my sequence
1) OTAswfix ==> select OTA option
2) start the 008 install
3) let it reboot
4) OTAswfix ==> select OTA option
5) start the 008 install
6) when it reboots, hold option key and select the USB built using the dosdude1 patcher
7) install the post install patches with Legacy Platform Compatibility Patch added
8) near the end, the 'force cache rebuild' checkbox becomes available. select that , then click reboot.

there's probably some extra steps in here, but worked for me.
Nice try but needs clarifications.;)
1) From CatalinaOTAswufix.app> select Software Update fix button, let it confirm OK
2) Start the 008 install from the Apple SWU C/P (re-runnng the CatalinaOTAswufix.app may be necessary)
3) Select OTAswfix button as the D/L starts, it will confirm OK
4) Continue the 008 install to completion
5) when it reboots, hold option key and select the dosdude1 patcher USB
6) Install the recommened post-install patches.
7) When the 'Force Cache Rebuild' checkbox becomes available <Select> then wait 10 seconds, restart the Mac. Often, the initial restart after patching can take much longer then usual and is normal.
Note - Make certain the Library/Updates ƒ is empty before starting the update or it will fail!

Hello,

last year I had to equip my iMac 12.2 with a new graphics card (Quadro K1100M 2 GB) and so far I had no problems with Mac OS High Sierra. But since many apps (e.g. Office or Fusion) require a higher operating system, I took the plunge and installed Mac OS X Catalina using DosDudes Catalina Patcher, yesterday according to DosDudes YouTube instructions. So far so good, but the Mac keyboard and mouse no longer work and booting only via the option key and drive selection. Likewise, the hibernation does not seem to work anymore. When waking up from hibernation, I have to switch the computer off and on again with the option key. These two things are extremely bothersome. Does anyone have any remedy?

Oh, I did a clean install on my internal SSD (which ran perfectly under High Sierra) and also performed a csrutil disable (was presented as a solution in some forums)

Thanks

Pete

Check the installation instructions on the iMac GPU thread. This patcher here never supported iMac 2011 models. You can use it only with manual post patching. So your problems are well known.

Additionally you need OpenCore to get brightness control working, you might consider using OLCP instead of this patcher - OCLP fully supports your modded system even with Catalina.

Hello Ausdauersportler,

I guess I put myself wrong. My graphics card works fine, but the keyboard, mouse and system start do not work, unless I press the option key at start-up, then I can select the start-up drive and it boots perfectly.

My question was whether there is a possibility (or what is the cause of this phenomenon) to start the system without the option key. Could it be that the boot drive is not saved? Because I have built in an extra data SSD that has no OS.

Regards

Pete

There is no other fix than following the instructions I already mentioned.

might be that the motherboard battery (CR2032) finally needs replacement after ~10 years.
it's a non-trivial task to replace on the imac12,2 (see iFixit for the 45 step guide)

Thanks for your detailed explanation; after multiple failures to install 008 coming back from Big Sur with a clean install of 10.15.7, this worked like a charm. Now have 10.15.7 (19H1704); all works flawlessly. Kudos!

Hello Icubed,

Thank you for your answer. I replaced the battery when I had to change the graphics card (last year).

Hello Ausdauersportler,

I asked DosDude whether this configuration was compatible and he gave it a go. Unfortunately, he does not respond to this problem. Could you possibly tell me a little more precisely what I can do differently, your explanation was a little opaque to me.

Thank you

Pete

Are you using a wired USB keyboard and mouse? A lot of the time, Bluetooth devices need to be re-paired. Not sure about the sleep issue though; the only thing that would affect that is the non-Metal video card patches, but they are not installed since you have the Quadro card installed. One thing to ensure is that you have the latest system firmware installed. If unsure, you can install the firmware update package linked on the Catalina Patcher webpage.

Just wanted to note that I've upgraded my Macbook Pro 8,2 (deMuxed) to Catalina (from Mojave) this week and it is working well.

Since my MBP had been running Mojave since 2019, I actually went back and installed High Sierra (latest) first, to get my EFI Firmware updated from 82.0.0.0.0 to 87.0.0.0.0, which worked without a hitch. I then erased the internal SSD APFS volume and did a clean Catalina install.

I have not had time to go thru all 600 pages of this forum yet....but I will note it was a pleasant surprise that I did not have to manually apply the dosdude1 patches from flash drive after install....seems they got installed correctly without my input during macOS install, and then just needed to update from within Catalina after installation boot up. Cool.

Happy so far! Thanks @dosdude1 and community!

Just updated to latest security and device support patches this morning...

- Run CatalinaOTAswufix and then see the available updates.
- Download 008 security update
- Hit CatalinaOTAswufix OTA fix after download about 30%
- Let update run
- Reboot (gets stuck in boot loop)
- Reboot to flash drive installer and reapply post-install patches.
- Rebuild caches
- Reboot to Catalina
- download and install devices update patch from Apple
- Reboot to Catalina
- Run dosdude1 patch installer, reinstall library patch.
- reboot
- Run / install any left-over patches (dosdude1 patch utility)
- reboot.
- Run Silent Knight and get all updates (MRT needed updating)
- Reboot

Yes i use a wired usb Keyboard. Aftwr a repairing this Prob (Bluetooth) is solved. Only Start go only with option key pressed and hibernation mode is also without function. I'll test the tip with the firmware afterwards, thanks for that. In the end I had High Sierra on the system with Apfs support, but it doesn't do any harm.

Hello DosDude,

i had already installed version 87.0.0.0 of the APFS. But I still did the FW update again. Unfortunately without success. In order to boot the OS, the key option must still be pressed. A restart does not work either and hibernation does not work either. I then did another clean install of High Sierra and over it the Catalina Patcher ... unfortunately without success. The same problem. I don't understand why it doesn't work on this machine and it does on older machines. Do I have to click something during post-install that is not activated by default, because of my Nvidia Quadro K1100M ??? I don't want to have to buy a new Mac, there has to be a solution

greetings

Pete

P.S: Need Help urgently ...

I have also run into this issue before end never did find a solution. A couple of workarounds are to check the APFS fix in the DosDude Catalina patcher USB, that works 100% but shows scrolling text for a few seconds that most people don’t like. Another workaround I’ve found is to use an older JackLuke USBAPFSloader to replace the EFI folder on your boot disks EFI partition. This one works 50-60% of the time and looks like the original boot process.

Thank you for your answer. I've given up now after wasting all weekend on it. There is no way to get the current Mac OS on my system. I had also tried the OpenCore Patcher, but to no avail. It looks like Apple won and I'm going to buy a current Mac. But it's a bit hypocritical from Apple. With the iPhones there is more power supply because of the environment, but I should scrap a working Mac just because Apple does not adapt the current OS.

I’m confused. According to your post the computer works fine you just have to hold down the option key to get it to boot once it’s powered off? That sounds like a hardware problem and not one that would be solved even if your device was “supported” by Apple.
