and updated the latest versions (especially Parallels and CleanMyMac to the Catalina versions.

Also, I have a Sapphire 7950 card and seeing some funny things with the graphics. It is most notable open the tabs in Safari. They don't draw well or the go to dark node from light node. I am running in light mode.

Has anybody seen these same issues?

(I'm quite busy right now, so don't be put off if I don't get back to you for a day or two - I'll respond when I can.)
Thanks a lot for your help (and @hvds too). Dont' worry, I'll be patient and wait without complaining :D

I've tried installing python 3.8 and now I get the "Illegal..." just trying to execute Python o_O so I think I'll try the MouSSE beta just when you can, thanks

For anyone who needs Chinese input, I found this open-source IME called RIME (中州韻輸入法引擎), Squirrel is the name they gave for their macOS version. It's very customisable and it's easy to navigate its files.
https://rime.im

And for Japanese, don't forget Google's IME. It's actually ok.
https://www.google.co.jp/ime/

Fortunately, Korean Hanja conversion seems to work fine.
Unfortunately, I'll never be able to enable Safari ad-blocker, so I hope I'm "helping" the world or something (no ad-blocker sucks)

I replaced the 3rd-party icons with system ones, then messed with the localisation files. It was nice.

Maybe someone of you uses the old external iSight (connected with a FireWire 400 cable)?

Since the update to 10.15.4 I still get a video signal for FaceTime, but the microphone of the iSight no longer appears in the video settings of FaceTime.

Is this maybe a problem that can be fixed or is FireWire support in macOS decreasing?

I recently found that you can no longer boot from external FireWire hard drives, for example. That's a shame!

Hello,
i have read a lot of post , but a I am still clueless.
But first things first :D

I have a Mac Pro 3.1
Its running a Quad Core 2.8 Ghz CPU and 6 GB of Ram (I have ordered some more, but its not delivered yet )
Graphic card is the pre build 2600XT but I have a GT 120 as spare (I need DP ).

At the moment the system is running El Capitan fine, but I want 10.14 or 10.15 (I don't care which one)

I am able to create the installer für Mojave ie. Catalina Patcher , the USB Stick is created fine in both situations.

But none of those sticks gets me to an installation screen.

It gets to the booting apple logo and afterwards its Stuck.

Things I tried already :

Different USB Sticks .
APFS Rom Patcher (Its patched at the moment)
Both Graphic Boards (not both at the same time ;-) )
Different Hard Drives.
Booting the stick with cmd + v (verbose)
Error message says something like "launchd exited with error"

Somebody has an idea what to do ?

Make sure you're using the latest Catalina installer app (15.4.02), along with the latest Catalina Patcher version (1.4.3). This is necessary to get a working USB installer.

I had no idea that @0403979 made a macOS patcher!? I thought dosdude was the only one.
I seen "Fix Japanese Input" patch and I got very excited…so what's the difference between the 2 patchers?
And why no collaboration? Also I can't believe he's a Swiss 14 y/o :O *automatic Apple job offer :)*

I'm already on 1.4.3. If anyone wants to weigh on their opinion of a comparison of the 2, that'd be great. No competition here…I'm a consumer in this case.

Hi, 3.3.5 was the one that actually added the patch and 3.3.6 was just to fix an oversight with it (quite an important one). As for the main differences, here's a very basic summary:

macOS Catalina Patcher
- Supports installing to this machine
- Supports creating an installer ISO (can be done manually with macOS Patcher)
- Uses a nice, clean graphical user interface

macOS Patcher
- Supports the MacBook4,1
- Supports Recovery mode on Catalina (can be done manually with macOS Catalina Patcher)
- Uses a more customizable shell script

Important Notice! Please begin updating all your clients to Zoom 5.0 now. After May 30, 2020, all Zoom clients on older versions will receive a forced upgrade when trying to join meetings as GCM Encryption will be fully enabled across the Zoom platform. Click here for more information.
Well, this sucks. I know one can "Join from browser" for classes, but it still sucks. The academic year should finish up before June anyway, at least here. I doubt there is a way to tell Zoom: "I have a very old GPU…change your instructions, thank you"

Indeed, downgrading was the only way to get the camera back in zoom
On May 31, 2020, the Zoom V1 APIs will be permanently shut down/terminated and will no longer be in operation.

To prevent service interruptions, you must migrate to the Zoom v2 APIs.

Migrate your business automations onto our more advanced/secure v2 APIs, and ensure your Zoom integrations continue operating normally. As an added benefit, once you migrate, you’ll have access to developer support, a much broader library of APIs, webhooks, and more!

No exceptions will be made and Zoom Customer Support will be unable to assist you if you do not migrate before the deadline.
Anyone with non-Metal GPUs will lose access to Zoom at the end of this month since they're stuck on version 4.5.9, so I guess we'll have to use our phone if we don't have a supported Mac. It's because they want to implement AES 256-bit GCM encryption…y'know, because of all the classes being zoom-bombed

Not good.... Any chance we will see any stable workaround to that?

I just released a new version of MouSSE, which includes some statistics that might be helpful. Once you get it installed, if you're still having Illegal Hardware Instruction issues, PM me and I'll see if I can help.

Anyone know how to upgrade the video card of

Model Identifier: iMac11,1
with an ATI Radeon HD 4850

to something (cheap) that is supported?

The chance of that likely rests on people in this forum, who'd be willing to modify the Zoom.us app plugin. The chance is not 0 surprisingly, people know all sorts of really niche software things on these forums.
Irrelevant, but there's a lot of cool stuff like this, that I won't find in any university CS degree. It just became very apparent, because I'm a final year high school student that'll probably end up in CS. Hopefully, I'll gain more confidence in coding (not bad to-do list apps) and start working on these sorts of projects. I'm pretty sure there's always the one kid who asks "When are we making an iOS app?" only to be hit with boolean algebra, history of computing, pure C & Assembly etc…

Edit: I was just joking about this an hour ago and @dosdude1 just came along and patched it. Thank you so much! This makes classes easier…I know it's not top priority, but I'd love to see fixes for Chinese & Japanese IMEs 🇨🇳🇹🇼🇭🇰🇯🇵 (and whatever is preventing us enabling the Safari Extensions check-boxes) – everything else is perfect! (^○^) (except for AirDrop & All Photos option in Libraries), we are running stable!
To apply this patch to your own Zoom install, download the attached script (zoomnonmetal.sh.zip), extract it, and run it as follows using Terminal:
chmod +x /path/to/zoomnonmetal.sh /path/to/zoomnonmetal.sh
