I had overlooked your question: Yes, the Mac will freeze during the last reboot. I let this happen because I don't want to interrupt the process too early. Then:

And I'ld like to add: There you have to watch your machine, because after 10s it reboots without Cache Rebuild. I've missed that moment many times... ?
Is there a way for certain to know the Mac is frozen and it’s time to reboot or would I have to assume it’s frozen and it’s time to reboot and repatch via usb?

I had quite a few of my Macs running Catalina patcher a while ago. As far as I remember, they all failed to boot correctly, but the symptoms were different. Let it do its job for several hours. Then you can be sure, it's done...

Hi all!

I'm having an issue on Google Sheets on Safari: when I write in a cell and I move to another cell all I wrote disappears.

I'm using Catalina on a MacBook Pro 13' 2009.
Before last Safari update (2 days ago if I remember well) it was working fine.

It works fine on Google Chrome but as you know it's not the best browser for such an old Mac.

I found this solution:
But when I go to the Experimental Features menu I can't find "GPU process: Canvas Rendering".

Can anyone help me please?
Nobody having the same issues? Thanks

Thank you for the tip, however, it dd not work. Trackpad still scrolling with 2 fingers, and double-tap zoom.
Do you know of any other thing I can try?

MBP4,1 successfully updated to 19H1026.

I can't activate Safari extensions, Boom 3D doesn't work either.

BTW, do you know how to access the user library from a CCC Backup? I need to copy some files from there.

Any help would be appreciated
I tried to fix the trackpad issue follow this https://osxdaily.com/2014/01/31/turn-on-mac-touch-to-click-command-line/

Hi everybody. Catalina keeps downloading macOS Monterey install image besides I already disabled automatic downloads. But everytime I delete it, it downloads again after a while. This just happened recently since I have more free hard disk space available. This is very annoying because it eats up 12gb of free hard disk space.

PS: Has anyone tried to save an empty text file with the same file name and file extension to the applications folder? Would the system update think, the file already exists?

AirDrop Catalina pre-patched (only for Broadcom cards) to those interested you should post the output of these Catalina Terminal commands:

ioreg -l | grep "board-id" | awk '{print $4}'
ioreg -r -n ARPT | grep IOName
system_profiler -detailLevel mini | grep "Card Type"
system_profiler -detailLevel basic | grep "Model Identifier"

Meanwhile here are some Wifi kext that I've pre-patched (tested and working) to AirDrop on Catalina unsupported Mac, they are hyperlinks so just click the one for your machine to download:

AirDrop Catalina MacBook7,1 and MacBookPro6,2.zip

AirDrop Catalina patched MacBook6,1.zip

AirDrop Catalina patched MacBookAir2011 4,2.zip

MacBookPro8,3 AirDrop Catalina.zip

AirDrop fix Catalina MacBookAir4,1.zip

MacBookPro8,1 Airdrop Catalina.zip (This machine has two different board-id)

Macmini4,1 AirDrop Catalina.zip

Macmini5,1 AirDrop Catalina.zip

MacBookPro8,2 AirDrop Catalina.zip

After downloaded, open a Catalina terminal and copy/paste:

sudo mount -uw / ; killall Finder

Then from Catalina Finder replace (do not merge) them inside your Catalina /System/Library/Extensions/

after from a Catalina terminal send these commands copy/paste one at once:

sudo chown -R 0:0 /S*/L*/E*/
sudo chmod -R 755 /S*/L*/E*/
sudo kextcache -i /

(the "kextcache" takes some minutes to complete)

At next reboot you should have AirDrop in Catalina Finder.

After you have a working AirDrop, I suggest to apply this additional fix to enable an extra AirDrop feature that apple removed from Catalina: "AirDrop Search for older Mac"

After a working AirDrop on Catalina, if you have also a Bluetooth 4.0 card (or BT4.0 usb dongle), to add Continuity (Handoff, hotspot, etc.) you can directly apply this script: catalinacontinuityfix.command.zip

Or check this other example: enable continuity from terminal
Did all of this using the kext available for Macbook8,1 but nothing happened, what should I do now? I really need this to be working, lol.

Hi everyone,
I searched this thread but did not find a solution.
Is it possible to enable AirDrop and Handoff on a Macbook Pro 5,5 mid 2009. I know I need a USB Bluetooth 4 Dongle to use this feature. Is there an example to modify the correct kext files?
Thanks in advance.

Is this live? I have intermittently seen it show up in software update. But I didn't think it was final yet (2022-004)?
I got the update via system softwareupdates using the CatalinaOTAswufix.app.
Mostly these are beta's and no final versions, you are right!

updated using:

but after the core update i reran to get the beta update.

Added from #13,967 below:

Fairly complete instruction with a few caveats.

Often, if the OTA Update Fix is not applied early in the D/L progress the update will fail and boot normally. When this occurs go to Library/Updates ƒ and delete everything within, then retry. If the OTA Update Fix is fully applied, items on the Desktop will disappear, twice and re-appear.

There is an additional step required for unpatched ROM Macs which requires a USBOpenCoreAPFSloader3.app or OC4b USB by @jackluke to find macOS Installer to complete.

Please see this post below for needed files
I'm having problems getting my Dosdude Catalina patched system to install security updates, on a macbook late 2008 5,1.

I'm following the OTA guide from page 1 of this thread or here

I can get CatalinaOTAswufix to reveal the beta updates and then use the details button to restore defaults and get the non beta update. I then start downloading the security update 2022-003. Following step 5, I let it try and install, but I get the black screen with white apple and progress bar, which just fills to about 10% before it quits and reboots.

Following step 6 & 7, I use CatalinaOTAswufix again and hit "OTA Update Fix" to get to the Software update screen (desktop seems to reload twice) , but it presents a different security update - 2021-004. I hit "OTA Update Fix" before this download and then start this one downloading. Again I get the black screen and white Apple & bar, which again quits at 10%'ish and reboots.

Once again I go back to the Software install screen which is now offering me security update 2022-003 again!
I hit OTA Update Fix before hitting install. If I'm lucky it recognises that I've already used CatalinaOTAswufix and doesnt give me the WARNING screen. Again I just get the black install screen with 10% bar before it reboots.

It seems to not be applying any updates for me (stuck on installed 10.15.7 (19H2). The steps/ process I am following may be getting derailed when Software Install starts offering me the 2021-004 update, after I downloaded/ attempted install of 2022-003!

Does anyone have any suggestions? Not sure how to fix this apart from again emptying out my Library/Updates folder again and vainly repeating whole process...

If you read the complete post you may have found this line, too:

Please check
GitHub for files needed.

Not sure, but the Late 2008 MacBook 5,1 is not APFS ready or APFS patched?

Thanks for pointing that out. I already have a USB for the Dosdude Catalina Patcher inserted to be able to run the post install patches.
It is an unpatched ROM, all nondestructive so far.
Once I've created a USB with USBOpenCoreAPFSloader3.app, how does it figure into the above update sequence?
