Thank you everybody. :)

I am currently not brave enough to patch my MCP97 Chipset (in Mac mini 3,1). I did it tear down and got the number. It is LIKE MX25L3205D . Because there was one more letter or count after the "D" at the end, but I cannot remember now.

The Patcher tells me in this machine there are multiple chip definitions. I think the one that could fit and fit best in theory is that one, that is shown as "MX25L3205D/MX25L3208D" in the patcher.

I read a lot. So, to my conclusion people, who were successful in patching their machines are not Mac mini 3,1 users.

May I ask you, Dosdude1, are you going to add a APFS Patcher later in your final tool? Or are all machines with Nvidia chipset out of race?

Sorry for my bad English.

Thank you guys :)

Don't you think that adding something potentially unsafe will sabotage the patcher? I am sure that nobody wants their patcher to be dangerous in any way.

So i’ve noticed weird graphical anamolies (in the finder)brightness issues and the sleep function doesn’t work with Dosdude1’s program. Is this normal for a macbook pro 8,2 on Catalina? Will reinstalling the Patch tool with the “non-metal” patch option help?

I finally got Catalina installed on my MP 5,1 with collin's latest patcher. Every previous attempt gave me weird errors, like "can't create preboot volume" half way during the install for beta 2. Beta 1 would say the OSinstall.mpkg is corrupt. BUT the latest patch creator seems to have fixed whatever was wrong.
Anyways I just thought I'd share my first experience with the OS.
It's installed on the same NVMe as Mojave is only on a 200GB partition. I did not install any patches, as I am on a 5,1 with a metal GPU and ethernet network connection so none are needed.

Catalina is slow. Finder, and especially system preferences have more beach balls than my Beige G3 running Tiger. I guess that's why we don't run a Beta OS as your main system lol.
It doesn't bog down the machine at all though, I think its just very buggy.

I don't know what I did wrong. The panel for Night Shift appeared. No matter what setting I use, nothing happens.

Try to reboot, you need Video Framebuffer loaded to use NightShift, anyway CoreBrightness, CoreDisplay, SkyLight, GPUWrangler and others tricky frameworks I prefer to replace them from single user mode or from another macOS with APFS write access to the disk. I don't replace them on-the-fly.

My first post on Catalina Forum (been posting mostly on Mojave forum)

I installed Catalina developer beta 2 on an external SSD hosted by a MacBook Air 13" Mid 2011 (MacbookAir4,2).

I used the excellent @dosdude1's macOS Catalina Patcher 1.0b2 (awesome as always and I like the new gui display).
It worked great - graphics acceleration accomplished, etc.
Several observations/issues:
  • System Preferences | Desktop | Appearance | Auto does not work or cannot be selected
  • Night Shift does not work either.
  • Light mode (same as in Mojave) still problematic (although I used @pkoume's latest hybrid patches). Not really an issue for me since Dark mode is my preference.
  • Cannot disable or move files from the /usr/bin even if I logged in as root.
  • If I use Time Machine backup, it states that I have 2 "host drive - data" so I have to exclude the " - data" folder.
  • Related to the above, if I boot up to my Mojave host and attach the external Catalina SSD drive, I do see 2 " - data" folders.
For now my preference is still Mojave.

Appreciate the excellent work of @dosdude1 and @ASentientBot. Apologies to those I failed to mention who should deserve it as well.

- For Night Shift you could use this temporary fix (based on pikeralpha method): CoreBrightness Catalinabeta2 nightshift

- Catalina "Auto mode" seems to not work also on supported Catalina Mac

- To move/copy/edit system files just type from Catalina Terminal: sudo mount -uw / ; killall Finder
or better use this: Fix read-only error for APFS Catalina system files/folders

- About TimeMachine I guess the most important volume to backup should be the "APFS Data" since it's there that all the personal datas and settings are stored, anyway seems that on beta TM doesn't work properly yet

I know my card is not compatible with AirDrop and now I have a RAMDisk in the cloud to transfering files, I am using that in place of AirDrop and Thumb Drives. I’ll dig more into it later when I can afford a good card. I tried purchasing the 99 dollar one twice from the Chinese seller and my PayPal rejected the sale which also tells me the seller must be getting bad reviews and returns. So i’ll bother with this at a later time when I find a seller I can trust. OSXWIFi is a bit steep.

The BCM94360CD from this ebay seller worked fine when used with the following adapter card in my MacPro 3,1.

As far as I can tell, PhotosUICore relies pretty heavily on Metal, and it crashes for me even on a clean install with no library.

I tried patching out the Metal calls and got the app to launch, and it "works" -- you can import and edit photos just fine, but you can't see the main list of photos, which makes it more or less useless. You can only see an image when you click on it. So I sort of gave up.

@ASentientBot does your Catalina PhotosUICore "Metal calls" NOP allow at least to use the picture editing tools ?

I mean this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207596

edit:
However they totally changed Photos.app in Catalina, apart the Metal, many changed and new added frameworks/privateframeworks than Mojave, for example the PhotosUICore exec on HighSierra/Mojave was 4 MB , now on Catalina is 12 MB, they added a bunch of new coding.

You might want to explain the circumstances a little better and perhaps try a different USB drive. I have used the previous version 1.0b1, to update a number of machines with no issues whatsoever.
Each time I open the patcher it starts to patch the base system dmg then crashes with a server error ?

Try running
Code:
sudo killall patcherd
in Terminal, then try running the tool. There's a few small cleanup operations I need to implement still to prevent this.

Does it work with APFS partition? I have failed installation with former version of Patcher (MBP 5.3, APFS partition 45GB for Catalina Beta). Mojave is installed and works on APFS well enough.
On that system, you need to have applied APFS ROM Patcher for the current patcher versions to work (as explained on the webpage, "Your system must have native APFS support"). I will be adding a software APFS patch soon, though.

I got Final Cut Pro X 10.4.6 to launch on macOS Catalina on a MBP 2011 17-Inch without removing the AMD kexts. All I did was I installed macOS Catalina with @dosdude1's tool. Then, I installed Lilu and Whatevergreen and bam it launched. It's really buggy probably because Lilu and Whatevergreen haven't been updated for macOS Catalina yet and neither has Final Cut Pro X. I am going to try Mojave and Lilu and Whatevergreen. Maybe there's hope for these old AMD Cards after all (by someone way smarter than me). I'm going to post a picture (if you don't believe me) and look up my serial number (if you don't believe me either):

Wait... is that acceleration using the Radeon 6xxx? I know nothing about that system (I only have an nVidia based machine) but I know that would be a major breakthrough if so.

Yes, you can edit photos. But in the main list, they are invisible. So it's not really practical.

It sure looks like it! I'm about to test this now!

I think Lilu and Whatevergreen are what makes it work. The hackintosh community might have helped us here.
No, that's just to enable hardware video encoding. Acceleration doesn't work, as seen here.

From @nicksilverstein picture from a dualGPU seems to be using as primary the AMD 6750M, and even if the "dark mode" doesn't help in distinguishing well, seems that the Dock (thinner edges) is transparent under that AMD GPU.

Unless it's an hybrid acceleration that gained from the IntelHD3000.

would be great if we can get Acceleration working on AMD HD6xxx and 5xxx series..
I hope it will work..
Not sure if a hybrid mode could help the 2010/11 iMacs ??

The intel GPU isn't physically connected to the display, no gmux etc

If you try and install its driver in W10 UEFI mode you get an instant BSOD.

I think it can only be used for QuickSync etc ?

Ok I see, I can still use some HD6xxx graphics support on my Macbook Pro late 2011 btw ;)
on these iMac's we can upgrade the GPU's ;)
