Round in circles... not really IMHO... I did generate a new EFI with moderate spoofing settings and rebooted into Catalina.... The "dortiana1,1" pseudo model doesn't allow this Security update to proceed. I'll read the thread you suggested and report later. Thank you.
I was digging around in the installer logs and found:
2021-08-18 23:03:43+02 Installer[3112]: Package Authoring Error: Package contains system volume install location content. Installation cannot proceed since installing to the system volume is not possible.
2021-08-18 23:03:43+02 Installer[3112]: Package Authoring Error: Package contains system volume install location content, and installation will fail: Error Domain=IFInstallErrorDomain Code=-6000 "This package is incompatible with this version of macOS." UserInfo={NSLocalizedRecoveryOptions=(
etc,....
Which made me check the SIP setting,.. which is enabled,... going to try to disable that previoos to the package install and see what gives...

Edit:
Nope:
1) csrutil disable via OCLP GUI.... no go.
2) csrutil via recovery boot:... weird result from csrutil status after reboot:
csrutil status:

System Integrity Protection status: unknown (Custom Configuration).
Configuration:
Apple Internal: disabled
Kext Signing: disabled
Filesystem Protections: disabled
Debugging Restrictions: disabled
DTrace Restrictions: disabled
NVRAM Protections: disabled
BaseSystem Verification: enabled
This is an unsupported configuration, likely to break in the future and leave your machine in an unknown state.

and no go.

Another successful CatalinaOTAAswufix update to macOS Catalina 10.15.7 (19H1323) on my Late 2009 iMac 27 i7 16GB RAM 1TB SSD Samsung 860.

It did take several tries to get CatalinaOTAAswufix to patch the update. On a hunch, I tried running Silent Knight 115 and found that a couple of things were out-of-date and as soon as those were updated, CatalinaOTAswufix finally worked! I'm not completely sure Silent Knight fixed the issue, but I'll take it for now, as I have 19H1323 up and running!
🚧 If a CatalinaOTAswufix.app update fails, go to /Library/Updates 📁 and delete everything within and re-try. Only a few get it right on the first attempt.🎯The most common user-error seems to be not applying the <OTAswFix> button early-on in the download. Also, SilentKnight is a great tool as it aggressively checks for updates and pulls in MRT and X-Protect changes, as well. 😎

Thanks for all the pointer and suggestions: It seems to have been a CatalinaOTAswufix issue.

So, Fixed. Running the Catalina Security 2021-004 update now and having the option to install Monterey on this Macpro5,1 with OCLP 0.2.4.

I have the problem with Catalina crashing and restarting in sleep mode on MacBook Pro 2008 and 15" MacBook Pro 2009. Is there any fix for this?

Apply SMC reset(s). Last resort, re-install dosdude1 patches and Force Cache Rebuild. Battery condition can effect stability. FWIW
Thank you for your answer! I did all of these things and none of them helped. But I managed to install Big Sur 11.2.3 on both machines with OCLP and the Non-Metal GPU Acceleration Patches. Both machines work absolutely great now and there are no more problems with sleep mode! I'm so grateful to the developers who made this possible! 🥳

Congrats on BS. Suggest at least 6GB RAM for useful performance. If BS starts to fall apart, replace the SATA cable(s) to the SSDs. A very common h/w issue w/MB of our vintage, see last entry in signature.🧐

Thank you! :) Actually BS runs well enough on the 2008 MBP with 4GB, but i will max it out anyway. Yes, I have already replaced the SATA cable of the 2009 MBP with a new one from ifixit. It is expensive, but it's less of a headache than ordering a used one from ebay that will either be faulty from the start or will fail soon.

A strip of electrical tape where the SATA cable rubs against the housing is inexpensive insurance, if the CDR is still in use. 🧐

Hi there!
I’ve been running Mojave and Catalina by @dosdude1 for a while, on a 3,1 MacPro. I mainly do music with Cubase and video with Final Cut.
Since latest updates, my Cubase won’t launch up, and I’ve tried everything (even a Catalina clean installation).
from Cubase support I get the track that it may be something on my gPu (GTX680) but they just don’t give any support due the machine is not supported any more.
As my last chance it would be changing my GPU, and attending to the need of video editing with Final Cut…
Is my MP 3,1 able to work with a different metal GPU (better than mine, if possible).
thank you in advance.

