So the update worked now for me as well.. I overread that, as I now updated a machine that supports APFS natively I had to update the BootROM.. which I didnt know where to install as my new empty ssd was already built into the mac and the hdd already in the trash.. Where is this BootROM supposed to be installed on when the ssd is supposed to be deleted/formatted anyways?!?

So I used Journaled Extended instead. Will I have any disadvantages? I mean, the mojave version which is downloaded by the Patcher should be the newest anyways, so why should I even use APFS, who actually still installs system updates? There won't be system updates for mojave anymore anyways will it?

Also: I installed Mojave on my iMac 10,1 although I could install Catalina, but Mojave runs soo much smoother (even with the 8gb ram, and the ssd) However: Safari Youtube switching from full screen to small screen and reverse works really slow and makes the video stutter as well.. Also importing all my photos from the iPhone breaks up after only 300-400 photos anytime.. Barely a conveniant experience.. is that normal ??

Mojave still has a few updates left while Catalina is strongly supported by apple and for a couple more years.
as far as APFS and Catalina, I think the OS X runs much better (AND ONLY, I THOUGHT) under that format.
especially Safari 15, an di have 4GB of ram on the MacBook Air.
I do agree that Mojave is smoother and more responsive, but Catalina is packing a punch on our older Macs.

hoped this helped!

Catalina will be supported with system updates for approximately 1 more year—not a couple more years.
That is, unless you know something that the rest of us don’t… some secret Apple plan to extend the life of Catalina with security updates for longer than any of their preceding OSes? 🧐

wouldn’t that be nice…… 😇

If Apple was going to support one of their past OS's, it would have been Mojave. Mojave was the last to support 32 bit apps, and there are a lot of folks still running it for that reason. Apple will deep six Catalina in approx one more year, as you mentioned.

Hm would you recommend for me to install Catalina on my iMac10,1 with upgraded 8gb RAM + SSD? What would the advantages be?

In that case at least I will reinstall on APFS as apparently there are still updates for Mojave.. I thought it will only try to upgrade to Monterey when I choose software update...

And what about the BootRom Update? Where is that installed onto? The HDD? That wouldn't make sense right? I mean I have to format the HDD/SSD anyways before installing the OS on it, so who can explain to me how that works?

I know, that would be nice.

I read that Catalina will be supported a few more years (at least 2023) over the summer.
when (and if) I rewind the article, I will let everyone know
the premise was  know many users didn't jump to M1 globally this past year.
wanna say apple insider, but can't confirm

I keep seeing people complaining about not being able to enable Safari Extensions. It's been annoying me quite a bit too.

If you're comfortable with SIP being disabled (Catalina unsupported) and lldb (Developer Tools), you can get Safari Extensions to disable with some creative debugging.

Safari 15.0: (note that the number of instructions to step over changes with each release)

From Terminal, with SIP disabled (or just Debugging enabled)
$ lldb /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari

Set a breakpoint on the selector "canEnableExtensions".
(lldb) br s -S canEnableExtensions

Run Safari.
(lldb) r

Next, open the Safari Preferences -> Extensions.
DO NOT cover the Preferences window with any other windows, including the terminal while you are performing the following steps. If you need to shrink the Terminal window so there's no overlap, do it.

Click on the extension you want to enable.
You should get a (lldb) prompt back.

The next command steps over the next 20 instructions until we get a "je" instruction.
(lldb) ni -c 20

The next command forces this jump to be taken.
(lldb) register write rflags `$rflags|0x40`

Next, step over the next bunch of instructions to another "je" instruction.
(lldb) ni -c 14

Skip this jump:
(lldb) register write rflags `$rflags&~0x40`

Now, run at full speed...
(lldb) c

You should now get "Are you sure you want to turn on the extension" prompt.
Repeat these steps for each Extension.

Then quit Safari and run it normally until the next time you need to enable an extension.

Enjoy! (Works for me, your milage may vary.)

Thank you @OS9Hack for this. Problem solved.

MBP4,1 (Early 2008) Build 19H1511 running flawlessly.

I experienece a Safari-related issue, though, which was resolved in BigSur:
Safari 14 and Safari 15 prevent Safari Extensions to run: "Safari detected an app or service interfering with clicking."

The Apple solution to activate the extensions in Safe Mode does n o t work:

Does any fellow board member know, how to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.

I need to ask again. Mojave on unsupported Macs is not able to (neither iMac8,1, nor 10,1) import iphone images to the photos App. Beaks up after a few hundred.. than doesn't even initialise the process anymore..

Is that different with Catalina?

catalina and the importing from an iPad is iffy too
usually I need to replug the ipad to impart several photos,
and videos are hit or miss as well and quite worse

Mojave was stable, and windows 10 is flawless.

that is a shame
photos is a mundane program that never peaked

what I have is a 128GB lightning thumb drive I use to store photos, video and even play music on the iPad.
I know that is not a solution, but maybe a better tool for photo importing.
I also use iTunes files share as well for my PSD files to import cartoons.

Just installed the latest 2021-007 security update. The latest OCLP_v030 wouldn't allow Post_Install Volume Patch to be installed on my iMac12,2 due to "SecureBootModel" error (already set to False but it kept asking to have it disabled). In the end, I used a previous v030n release (7-Oct-21) to apply the PIVP.

Hey, I just wanted to ask what are the downsides of installing Catalina through the patcher on my 15 inch mid-2010 MBP (MacBookPro6,2) with the 2.66 GHz i7, 6 GB of ram, GT 330m and a SSD. And is 6 GB enough to run good? I'm currently on High Sierra and it's running pretty good. Sorry if my english is bad.

@dosdude1 Catalina Patcher still recommended. 🧐 6GB is minimum.

6 GB, is it going to run smoothly or not? And the camera, is it going to work? I heard that on some Macs the camera doesn't work, so wanted to confirm that my camera is going to work.
I've just updated my 6,2 to Catalina from patched Mojave. No issues.

EDIT: Zoom and Jitsi Meet didn't have access to camera and mic. Used tccplus with this wrapper. Now everything works.

tried to use this tccplus but always came back with "zsh: killed" in Terminal command, which also prevented to run the script. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried the script I added? Plain tccplus didn't work for me either.

EDIT: Just tried "tccplus Wrapper.app" on my 8,1. Got an error, to. Had succeeded some months ago, though. 🤷‍♂️

I have a big, fat problem. I did everything needed to install the patched Catalina. When I started installation on my external SSD I quickly ran into some problems. First of all: when the installation process was showing "9 minutes remaining" It freezed. I couldn't move with the trackpad and the progress bar wasn't moving. So I restarted the Macbook (2010 '15 i7 6 GB) and after holding the option key and going into the boot menu it freezed again. No disks were shown and the "choose your network" or someting like that was the only thing showing up. Again, I couldn't do anything. I tried booting normally without anything and High Sierra worked perfectly fine. Any help appreciated.
