Thanks dude thats great,. Sorted all the machines at mine, But is there anything I can do for the ones I cant physically get to?
It should be as simple as booting while holding Command + R keys to boot to recovery mode, from which the macOS Post Install tool can be opened. From there, just select "Apply Patches", and reboot once done. If Recovery mode doesn't work for some reason, then a Catalina Patcher installer USB drive will be needed.

I just update patch 1.4.7 on Mac mini late 2009 and now It stuck on Apple logo without any process bar movement. What should I do?

Edit: I try to boot from USB bootable drive, I press option to choose the drive to boot as shown on the first photo.

It run EFI boot and then stuck at Apple screen, USB drive flashing for a while and then nothing happen at all.

1st, thanks dosdude1 for providing the patch, been using it for the past 3 years and its great.
2nd I have the same issue and don't have the patch on usb drive. Pressing Command + R gives me a blank white screen, but I am able to boot into Internet recovery mode by pressing Command + Option + R. Can I launch macOS Post Install tool from there? If yes, can you please provide some instructions as to how.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Dosdude1,
After the latest Patch Updates my Imac 27" with Nvidia graphics card (K2000M) had an issue on boot.
  1. The issue was: sip is off allowing core dump for pid.
    1. For repair this : (On Terminal (Cmd + OPT + R) on Repair mode)
      1. mount -uw /
      2. nvram boot-args="-no_compat_check amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1"
      3. reboot
    2. Then the boot works but probably with the new patches (Graphic), My second monitor doesn't work.
Could you help me for this? thanks. Maybe should be needed the "Catalina Patcher installer" using the boot with USB drive.

I tried to reinstall the patches using the tool "Patch Updater" without success. Also the Music program freeze the Mac but after 2 minutes you can to close the program and all come back normally.

Thanks a lot and Best Regards
Andy

It might be the end of this Mac mini 3.1, I create the boot drive with new patch and try to install via USB - Same symptom again.

Edit: I even try to use the old version of Catalina Patch to create the boot drive, nothing works.

Your modded iMac does not need any old or new (legacy non metal) graphics patches, it will run without any such patches. You have a metal dGPU supported with Catalina and even Big Sur.

In addition you might consider to use OCLP instead of this patcher if you are willing to sacrifice AirPlay and the iGPU. In return you can run Catalina and Big Sur completely unpatched, even Monterey. Checkout the GPU thread (first post) in my signature and check out OCLP….

BTW: The external display will work when using OCLP…

I have been using Catalina on an 2011 MacBook Pro, worked like a charm with the patch from dosdude, 2 days back I installed a patch update, post that my screen is stuck on the loading screen. Command Option R worked for me, but I didn’t see any option for pre or post install tool, I just ran first aid. I am missing something here I know but what exactly…

Help folks !!

Same Problem here. I installed in Mac mini 2009 and tried to restart. The screen is kind of trash and then they can't boot any more. I tried Command Option R, didn't work as well!!

Hi, just updated my 2011 MacBook Pro (with a disabled AMD Radeon GPU) yesterday. After that it stops booting.

Tried many things but can't get it working. Only thing that worked is to over install Catalina.

Now I´m asking myself is it necessary to install the video patch or has it no effect if the Mac runs only the Intel GPU?

edit: Now after FIRST install the Library Validation, reboot, install the Video Card patch, FORCE reboot, after reboot rebuilding kext cache everything works fine.

i will go back to the original ios because I am in a desperate situation and with no real answers it’s tough because I am not a techie, the smart person that I am haven’t done a backup in 2 years and that’s where I am worried. If there was a step by step or explainer video that would help so many, is there any way I can retrieve files ?

Was there a security update released for Catalina today? I put my MacBook Pro 9,1 on Big Sur, but curious if there's a Catalina update with a firmware update.

Edit: I just checked and there isn’t.

Any issues can be fixed by booting your machine from the USB installer drive made with Catalina Patcher, and applying the post-install patches to the correct volume.

Could you like give a step by step way, how do I get the patcher on a USB when my system won’t start. Your explanation is more like a synopsis, would be very much appreciated if you could list a step by step or make a quick video or something.
thanks in advance

isn't #1 having everything you ask for?

Installation

macOS Catalina Patcher

To install on your machine, you can download and run @dosdude1's macOS Catalina Patcher application, which will let you download a copy of the latest installer app from Apple and create a bootable installer drive for use on unsupported Macs. It contains all the patches necessary to achieve the hardware support listed above. The installation guide can be found here and an installation guide video here.

It's the same process as was used to install initially; download Catalina Patcher app, perform the download of Catalina installer (or select an existing copy), then create a bootable installer using a USB drive with the option in the tool. Once done, boot machine while holding option key, select the USB drive, and from there, re-apply post-install patches.

I did that twice, pressed option and select the USB boot drive - it stuck at Apple logo without any progress for at least an hour. Also, I recreate boot drive on my 2018 MacBook Pro with Monterey using Catalina Patcher which download Catalina from Apple Website. It stucked on Apple Logo at the same spot. Even go far to downgrade Catalina patcher to 14.4 and recreate Boot drive, nothing change.

Before update patch 14.7, everything works fine for me. Never open music app at all. Just browsing web and download BitTorrent.

BTW, the USB drive show as EFI boot. Is that ok?

It should show up named as "macOS Base System". Try a different USB drive, that'll probably help.

When the update first came, I installed it and many of my problems were fixed. However, another update came later and it broke again.

so i want to install again this patch:
1.4.5 - 9/7/2022

• Added much-needed improvements to Legacy Video Card Patch for non-Metal video cards
• Fixed Library Validation/App Crashing issues
• Updated MouSSE to latest version

How can i?

MBP 6,1
Catalina 10.15.7

Thanks!

Thanks for a clearer explanation, I hope it doesn’t erase all my data while I run it.
thanks
I also had problems with my 2011 15" MBP with no dGPU working.

Boot it with the USB, make the "post install" and he boot fine.
After that, he hang again after instaling the files that the Catalina patcher ask.

Since he hangs after the 2 updates file, after repeating the USB post intall, I try the only install the big file patcher update and do not install the other one.

He now boots fine, (on every boot the Catalina patcher remind me that he have 1 file to update), but it´s working.

Hey, firstly thanks to the contributors who answered my questions, and managed to fix the issue. I used the left option key if that's important.
I had a question whilst updating the patch there were a few items that were not selected automatically (like the others), should I have selected them?
