Same issue late 2009 21.5. However I used Citrix 19.12. Reinstalling older patch from usb drive doesn’t help. Tried newer 2203 Citrix version. Also there is a glitchy log off screen after patch apply. Looks like dead overclocked gpu. For the info Citrix version 1912 was the last to support mojave as the patcher is based on mojave maybe it’s related. Looking for the way to revert this changes, as I am using my Mac as an rdp workstation.
However may be you should give 19.12 a try.
Also used
defaults write com.citrix.receiver.nomas PreferMetalRendering -bool NO
Earlier, now this parameter is not working.
I’m not sure why that would occur... The only major change from previous versions is the utilization of QuartzCore.framework from Mojave, which improves performance, specifically restores hardware acceleration in browsers. I’ll have to test it myself and see if I can replicate it.

Ok, Music on my end also. The other 3rd party Apps that required temporarily shutting internet to open, now work thankfully without this step.

Any thoughts about the problems with my Video Legacy patch experience #15,573?

Yep, the third-party app launching issues were what I intended to fix with the latest Library Validation Disabler patch... Unfortunately it seems to break the Music app (but nothing else). For your issue, you may want to try creating a USB installer with the latest Catalina Patcher version, and perform the installation with its Post-Install tool instead of using Patch Updater.

The post-Install tool I used throughout my issue y/day, what got me out of the frozen boot, this I had downloaded only Yesterday.

Every time I booted to this usb I did notice "Legacy Patcher" ticked, yet it still prompted after boot to install it via Update Prefs. Post 15,573

Unfortunately, I have no way of logging in to that application, so I can't test. Please try replacing QuartzCore.framework with the attached copy (unmodified from Catalina 10.15.7). Do so by doing the following in Terminal:

Code:
sudo mount -uw /
sudo cp -R QuartzCore.framework /System/Library/Frameworks
sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Frameworks/QuartzCore.framework
sudo chown -R 0:0 /System/Library/Frameworks/QuartzCore.framework

Then reboot. If that resolves the issue, I'll update the patcher accordingly. Unfortunately this reversion will reduce performance, but the other improvements will remain.

Was able to test with another application, and indeed can confirm reverting to stock QuartzCore.framework resolves the issue. Changes have been made to Patcher and released via Patch Updater.

The Music app no longer work since yesterday after the 2x latest patch update.
Music app issue is unrelated; it is due to the Library Validation Disabler patch. I've been working on fixing it, but there is a chance it won't be fixable. Still is a much better solution than before, where the old implementation would cause a lot of third party apps to fail to launch.

Thx for the ongoing improvement for this project and still have strong faith in you😅

In the meantime, if it's possible to have the option of choosing the 2nd last version for both patches so that people can pick & choose if they want their Music app to work and ignore the 3rd party app launch issue, and hardware graphic acceleration for people don't need Citrix app?

Just curious if there is a way to uninstall the Library Validation Disabler patch in order to get Music working?

I hope this is not a dumb question. Thanks for all your hard work @dosdude1 in creating your patcher for Catalina.

You can remove DisableLibraryValidation.kext in /Library/Extensions and rebuild kextcache, but the machine will most likely stop booting. You can set the "DisableLibraryValidation" key to true in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.libraryvalidation.plist to revert to the original method, but that will cause third party applications to stop launching properly. Having Music not working is a much better situation than having third party apps fail to launch randomly, so I'm going to keep it that way for now until I'm able to find some sort of solution for the Music app (which may not be possible).

Tested and not work

Put "DisableLibraryValidation" to true on plist do not do the trick, I set this way an reboot and Music app still crash at launch

Now reverted to false

I have Catalina on a MacPro3,1 and the Music app works fine (using the old Catalina patcher). I guess I don't use third party apps that fail to launch. Is there a list of such apps that fail?

Make sure you rebuild kextcache after deleting kext (sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel)

Basically any application that requires security permissions, such as camera, mic, etc. So basically any browsers, Microsoft Office, among others.

Apart from mentioned MS Suites, Coconut Batteries and more importantly 1Password (stand-alone). The trick was to turn off WiFi, then on after they successfully launched. Off course they're just the ones that I've come across.

MS Suites? I use Microsoft 365. I'm running Microsoft Outlook and Xcel (both 16.64). I'm not using WiFi or Bluetooth. Actually, I'm currently using Monterey 12.4 but I still have my Catalina installation plus every macOS since Tiger 10.4.

For those of you getting stuck on the white screen after installing the Legacy Video Card patch with the Patch Updater: hold Command-V during early startup to turn on verbose mode.

