As for the verbose text from the software APFS Patch:
First try in system settings->startup disk to select your disk again. This should keep it from going via EFI during boot.

You could do more and remove a left-over from the time where you didn't have the APFS ROM patch applied:
- in terminal do diskutil list and find the identifier of the EFI partition (likely disk0s1, see output from my system appended as example)
- sudo mkdir /Volumes/efi (error message should this volume already exist - ignore)
- sudo mount -t msdos /dev/disk0s1 /Volumes/efi
then on the desktop you should see a drive named EFI. Open in Finder, and remove just the "BOOT" folder and "apfs.efi".

As for the sleep failure when closing the lid, I can just guess. Does it also happen when putting it to sleep from the Apple menu?
I had that a while ago often in Mojave. It helped to always use the faster of the two GPUs (9600M GT instead of 9400M). Hope your MBP5,1 has the same GPU hardware as MBP5,2.
In system settings->energy saver choose higher performance; need to logout/login after that, and then a reboot, for this to take effect. When resetting NVRAM though, the default 9400M will be used again, and 9600M GT needs to be selected again.
My MBP5,2 runs better and very reliably (no unexpected shutdowns at all) with the 9600M GT. Using it is highly recommended...

I'm quite confident that my good old MBP5,2 17" will make it for at least one more year!
Thanks again for your input and sorry for the delayed answer.
Catalina 10.15.5 now running like a charm on my MBP5.1. Since activating the dedicated GPU, sleep mode also by closing the lid's working fine. The text output while booting disappeared by itself, don't know why, but I'm happy it did :D
The only thing which is kind of strange is the wireless network adapter, showing connection speed of 21.6Mbit/s, which is kind of strange, internet speed tests showing 110000kbit/s while network card showing connection speed of 21MBit/s.
Any fix or idea for this?

Thank you so much for your great work and help!!

Another Mini3,1 success via latest patcher v.1.4.4 on USB. Remember to update MRT to 1.61, the macOS installer provides 1.58.

I'm almost sure that with @dosdude1 , @ASentientBot and all the skilled patcher team we will also have macOS 10.16 working since betas on our ten years old macminis ? Catalina works every day better... I can still use Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04 on VMware fusion!!!

I am trying to update my 2009 MBP on 10.15.3 to the latest version. I installed latest patcher, downloaded copy, and selecting "Install to this Computer" It goes through patch and copy process then after some time, starts the patched installer. Installer then says will restart after about a minute or so, then it just boots back into my 10.15.3 like nothing happened.

I've tried to "install to this computer" in the past and same results. Doing the USB installer works, but looking to avoid doing the update that way.
From my understanding this won't work. If you want a newer version that 10.15.3 you'll allways need to do a full install.

If i'm wrong, please correct me, but an incremental update like from 10.15.3 to 10.15.5 never worked for me.

10.16 will be a challenge as major changes could limit the CoreDuo, MCP79s to Catalina, forever?

@dosdude1 Installed Catalina 10.15.5 on a 2010 Mac Pro with a AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT flashed by MacVidCards. The install was successful, but after the install, it continues to restart with this error each time, instead of going to the user setup screen. It works fine with a GTX 680, but wondering why it's giving this error with the 5700 XT.

Thoughts?
My MBP 8,2 made the same error. Ran post install and removed some of the tick marks. Worked for me.

The cheaper route that I used was to order a BCM9436CD iMac card off of eBay like...

For Broadcom BCM94360CD pc wifi Card 802.11ac WiFi BT4.0 for 27"iMac AirPort

and a version 3.0 Mini PCI-E Adapter for BCM94360CD/BCM94331CD

Mini PCI-E Adapter for BCM94360CD/BCM94331CD Upgrade to Version 3.0

The installation instructions at MP 1,1-5,1 WiFi Card for Mac Pro 3,1? and Installing 802.11 A B G N AC + Bluetooth 4.0 Airport Card in Mac Pro 2008 (& 2006) cover the installation using the v3.0 adapter card and the antenna connections. Note that the version 3.0 card places the antenna connections facing the motherboard so you want to connect them prior to seating the adapter card on the motherboard.

I receive the Card this morning and try to install. I only managed to connect the old Bluetooth cable from the original bluetooth card which I removed on the J3 connector of the new card which is supposed to be the one for BT. I had problems connecting the 3 other wifi antennas so I decided to connect the card and wait for a better time for the antennas install. After reboot, the new card is recognized in the system report but I notice two things : Bluetooth is said ACTIVE but a JBL speaker which was seen by the old card couldn't be seen now so I am not sure the J3 connector is the good one ?????????? The second thing is strange : even with no connecting of the 3 wifi antennas, Wi-Fi seems to work and is recognized in the Network system PrefsPane. Is that possible ???????

i have read that for iOS 14 Apple will be conservative. All devices running iOS 13 will be OK. People are avoiding unneeded expenses this year. Maybe all Macs running Catalina will also run 10.16?

