My Catalina is fully working. Only issue is the ZOOM camera issue and neither of the patches work.

from the first post:

Pre-Metal AMD video cards (Radeon HD 6xxx series and older without acceleration, Radeon HD 4xxx series and older with acceleration.)

I have no idea whether a 6970M has acceleration, but I can tell you my system is working fine.

@RollingRocker but you have to notice whether your 6970 has Radeon graphics support or not?
You notice that when you scroll on a page or when the graphics are jerky, etc.
Is that the case with you? If everything runs smoothly and smoothly, then you have full graphics support

when I scroll this page up and down on the mac it is not perfectly fluid... my high end windows 10 PC with 1070 VC is smoother but not perfectly smooth on a 4k monitor.

would limited graphics support be why the camera isn't working on ZOOM or are these 2 different issues?

Jerky graphics, no transparency=no acceleration support. ZOOM not working=lack of metal support. You can, perhaps, install an old version of zoom?

Yes, now I see that you @RollingRocker are still a beginner ... and yes, NOW you see that you have no graphics support at all, it is not meant badly but a bit embarrassing. Ok, the experienced @LuisN is right that there is actually no solution with the Radeon 6xxx and also the 5xxx to achieve full graphics support in Mojave and Catalina. And without it it is really no fun to work with it.

Yes, and what do I do now with the Imac 12.2 in mid 2011 that I bought used? just run old High Sierra on it? no, I really didn't want that. Then it must be disposed of or what is written here, replace the AMD Radeon graphics card with an MXM nVidia or something ... but much too complex, I think.

Now you can see the advantage of hackintosh (although frowned upon here) with the latest hardware (graphics, processor and and and) have a clear advantage and even better performance than some new iMacs.

You can upgrade iMac 2011 to a metal GPU and flash it.

hello @LuisN ... but if the AMD Radeon 6970M is running at @RollingRocker why does it work with
him and with my iMac 12.2 it shouldn't work? I don't understand now.
It is running, but slowly and with a lot of side effects you cannot detect within the first hour of using Catalina after the installation. There is still no graphics acceleration and no metal - I do not understand why you cannot simply change the GPU - this is an iMac option only. You have the choice, the 2011 MacBook owners have to stick with their disabled 6xxx Gpu and the HD3000 all the time.

@ Endurance athletes ... yes with a MacBook it is possible to deactivate a graphic and to use Intel HD3000,
I do that on an MSI Mac (Hack) Book too and works fine but with an iMac it does not work.
And simply replace the GPU, then read the whole thing in the link above,
far too complicated and also costs additional money.

Yes. And it works like charm just with the HD3000.

Hello everybody! I have a Macbook Pro 2011 13'' and I'm trying to install dosdude1's Catalina but always get the error: this copy of the install macos catalina application is damaged, and can't be used to install macOS.
I have downloaded 3 times the latest version of the patcher (1.4.4) and so the latest Catalina version from that same patcher (10.15.6). Does somebody know how to make it work? Thank you in advance!

Hi people, work around for the apps not being shown in "Security & Privacy", just run the app (zoom, messenger, etc) as root from terminal;

sudo /Applications/zoom.us.app/Contents/MacOS/zoom.us

The root cause is clear in the error output, so hopefully we can research a permanent fix soon

Did anybody install Homebrew successfully on Catalina patched OS? Some things do not work for me on MacBookPro5,2: for example, it complains test failed (probably on openssl) when I try to install python - but rest packages are installable and runnable. I install Homebrew in home directory.
Just a little heads-up, I've updated my post here: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...unsupported-macs-thread.2121473/post-27026470

Basically if you set "0.0.0.0 homebrew.bintray.com" in /etc/hosts, set the compilation target to ":core" in hardware.rb, and run the oneliner commands mentioned there, instead of brew's own directly, you can keep using homebrew.

Hi dear. It's very weird to me, cuz I have Parallels Toolbox, and I ran tccutil reset microphone, to remove all apps permissions, and when I opened Parallels Toolbox Audio Recorder, the app asks for microphone access, and it was added to the list. But this don't work with zoom, Skype, Brave Browser, etc... I think may be app development issue? My SIP is disabled. I'm on MBP8,3 Catalina 10.15.5.

UPDATE: updating to 10.15.6 via Dosdude1 patcher, resolved the issue. But, AMFI boot arg need to be reset, despite nvram command appears to show it's all ok with the parameter.

Nothing against hackintosh per se but it is a very, very poor man's choice(or a rich man's choice who is hating Apple for whatever reason). Either way you cannot brush off the optimization.

Throwing together a powerful hardware is a concept that even a monkey can come up with. The world is much more competitive than this and only the very best concepts will ultimately stand the test of time.

Youtuber Luke Miani bought a hackintosh and made a video about it. Guess what? Nothing spectacular about its performance and probably a huge power bill. So, like I said, a $500-1000 saving in a grand scheme of things makes any sense only to a somebody who is on extremely low budget.

I get it that most people like to support the underdog but this sentiment does not change the facts. Sorry for the off-topic but I feel that it is important to "clear the air" as this seems to be a recurring subject in the "unsupported" threads.

Disable SIP from a recovery partition using the csrutil disable command, then try your installation again.

And also check nvram -p in the terminal you might need nvram boot-args="-no_compat_check" in the terminal also you can use the install to this machine method to from with in the Catalina Patcher as long as you have a usb Catalina patcher to apply the post install patches

I may have posted this in the wrong section before. lil help?
Hi guys. first post, sorry if its a long one but here goes.

- trying to use the patch to install catalina from dosdude.
- i have a mid 09 macbook pro, it is listed as a working patchable computer.
- i installed a 250g SSD and 2 4G RAM at the same time in 2015 and updated the OS back then, haven't sense, i think its Yosemite.
- Im using a lexar 32 g USB flash drive.
- ive tried going thru the steps 2 times now, downloading the patch on it, reformatted it to boot from, even watched the tutorial video to make sure i didn't miss something.
- each time i get to the same place where im starting the computer holding the option button but the only option that comes up is the HD, the computer doesn't recognize the USB drive to boot from like in the guide.
- the USB drive is listed in folder and the catalina installer looks to be on it ok....

after giving up, i tried to reformat the stick back to watch movies on a sony tv/android box. but the tv wouldn't see it until i reformatted the USB with the actual TV and now it works fine. its been years since i originally formatted it to work (fat32 i beleive) and used the same computer to do so originally.

I would still like to try and upgrade the OS but not sure what to try now, but since I had trouble formatting the USB on the way back, maybe something is wrong with the macbook itself?

any suggestions or thoughts would be much appreciated.

thanks

Does anyone know what page the patcher is on? I have been looking for a while and have not found it or if you could link it below that would be awesome.

Is the USB formatted with the GUID partition scheme and HFS+ with journaling?