I know of at least one owner of a MacPro3,1 using a (modern, metal) AMD RX470 with (Mojave/Catalina)Big Sur and even Monterey Beta. So you need to search outside this thread for compatible video card options and outside this thread for different ways to install unsupported macOS versions (OpenCore is the keyword).

The RX470 has metal VideoToolBox support with recent versions of FinalCut. Cannot comment on Cubase. But there is a great external site about upgrading your family of MacPro systems.

Hello good afternoon!

First of all, I would like to thank all those responsible for creating these tools that allow us to continue using our old and beloved Macs!!!!

In my case, I have been using Catalina for more than a year on my MBP8,1 late 2011.

I recently decided to change my ssd from 240 to a 480.
After following all the steps I managed to install Catalina again but unfortunately I could not get Time Machine to lift my backup from the TimeCapsule and have everything as is.
So I did a clean installation and I was passing the backup info, but manually, and I reinstalled all the applications and configure the system parameters as I like.

After several attempts and panic screens, I managed to update to the latest version 19H1323.
For this to work I had to implement "cssrutil disable", reinstall the patches and then if the system rebooted and to my surprise, the latest version is working.

I was also able to get AirDrop and continuity working, with the info shared by @dosdude1, since I have bought and installed the wifi and Bluetooth board of an MBP2012.

So everything seemed to work perfectly, but unfortunately the camera and the Mic do not work for me with Zoom and WhatsApp.
The poster does not appear to give authorization.

If they work well for me with Skype, QuickTime or FaceTime.

With the csrutil status command I confirmed that SIP is disabled. Looking at this topic I read that it may not work for this reason.
But I am afraid to enable it and that the system won't pick up the next reboot.
I don't know how to do it either.

Has anyone happened to this?
I need help.

Thank you!

Use the TCCutil wrapper hotfix utility found somewhere in this thread to manually add the permissions.

I successfully updated to 19H1323 using the CatalinaOTAswufix.app and USBOpenCoreAPFSloader3.app .Had to run Dosdude1 Patcher, and Silent Knight a couple times to update.Running great so far. I like it.

I have updated to 19H1323 from 19H1217 thanks to CatalinaOTAswufix.app , however every time I reboot the system there is a Patch Updater prompt on re-installing patches, specifically "night shift" patch. I tried to re-install and reboot like 10 times already but the same prompt is coming back on every reboot. Any idea how to fix it?

From Silent Knight - should I install all updates?

Unfortunately there is no easy way to update EFI I believe. I would have to remove graphic card, put back original one and go back to some OS X to trigger this update. Too much hassle I think.

If you efi is working well no need to update. Just a suggestion.

Hi, thanks for answering, and sorry for my so late answer.
Just about Opencore, I'm trying to learn about it, but I'm confused. What I'm finding is information about Hackintosh stuff.
Why Opencore is the new "key" over Dosdude1 work? any advance, or better performance?

Kindest regards

The problem is I am getting this prompt all the time - I have re-installed it 10 times and still getting it:

Edit: nevermind, I run patch updater manually - reinstalled all patches and the Night Shift had to be reinstalled twice it seems and it seems resolved.

Thanks for answering!
After reading, I still see more benefits on dosdude1 over open core.
In fact, I own a MP 3.1 and there are some troubles with it using Open core...
Do you think I'm right?

kindest regards
If you are running Catalina, just sick to DOSDude1's Catalina Patcher.
It gives the best UI in the whole process of installation and patching.

For any macOS above Catalina, you need OCLP Patcher basing on OpenCore.

Well, in my Mac Pro 5,1 i have been running Catalina patched for many time, till I tried OC, some moths ago.

Now I have native updates, and things like "Unlock with Apple Watch", that never worked, works now like a charm.

Thank you so much for explaining.
By the way, I've just noticed that my Catalina version is the macOS 10.15.7 (19H2) and there are some updates that I'm not getting.
Do you know why my Catalina is not showing any update? any fix to apply?

Thank you in advance