I have order this card : http://www.osxwifi.com/product/mac-...94360cd-802-11-a-b-g-n-ac-with-bluetooth-4-0/
I will have to remove the stock Bluetooth card and I already found inside the MacPro the 3 other antennas cables necessary for the installation. I will share my experiences after the install.

Or just use a Bluetooth dongle.

I have Azio dongles plugged-in to my 2008 Aluminum Macbook and late 2012 Mac Mini. They override the built-in Bluetooth. They give me AptX support for my Sennheiser headphones as well as Handoff.

There are a zillion brands of this, I've had good luck with Azio. Just search for CSR8510 A10 About ten bucks now.

Probably should look into a newer dongle with support for later standards, but works fine with my headset.

If you have a spare usb about 1GB format it extended-journaled then unzip the USBOpenCoreApfsloader2 zip run and follow the instructions. Then install the update when you see the black screen with the Apple logo and progress bar once it reboots hold the option button boot into the USBOpenCore and in the menu select the one that says macOS install then once it finishes and restarts then apply the post install patches

With the help of @jackluke, I was able to add Airdrop to my aging 2010 15" MBP6,2 (10.15.5.2) with a USB 4.0 Bluetooth dongle and these instructions here: page-229

Unfortunately, Unlock with Apple Watch doesn't work. You need Bluetooth 4.0 AND WiFi 802.11ac. A question for all you technical wizards. Would I be able to add a WiFi 802.11ac USB dongle (Like This) to use with "Unlock with Apple Watch"?

I supposed that in the 10.15.5 update, this two problems would be solved:

- Some applications can't run (the most important for me is Google chrome)

- The camera in the "face time" application is not working in a macbook 5.2 (It is working in a imac 7.1 and a macbook 5.1). It is strange, because in the same macbook the camera works perfectly in "Photo booth", but doesn't works in facetime.

I installed the update today to check if this problems were solved and I noticed that I can still see both problems.

Anybody knows any solution for them?

Might this post be the key for any of the two problems?

"Remember to update MRT to 1.61, the macOS installer provides 1.58." ¿how can I do it?

Thanks

Unzip and drop this into the Application or Utilities ƒ, when run it will check your Apple defenses, will notify and/or install the updates as you require.

Edit: I got this figured out from this post. Thanks @jackluke

My MBP 6.2 isn't allowing permissions for Zoom. I downloading it from Zoom's site, it recommenced installing version suitable for my MBP but it won't show permissions.

View attachment 920990 View attachment 920991

I've found that this problem occurred after I updated using catalinaswufix. Then, I inspected the patch and I found that it modifies boot-args. After resetting boot-args I've got back my permission requests. Consequently, the problem occurs because of nvram boot-args contains amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1. If you reset your nvram boot-args by using sudo nvram boot-args="" your permission requests come back.

If you have your wifi router sitting right next to the MacPro, it might get a signal I guess but you definitely should connect the antennas. Try to center the male connectors over the female on the card and gently press while slightly rotating the male connector. When if attaches, you'll find that the male connector freely rotates on the female connector. As for BT, you have to remove the screw holding the old BT board and pull it off the motherboard. The old BT chipset can't be present at the same time as the new one on the BCM94360CD card.

FYI, regarding signal quality and strength with the BCM94360CD, my MacPro 3,1 sits about 3 feet away from a TP-Link Archer A7 AC1750 router through an intervening wall. Option clicking the wifi icon in the menu usually shows RSSI: -53 dBm, Noise -93 dBm, TX rate 975 Mbps for 5 GHz 802.11ac with 80 MHz channels. Optimally, you want the RSSI-Noise to be 40 dBm or higher for maximum bandwidth.

This worked perfectly. How come this isn't posted anywhere? I couldn't find this info anywhere. I am now on latest version on my 2009 MBP.

Using a 5,1 with updated WiFi/BLE, RX580 (flashed) and M2 based pCIE system drive plus other stuff. Apart from the DOSDUDE install gymnastics and white list patching, I only use the no_compat_check NVRAM setting. SIP is on!

The last two updates clearly have helped stability. I used to get crashes during sleep at night every other day but have not seen them. I can see we must be getting close to the 10.16 beta!

This will be irrelevant to 99% of people on this thread, but I don't know where else to share it.

You can disable "desktop tinting" by replacing SkyLight's _WSWindowChameleonColorCanChange with a simple "return false":
mov rax,0x0 ret

Hopefully that helps someone! I just happened to find it while disassembling SkyLight for other reasons, and I remember a couple people being annoyed by the feature.
