well. The point is, in my 2011 iMac 27 'I have a k1000 graphics card but with the Catalina 15.6 system working, but after setting the startup disk I have a black screen when switching on. gong is heard. I have to switch on with ALT for the screen to turn on.
This does not change anything, please read the post and make the changes according the guide linked there. This is a new Catalina issue introduced with 10.15.4, but only seen on GPU modded systems, for that reason you will find the solution on the GPU thread. Possibly it is gone with the latest version, but we cannot check each and every combination of card and system and OS version on the market.

Possibly the wrong thread, read the first post mentioned in my signature and search for black screen there...additionally the power supply of an 21.5" is barely able to provide the power, the heat sink of an 21.5 is not able to transport the heat outside the machine. You will not have a stable system, possibly not have real long living GPU. We warned about doing this in the very same post.

Thanks for your reply. I will read that thread of your signature to see if I find a solution.

Just did on my MP5,1 Mojave to Catalina 10.15.5 using @dosdue1 1.4.4 patcher and extensions are working in Safari.

Thanks @dosdue1 for great job, donation sent!

How do I upgrade from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6? Do I need to go through bootable USB again or can just run install from the hard drive? I would obviously would prefer not to have to switch the graphic cards, as I have no way otherwise triggering the startup menu RX 580 graphic card.

Just tried installing the upgrade from "this machine" and I get the following warning:
"The file “Preboot” is located on the root of “MY HDD”. If you continue installing, this file will be deleted."

Is it safe to proceed at this point...?

I can't even get the Catalina installer to download, I get an error "Could not locate the correct entry in the CatalogURL. Cannot continue" Any ideas? Do you have to be in the developer program just to download the installer?

EDIT - Worked on another machine. I tried to download on a MacBook Air Mid 2012 and it gave this error. No Error on a Mid 2013 MBA.

Hi.. I have experience the same as you did.. I get the same error message. Did you solve the problem ? Please share the solution. Thank you

Please guys, help. My iMac is a mid 2011 21” 28GB 1TB SSD Nvidia GTX 765m 2GB. It was working seamless and perfectly with Mojave (used dosdude1 patcher). Yesterday I decided to update to Catalina. I was using dosdude1’s patcher version 1.4.4 and a Catalina 10.15.6 copy. I installed on a USB pendrive. Ok, all good. Booted up, formatted my SSD and installed a fresh copy. It finishes the installation and it restarts. But now I got just a black screen, the screen does not turn on. when press keys on the keyboard I can hear sound from the iMac. I did PRAM (CMD+Option+p+r) and it restarts again. I hear the typical boot chime sound but still black screen. What happened? why my screen does not turn on? Is not Catalina the same thing as Mojave in terms of video card compatibility? I tried using a 10.15.0 Catalina copy but the patcher can’t finish the installation and gets stuck. I’ll appreciate any help. Thanks.

did you apply the post install patches? Did you check if your model is compatible with the @dosdude1 patch?

Yes, the default for my iMac model (12,1). Looking here I found in thread 145 that user jhowrath replied to a guy with I think has the same problem as me (with same machine and video card model as mine). But I don’t understand the solution that jhowarth proposed. Can you check that thread up and try to help me understand it?

Thank you! I did as you instructed, and Catalina booted properly. It seems as though Dosdude’s patcher is indeed patching with legacy video drivers on an iMac with an upgraded video card. Wholeheartedly agree that auto patching should be disabled. But I’m thrilled to have a work around.
This is the thread imof referring to but can’t understand it well.. Im using the last patcher version, but I don’t know if that issue applies to a new version or if new patcher versions still has this issue..

No need to change card or use USB -just use"install to this machine"

This is a known issue for GPU modded iMacs. Look at the post in my signature, search for black screen there, install the kernel extension you find there to /S/L/E using the known methods...

And you can always fire up the internal LCD using alt/option on boot. This is the work around until you have fixed it.

Hello all,

I’ve been using @dosdude1 catalina patcher on my 13” Macbook Pro late 2011 - 16gb ram, 250gb ssd and Intel hd3000 graphic card (512mb).
I’m now at 10.15.5 (possibly will update to latest 10.15.6, but not considering BigSur ( I think in next years software will need more and more Metal capable graphic cards )

My mac runs fine, everything works except the fans spining hight when using Safari (with Opera usually nothing happens) or Photoshop.

In the last few days I read @trifero replying to another user this “ If you disabled, as you should, the discrete GPU” and now I’m confused since I did not disabled mine.

So my questions are:

Should I disable the discrete GPU?

Why?

What are the pros versus cons?

Will this be the reason for the fans hight spining?

Will I lost my mini display port to a second monitor ( I really need the second monitor )

Will it be possible to re-enable the discrete GPU if needed?

Sorry for asking so much, but I don’t even know what is this discrete GPU...
Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your help. I’m searching clicking on your name (Ausdauersportler) but you have many posts with “black screen”. Can you post the link? I’m not used to this forum.

Stay with 10.15.6 and use the patched extension. Installation in the same way you did with the sleep extensions....The problem came up with 10.15.4
Thank you again for helping, but I dont know how to use hackintool. Can you tell me where I drop the AGC file on?
