I used the OTAupdate fix then installed the Catalina security update 2021-005. After the update finished, cold booted into my Catalina patcher USB stick. In macOS Utilities, clicked on macOS Post Install then “Continue”.
The “Continue” button greyed out but nothing has happened. Seems that post install has hung.

Is there a way to push the post install patches ?

UPDATE: The installer log file has this error:

”macOS Post Install unable to obtain configuration from file:///Library/Preferences/com.Apple.ViewBridge.plist due to Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=260 “The file “com.Apple.ViewBridge.plist“ couldn’t be opened because there is no such file”.

Is this relevant ?

Ok. So say I'd like to switch to OCLP on the system currently running dosdude-patched Catalina, how would I go about it?
I've done that on a couple of systems and seemed to work fine, here's how I did it:

- Create OCLP with moderate SMBIOS spoofing option (and force metal GPU AMD/Nvidia if needed).
- Create a standard Catalina install usb stick

Then boot OCLP and use standard catalina usb install to overwrite existing dosdude patched Catalina (you won't loose any data as it's on a separate partition). You will need OCLP to boot newly installed catalina and things like iCloud may require you to reauthenticate because of SMBIOS spoofing.

To get rid of dosdude patch updater always prompting to reinstall patches, from terminal:

Code:
sudo launchctl remove com.dosdude1.PatchUpdater
sudo rm /Library/LaunchAgents/com.dosdude1.PatchUpdater.plist
sudo rm /usr/local/sbin/patchupdaterd

Then use standard software update to bring Catalina to latest version.

Of course, if you have important data, always backup before.

Can you provide further information? Why can´t you intall it?
Just more info.
I have updated my Macbook 7.1 to the latest (September, 13th) Security Update (19H1417) with no problems.
My MacPro still won't apply the update. I really do things on same way (the fact is that it works on my Macbook) but there must be something else there...
Any idea?

Using OTAupdate, I successfully installed the Catalina security update 2021-005 on my 2010 MBP. 👍

I think I have solved my own problem. In any event, I now have an iMac 11,1 running Catalina build 19H1417. But, it was a total pain.

At first my Catalina SSD would not mount in Disk Utility and, as mentioned, Post Install would not run. I went through a number of ideas which involved booting the iMac from the original OS X 10.6.2 Install DVD – the SSD was not visible so moved on and booted from an old Mojave-Patcher USB stick.

For some reason, the SSD was mounted and all looked good => decided that something was amiss with the Catalina-Patcher USB stick => recreated the Catalina-Patcher USB stick with a fresh download of the Catalina Patcher 1.4.4 (using an old MacBook).

Booted to the Catalina-Patcher USB stick and the SSD was mounted => Disk Utility First Aid (found no errors) => ran the Post Install to install relevant patches.

Tried to boot the iMac and it got into a boot=>crash=>boot=>report crash=>boot=>crash loop. So, booted from the Catalina Patcher USB stick and tried to reapply patches => "An error occurred while applying patches (1)" – that was at the point of applying the Legacy Video Card Patch.

So, turned off the Legacy Video Card patch and reapplied all the other patches. Then, this time, ticked the box to rebuild caches then booted the iMac. After a long startup up came the Desktop ! Seems that the lack of the ViewBridge plist was not relevant.

Many thanks to DosDude for the Patcher and jacklukem for CatalinaOTAswufix – and to all fellow "Patchers" out there who appreciate old Macs and are a great community of help and support.

Hi everyone. I haven't updated since 10.15.7 which was distributed via a full image and installed with the dosdude patcher. Now I wanted to install the latest security update on my Macbook Pro Mid 2009 and run CatalinaOTAswufix.app and then started the download of the update and also hit the Fix OTA update button. However, when I try to install, it just goes to the black screen with the install progress bar and after a minute it just boots normally again and the update wasn't applied. Did I miss anything necessary to do?

On the first post there is a spoiler tab with a link to a documentation post - read this post completely until the very end....

So, how do you use OCLP with Catalina? I've used OCLP to put Big Sur on my iMac 11,1, but the lack of a metal graphics card makes the experience a bit slow when compared with the Dosdude Catalina patcher.
The best thing would be starting with reading the current OCLP docs to get ready, the using the latest nightly build (TUI version in any case!) and play around with the enhanced patcher settings (5.). You will be surprised!

There is currently no support other than using the Discord server and no issue reports will be accepted! Give it a try. The best thing would be to start over with reinstalling the latest full installer on top of your current Catalina installation, install OpenCore through OCLP, boot OC and Catalina and then follow this instructions. You need to clean up the residues from the former patcher and than you might give the OCLP post install patching a chance.

AirPlay on SandyBridge needs QuickSync working.
QuickSync needs the Intel iGPU (HD3000) enabled.
OLCP disables the iGPU because we could not make it work on Big Sur (I only succeeded for legacy ATI GPU on BigSur). I have had no time to investigate the reason why it did not work using an K1100M using the same method.

Enabling the iGPU will break sleep unless you patch in the files @highvoltage12v collected (use the iMacPro1,1 version of the AppleIntelGraphicsSNB.kext). Patching means disabling SIP, disabling AMFI, difficult support for FileVault. A lot of it has been solved lately (last nights).

What is the point of trying this with OCLP?
You have already a method achieving this with the @dosdude1 patcher (with all pros and cons).

Officially there is no Mojave or Catalina support with OCLP although lately the graphics acceleration patches have been added for non metal graphics cards. So even if I/one could make it work it is not clear if it will be added to the OCLP main distribution.

I'm having an issue with granting Privacy privileges to applications in the Security Pref pane. Anything that was in there prior to upgrading to Catalina is fine. Any new app that requests access (for Example Slack to access the microphone). The app does not auto populate in the Privacy pane so it can't be checked.

the first solution listed in this doc solved it for me, but you will probably have to give everything access one more time,

Thanks @m0bil, for your post. I've just converted from dosdude1 Catalina to OCLP as well for Catalina-005 security update purpose on an iMac10,1. It went smoothly for most part. But when I try to setup the OCLP EFI on an internal FusionDrive, I got the following error for both the HDD and SSD:
####################
# Copying OpenCore #
####################

An error occurred!
0:188: execution error: Volume on disk1s1 failed to mount
Perhaps the operation is not supported (kDAReturnUnsupported)
If you think the volume is supported but damaged, try the "readOnly" option
Please report this to the devs at GitHub.

I've been playing around the OCLP recently on 3 iMacs and this is the first time I've ever seen this error.

It would be appreciated if someone like @khronokernel can shed some light on this issue.

Just noticed another issue: "The Software Updates for this Mac are managed externally" and "Unable to check for updates" after installing Catalina-005 security update. ???

PS. The dosdude1-Catalina was supper stable, being running for the last 7 months. But the CatalinaOTAswufix.app stuffed up my system (perhaps caused by not knowing the intricacies) so that I decided to migrate to OCLP-Catalina (and to preserve the existing data). OCLP is also very brilliant and it's running my iMac 13.2 with Monterey Beta 6 very smoothly.

1. If you cannot get it working on your fusion drive stick with an USB pen drive or SD card. There is no fusion drive support at all and as I already mentioned there is even no Catalina support by developers. You can always join the Discord server and ask questions there. But do not expect developer support...

2. Catalina Updates are only available if you configure the VMWare flags correctly and manually. Take a look and the first post of this thread. You can leave the flags when configured once. There is a small performance hit (some %).
