No it didn't work. I applied the patches with Video Card option selected but still doesn't work. Also, another question, it's not really connected to the Catalina patchers thread but I need to know this. My temperatures on HS with Macs fan control with rpm set from 3000-4500 (depending on tasks that I did) was around 27-50 (Not Fahrenheit, Celsius) when browsing the web, looking through photos, watching Youtube etc. and 50-70 when doing heavier tasks like some light video editing, photo editing and also these two tasks that after 5-10 minutes eat my processor: photoanalysisd and mediaanalysis. Sometimes it skyrocketed to a 100 when booting up the machine and seconds after it loaded the Macs Fan Control. On Catalina it's higher. 37-57 when doing the same tasks as in 27-50 HS and I wonder how hot it's gonna get when editing videos. But the question is: Is changing the thermal paste worth it and how much is it going to change? Like say from 37 to 27 something like that. That's a long post.

I need to ask again: How does this BootRom Update required for Catalina when my machine runs High Sierra natively work?? Where is that installed onto? The HDD? That wouldn't make sense right? I mean I have to format the HDD/SSD anyways before installing the OS on it, so who can explain to me how that works? In the tut, there is just a link to the install file..

I was wondering about this as well. But after reading an @Ausdauersportler 's post in another forum, I now seem to know that the BootRom is in the NVRAM. by updating the High Sierra to the latest version, it will automatically update the BootRom as well required for Catalina.
Others feel free to jump in to correct me if my understanding is not quite right 😅

for the sleepless issue, try manually putting your Mac to sleep once (wait for a bit over a minute).

Hm when it is installed automatically by updating High Sierra to its latest version, would it render this step redundant? I mean, everbody who needs Catalina on unsupported Macs, has then updated his or her Mac up until the latest possible version.. exept in rare cases someone stopped using the Mac before it became obsolete.. I know for sure I used mine til obsoletion, so it should have the update right? However Catalina doesn't install for me..

The rule is more simple:

You get the latest firmware (if you not have it already installed) by installing the latest supported macOS version on your system onto an internal disk - I never succeeded trying this with an (USB) external disk. Sometimes it needs even the latest update to get it, as on the iMac12,2 mid 2011 which is supported with High Sierra. Sometimes even this method fails and you need to start over for an unknown reason.

If you have a 2012+ system the latest supported macOS is Catalina and since Catalina is still supported you may get/see a final firmware update for those more recent systems within the next 12 month.

I do have an internal SSD using Mojave without APFS right now. Will it work when I use the .pkg now and install it? Will it automatically install onto the NVRAM not the SSD? Or does it make sense to install it onto the SSD? Because I will format the SSD anyways to install Catalina on it.. I have an iMac 10,1 (2010) that runs High Sierra natively.. I was quite sure I installed the latest version that was supported on it .. however Catalina on APFS wont work so far..

IMHO you do not need a boot rom update (APFS update) when your iMac10,1 (2009!!) has High Sierra support (which implies APFS support, too). SSD is fine.

Normally a @dosdude1 Catalina installation should/would convert the HFS+ into a APFS. Cannot really help here since I am using OCLP only even with Mojave and Catalina on my (metal GPU modded) iMacs (11,x and 12,x).

Ok, then I have no idea why Catalina is not working on my iMac 10,1...
it worked fine on my iMac 8,1 and Mojave worked fine on both..

Just wonder if you have followed dosdude1's installation instruction precisely: Apart from making the installation USB stick, the key is to boot up 1st with his EFI icon (a purple bluish EFI icon).....

You can also try OCLP Catalina and make sure the SMBIOS is set to Moderate and Catalina Acceleration is enabled in OCLP Patcher Settings 1st before building & Installing the OpenCore and applying Post-Install Volume Patch.

Just to be sure: If SilentKnight shows me old firmware for my patched MBP 8,1, the easiest way would be to remove my SSD, install a formatted hard disk, install High Sierra on it and replace it with my SSD again?

This is one way.
You can also try to create a 30GB temp. partitionen your SSD to hold a new temp. High Sierra installation. But I guess replacing the SSD with an HHD causes less work and trouble.

Hi, I have the same old EFI firmware on the same MBP 8,1.
Could you please post an update how you hvae done the update and if it was successful, if you are going to update the EFI firmware. :)

If the weather report is trustworthy, I'll have time for that in the next couple of days. Unfortunately those hard disks aren't here. I'll have a go with that partition. OCLP on the SSD will not come in my way, will it?

You wrote partition. I guess you meant ist. I tried to create a volume instead, which didn't work. I'll probably try a spare hard disk.

His page is good enough, particularly the video. I followed his video and successfully installed his Catalina on to my stock iMac10,1 (late 2009 21.5") 8 month ago.
Recently I've moved to OCLP because it's far easier to get the latest security update (2021-007) applied than dosdude1-Catalina for my iMac10,1, and the only way to get my iMac12,2 non-metal acceleration applied.

Hi all, here is a first report for my experience upgrading a MacbookPro5,4 last weekend.

Everything seems to work fine except for the following list of things (any help on any item much appreciated) :
  1. Laptop unpredictably shuts off when running on battery - like the battery was disconnected. System console does not seem to tell much apart from not recording shutdown.
  2. Closin the lid causes system crash and auto-reboot in recovery mode (from a recovery partition I have I believe).
  3. Most apps do experience regular crashes, especially on launch (Brave Browser, MS Office apps, Folx).

ad 3: Have you installed any security updates yet (Read the first post carefully to get OTA updates)? I may be wrong, but I think those problems disappeared for me at some point since the last full installer. If not, search after Chrome in this thread and you'll find help there.

ad 1 and 2: You applied the post-install patches after booting from your pen drive, right? Have your tried a SMC reset? If that doesn't help, we need one of the experts...

MBP4,1 Early 2008 17" update success, Build 19H1519 via SU 2021-007, no flaws.
SilentKnight delivered updates after that (MRT and iOS Device Support).

CatalinaOTAswufix/USBOpenCoreAPFSloader3/dosdude's patcher delivered as per usual.
