What if do you check with a decompiler this Catalina unix exec:

/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemAppearance.bundle/Contents/MacOS/SystemAppearance

or maybe

/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/Finder

/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/Assets.car

do you think they are completely unrelated ?
I don't think that they are related to this problem...

DON'T DO IT!

I have tried @dosdude1 APFS patcher on my Mac mini 2009 and it bricked my maca mini, had to order an EFI chip, and had to go to a local eletronic shop for them to weld it on the board.

It's working fine again but I don't recomend you using it because these mac mini's were launched with several EFI chips and tho I took my mac mini apart to pick the correct one as he warned you that you should check it first, it still didn't work.

Im not complaining or anything, I knew what I was getting into, I'm a huge supporter of his work!

My advise for you is to wait it out, I know it's hard and you want to try it out, but just wait for @dosdude1 to release his patcher with APFS patcher for machines without native APFS, his has done this already in previous patcher's, so Im sure he will release this soon.

Just wait a little longer, that's what I advise

Next time buy a Matt card. Easier, cheaper and faster.

Yeah, actually, I think the main issue with doing it on MCP79 machines is that it takes SO LONG to flash for some reason. What I think causes bricks is people's systems turn off or go to sleep during the process (as it takes 30+ minutes sometimes). So, chances are, as long as you make 100% sure your system stays running and out of sleep mode during the entire process, it'll work just fine. I can't guarantee this, but that will be the case most likely.

Make that 40 mins.+ I bricked my favorite Mini3,1 when I killed the patcher after over 40 minutes of waiting. Need a FAQ with the APFS Patcher warning of this feature?

Since apple use proprietary connectors for many of their internal devices differently from Mac to Mac, I don't know exactly which one will fit on your board, but any Broadcom Airport produced after 2010 is good for that, and from what I noticed the SystemReport Wifi ID should be this 14E4, 0x9* or higher.

For example my PCI ID for both 2010 machines are the same (checked from supported HighSierra):
ioreg -r -n ARPT | grep IOName
"IOName" = "pci14e4,4353"
SystemReport: 14E4, 0x93

Anyway many here have upgraded their MP3,1 Broadcom Airport to recent ones, and they are compatible with stock Catalina IO80211Family*.kext.[/QUOT

Thanks for the info. I’ll dig around. My connector is a mini PCIe. I originally got my 802.11n card off Amazon. It works. In a later Mojave update 5Ghz started working. It did not when I first got the card. It used to only see 5Ghz.l but it could not access it.

I have noticed that Ethernet and FireWire networking has been Flaky on Catalina Beta 2. Going to investigate that sometime. I don’t need it right now but it’s a good back up as I used an old 2006 MacMini to share its internet.

How did you get Continuity Activation Tool to run? I can't. Doesn't even start. I click open, type in my password to circumvent the known developer thing, and then nothing.

edit: I was doing this in the admin account as well.

What version do you have?

Do you know of a Broadcom AP card that I can purchase off Amazon or eBay that does support Airdrop for a Mac Pro 3,1?

Thanks in advance,

For AirDrop , of course, you need also both the Wifi bands to work concurrently 2,4 Ghz and 5 Ghz (abgn), since AirDrop is based on the Wifi-Direct technology, and in addition for AirDrop is required also a working Bluetooth (minimum BT 2.1+EDR) to authorize the file-sharing over the same Wifi network.

I suspect not all adapter cards may be created equal. Three identical BCM9430CS2 on the same 'brand' of generic adapter card caused random posts failures when trying to boot a MacPro 3,1. After I caved and spent the extra money on a BCM94360CD with a version 3 of a BCM94360CD/BCM94331CD mini-PCIe adapter card, the problems disappeared.

I wish to thank all the great people here who have made this possible. Mac Pro 3,1 running 19A487l with original (non-APFS) firmware, non-EFI metal graphics card.
Hi! It is really a great accomplishment that Mac Pro 3,1 can get up and running with Catalina ! I have the same machine with a Quadro k5000 I recently acquired and I was thinking of making the jump from Sierra 10.12.6 to Catalina when it gets released in September. Just a few questions, Did you do a clean install of Catalina ? Also, Did you use APFS when you formated your SSD (I have the impression that on this machine we need a patch to allow APFS native booting on SSD ?) Did you change any settings in the Dosdude Catalina patcher ? Thanks in advanced !

My MacBookPro 4,1 (17-inch, Early 2008) is currently running macOS Mojave Version 10.14.3 thanks to Dosdude and forum colleagues.

Processor = 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory = 6 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB

I am willing to test install macOS Catalina Version 10.15 on this MBP 4,1 when installers/files are available.

At last, the first preliminary release of the FULL macOS Catalina Patcher is now done! This is definitely one of the best macOS patcher implementations I've ever created, and it works amazingly well! I have not yet implemented all the features I intend to, but they will be coming very soon. As of now, the tool works perfectly with its new user interface, and will allow you to install a fully-patched copy of macOS Catalina on your unsupported system!

The tool is able to run under as old as Mac OS X version 10.6 (Snow Leopard), ensuring maximum compatibility (doesn't use any of that awful Swift rubbish).

As of now, the same prequisites apply as with macOS Catalina PartialPatcher:
  • The system must support booting from APFS volumes natively, or have had native APFS support added to its BootROM via my APFS ROM Patcher tool
  • -no_compat_check must be set in NVRAM to install, as detailed on the webpage.

Let me know how you all like it, and of course, please report any bugs!

The Patcher tool Crashes on Mojave and also on my supported mac on 10.15. Should i send u the crash reports?

See my message on page 76. Same problem; crashed on unsupported and supported iMacs. Try another USB stick.
Just tried to do the same thing and replicate that bug but without success. On my 10.15 Hackintosh it worked for some reason
[doublepost=1561478627][/doublepost]
Can you post the full crash report?

unsupported mac = MBP8,1
supported mac = MBP13,2

Hope it helps you to resolve this issue.

@jackluke /S*/L*/PrivateFrameworks/Sharing.framework seems to be interesting. It contains functions like “..DeviceSupportsAirDrop”, “...DeviceSupportsContinuity” ... maybe someone could find there a patch to bring back AirDrop to old MBs (pre 2009)

You could try to replace it in Catalina PrivateFrameworks with a Sharing.framework from Mojave (or HighSierra), and maybe it should be suffice to enable the "AirDrop Finder menu" using the legacy AirPortBrcm4331.kext that was still present on Mojave and HighSierra.

edit:

In Catalina they added also a new SharingXPCServices.framework, so maybe you should rename this to SharingXPCServices.framework2 to avoid conflicts, even if XPCServices are tricky on macOS.