You may see text with a bunch of errors on it similar to these:
apfs_spec_read_wrapper:11004: aps_spec_read_wrapper: f_info->fsr_offset <NUMBER>...
...
AppleUSBHostUserClient::start: missing entitlement com.apple.bluetooth.control
...
AMFI: SIP is off, allowing core dump for pid ...
Process[...] crashed: diskarbitrationd, Too many corpses being created.

This last group and the apfs_spec_read_wrapper messages repeat forever with a few other messages.
I didn't take a video to watch all of the scrolling text to see if there are any other interesting messages, but someone might find interesting differences between a booting system and one that is getting stuck on the white screen.

After rebooting into the patched USB stick, it wouldn't mount the disk. I had to use disk util to repair some APFS errors, but that only happened on the first of three attempts. Like others running into the problem, using the USB stick Patch Post Installer and only installing the "Legacy Video Card Patch" with a forced Rebuild kextcache recovers my system. (Tried this three times just to make sure it wasn't a one time occurrence.)

MacBook Pro 8,3 10.15.7 (19H2026) with a Demux version before "gMux Version" (backlight control) was provided. Probably not related, but is there a way to get an update to Demux?

I haven't tried creating a new USB boot installer yet to see if that does fix the problem. Probably this weekend.

Very odd, I guess installing these patches in the actual OS can be a bit finicky, as major system libraries are being replaced. Worst case you can re-install patches with the USB installer, which should resolve any issues. As for DeMux, just send me a PM.

Hi all

just seeking advice post issue with failed attempt at installing the Video Legacy Patcher.

Issues on white screen, progress bar at 100% but not advancing. I wrote also that during one attempt on this 5,3 and iGPU active, a graphics anomaly briefly appeared. Post #15,568.

Opened Mail just now and noticed ever single email I have is now overlayed with dynamic graphics glitches comprised of content from FB, this site, and StatMenus from the menu bar. It's only local to my MBP, no other Apps by this affected. Test email shows this to be ongoing.

Here's a sample in case someone perhaps has a solution. Actual email content is completely obscured by this cocktail from different sources.

@jackluke has not been online for nearly a year.

You need to go back to his post and follow the manual hex editing approach he described in detail in the attached PDF.
Thank you for your reply!

I unfortunately lack the confidence (frankly the skill) to do the manual hex editing. I am trying to get Airdrop working for a friend remotely who is less tech-literate than myself.

May I ask the the assistance for someone in the community to create a modified file for download for the benefit of myself and others who have the Macbook Pro 7.1?

So much in advance!

AirDrop Catalina pre-patched (only for Broadcom cards) to those interested you should post the output of these Catalina Terminal commands:

ioreg -l | grep "board-id" | awk '{print $4}'
ioreg -r -n ARPT | grep IOName
system_profiler -detailLevel mini | grep "Card Type"
system_profiler -detailLevel basic | grep "Model Identifier"

Meanwhile here are some Wifi kext that I've pre-patched (tested and working) to AirDrop on Catalina unsupported Mac, they are hyperlinks so just click the one for your machine to download:

AirDrop Catalina MacBook7,1 and MacBookPro6,2.zip

AirDrop Catalina patched MacBook6,1.zip

AirDrop Catalina patched MacBookAir2011 4,2.zip

MacBookPro8,3 AirDrop Catalina.zip

AirDrop fix Catalina MacBookAir4,1.zip

MacBookPro8,1 Airdrop Catalina.zip (This machine has two different board-id)

Macmini4,1 AirDrop Catalina.zip

Macmini5,1 AirDrop Catalina.zip

MacBookPro8,2 AirDrop Catalina.zip

After downloaded, open a Catalina terminal and copy/paste:

sudo mount -uw / ; killall Finder

Then from Catalina Finder replace (do not merge) them inside your Catalina /System/Library/Extensions/

after from a Catalina terminal send these commands copy/paste one at once:

sudo chown -R 0:0 /S*/L*/E*/
sudo chmod -R 755 /S*/L*/E*/
sudo kextcache -i /

(the "kextcache" takes some minutes to complete)

At next reboot you should have AirDrop in Catalina Finder.

After you have a working AirDrop, I suggest to apply this additional fix to enable an extra AirDrop feature that apple removed from Catalina: "AirDrop Search for older Mac"

After a working AirDrop on Catalina, if you have also a Bluetooth 4.0 card (or BT4.0 usb dongle), to add Continuity (Handoff, hotspot, etc.) you can directly apply this script: catalinacontinuityfix.command.zip

Or check this other example: enable continuity from terminal

Hi,

after yesterday update I have problem with iCloud, for example I can't send text messages from Messages.app as SMS

UPDATE:
Sorry, it looks that problem with iCloud is unrelated to this patch.
