Yeah, actually, I think the main issue with doing it on MCP79 machines is that it takes SO LONG to flash for some reason. What I think causes bricks is people's systems turn off or go to sleep during the process (as it takes 30+ minutes sometimes). So, chances are, as long as you make 100% sure your system stays running and out of sleep mode during the entire process, it'll work just fine. I can't guarantee this, but that will be the case most likely.

So if I were to bite the bullet (Late 2008 Unibody MacBook 5,1 with the NVidia MCP79 Chipset, and it’s doubtful I would as I watched that Youtube video earlier) I’d leave it plugged in on a full battery and leave amphetamine running keeping the screen from going off

It crashes on my iMac 9,1 to no Night Shift

I guess this time for Photos.app since from Catalina is fully Metal, we need to use a third party Photo app, Timothy for NightShift you can use this one temporary pre-patched from Catalina beta2. It goes in /S/L/PrivateFrameworks/

At last, the first preliminary release of the FULL macOS Catalina Patcher is now done! This is definitely one of the best macOS patcher implementations I've ever created, and it works amazingly well! I have not yet implemented all the features I intend to, but they will be coming very soon. As of now, the tool works perfectly with its new user interface, and will allow you to install a fully-patched copy of macOS Catalina on your unsupported system!

Fabulous tool and a great user interface! Good job.

Found a Fix For Photos.app Unexpectedly Closing on Mac OSX 10.15 (Dosdudes1 Patcher 1.0b2)

For some reason Photos.app Didn't update correctly during Installation Probably A bug from apple
Once opening Photos Press Command and Option key together it will then ask you if you want to Repair Photos After you have entered ur password it Will then update Photos Weird fix but Probably something to do with The Installation.

or you can adjust your energy saver options like this

I used the ROM Patcher on both of my Nvidia Chipset Macs (Early 2008 MBP & late 2008 unibody MacBook). I had no problems and it worked perfectly, just make sure your computer is plugged in and charged. Of course YMMV, I’m just sharing my experience with @dosdude1 APFS ROM Patcher.

The MacBook Pro (Early 2008) has a GPU by Nvidia but Intel Chipset, at least that’s what my 15" shows.

@KianOBartlett You said in post #2078 that you got Photos working on Catalina? Do you have a Metal-supported GPU? As far as I can tell, PhotosUICore relies pretty heavily on Metal, and it crashes for me even on a clean install with no library.

I tried patching out the Metal calls and got the app to launch, and it "works" -- you can import and edit photos just fine, but you can't see the main list of photos, which makes it more or less useless. You can only see an image when you click on it. So I sort of gave up.

I'm super curious about your fix.

@KianOBartlett has found an interesting trick, if you hold CMD+Option before opening Catalina Photos.app, and keep holding those keys, it will let you to choose the Photos Library, then it will no crash on the welcome screen, but just right after you click "next" it will stuck, but apparently Photos.app top menu are clickable.

Can we port the Mojave app at the very least?

Hi guys , I have a MacBook Pro mid 2010 (7,1) I have a question , its kinda a noob question ... if I do sudo nvram boot-args="-no_compat_check" is this permanent? or reversible? , also since I have Mojave in use (using dosdude1 patcher) if I boot my macbook sometimes in the first boot it hangs at loading screen (keyboard does not light up and if this happens in a small chance it boots but I can't use my keyboard) so I must restart and then it works , with kinda long boottime (3-4 mins) , is this something that can be fixed or must I live with it (also not a real problem haha)

i tried to install 10.15 beta on my 8,2 MacBook pro. Install didn't seem to work when i tried to install the patch and it says their is no 10,15 installation. can anyone help?

My GPU is a non-Metal
I originally tried replacing the Photos.app in catalina With a slightly modified version of Mojaves photos.app It seemed to hang at first but everytime I restart the Macbook it decides to go again and just pop up with an error code it seems to be clashing with something else that is out of my reach
It works a few times then dosent I keep having to repair Photos libary for it to work but after that once I quit photos I have to do it again to open it back up it's kind of a mess
Im working off @TimothyR734 Mojave Photos.app

When you install 10.15 dev beta 3 you need to use the current dosdude1 MacOS Catalina Patcher make sure your select your hdd/ssd you want it installed on after the first part of the install is done it will reboot the screen may appear black for a few mins then it will start to install and give your a progress bar with time remaining after its finished it will reboot hold your option button boot into your Catalina Patcher apply the post install patch

Here's a bug that I came across when trying to enable TRIM on my SSD-

Code:

Tunnelblick also errors out with a "tmp directory not secure" error. I'm just using IPVanish's app for VPN in the meantime.

I'm aware that these could possibly just be errors due to the beta state of the OS, or as a result of having to patch it for unsupported machines.

Just run
Code:
sudo mount -uw /
before doing so, then it should work.

Failed to stat file //AppleInternal, error No such file or directory

This is within Terminal and single user mode.

There are also a number of repeating errors about apfs_get_firmlink_target_vnode and apfs_load_inode_internal/ The first is followed by "Set VNFS_CANTCACHE for firmlink source vnodes". The second- "inode is a firmlink, need to return vnode of target path"

I converted my drive to apfs (before installation, as it's a brand new drive), as is apparent.

You can't use it on that system, as it natively supports APFS. Download and run this package to install the latest official system firmware on your machine.

This is normal; the root should be writable now until you reboot. (You'll have to kill Finder for it to notice the change, but command-line tools should work immediately.)

@dosdude1 What do you think about making a LaunchDaemon to make the drive writable at every boot, and adding it as an optional install in the patcher? Would that be a bad idea? I'm highly tempted to do such a thing on my own system.

I tried buying the one from overseas for $99 with ac and bt4.x and the PayPal transaction gets rejected and says contact the seller. Tried it twice. Since I have my own SkyDrive and it runs blazing fast, I am going to use that instead in place of AirDrop.

If I find a card that's not too expensive down the road I'll install it. I just got done buying two new cars so gonna hold off.
