Catalina work successfully in macbook 5,1?

Catalina works reasonably well on the MacBook5,1. Photos crashes, also ReportCrash process continuously running related to PerfPowerServices as the other posters already reported. Don't make it your main OS, just try it on a side. Catalina has plenty of bugs even on supported machine at this stage.

Hey everyone I recently got a mini 5.1 and the disk was cleaned and internet recovery goes to lion the problem is it ask for my Apple ID and says try again later I bought some recovery disks not knowing they only worked on MacBooks if anyone can help thanks
You will have to make a bootable Mac OS installer Flash Drive on a different pc then Install Mac OS on your Mac Mini.

Which Mac OS you use is up to you, the latest officially supported Mac OS is High Sierra 10.13 on the Mac Mini 5,1

But 10.13 might not install right away on your Mac Mini, I recommend you install Sierra 10.12 do a "firmware update" for your Mac Mini which will be done through "System Updates" on your Mac Mini in Sierra and then you can install High Sierra.

If you know High Sierra was already installed on the Mac Mini before a disk wipe then the Firmware would already have had been installed on your Mac Mini and you can install High Sierra directly.

Hope this helps

Thank you dosdude1.

It worked perfectly to install 19A487m (today's PB1) on my MP 3,1 with APFS boot rom with NVME patch and GTX680 nVidia card (flashed PC card). The wifi/BT 4.0/LE (BCM94360CD) pulled from an iMac 14,1 is working too OOB. Airdrop seems OK as well.

I'll report more on any bugs I see as I test the install.

At last, the first preliminary release of the FULL macOS Catalina Patcher is now done! This is definitely one of the best macOS patcher implementations I've ever created, and it works amazingly well! I have not yet implemented all the features I intend to, but they will be coming very soon. As of now, the tool works perfectly with its new user interface, and will allow you to install a fully-patched copy of macOS Catalina on your unsupported system!

The tool is able to run under as old as Mac OS X version 10.6 (Snow Leopard), ensuring maximum compatibility (doesn't use any of that awful Swift rubbish).

As of now, the same prequisites apply as with macOS Catalina PartialPatcher:
  • The system must support booting from APFS volumes natively, or have had native APFS support added to its BootROM via my APFS ROM Patcher tool
  • -no_compat_check must be set in NVRAM to install, as detailed on the webpage.

Let me know how you all like it, and of course, please report any bugs!

Ever so THANK YOU dosdude1.

Your patcher/installer created two volumes, is that normal?

Again, thank you.

Super beautiful work!!!!! :apple: must to give you a job;)

My CatWoman patcher for my card uses:

AirPortBrcm4331 version 8.0

this is my io reg:
"IOName" = "pci14e4,432b"

Currently that Broadcom AirPort Wifi PCI ID can't support AirDrop on Catalina, or can't use the stock IO80211Family.kext (that conceptually is the same thing).

- Do you include still the "APFS software efi bootloader" patch ?
- Or an HFS+ installation ?

edit:
- I notice you combined all the patches in one click, allowing only to de-select the non-metal Video patch.
- It allows to install over an HFS+ formatted drive, but after during the Installer stage2 will convert it to APFS.

I asked cause @toru173 and @crazybirdy have found a method to install Catalina in HFS+.

If you want to add to your Catalina the possibility to AirDrop and discover and be discovered by older MacOSX, you can use this simple fix, totally harmless for the machine: Catalina AirDrop fix "Search for an Older Mac"

@nekton1 in your case just use only the AirDropInfoView.nib (that is from Mojave).
The advantage of this fix is that Older Mac with BT 2.1 can discover and be discovered from Catalina for AirDropping (in the same Wifi network).

The fix works also on a supported Catalina Mac, and doesn't affect any other system functionality.

You can't use it on that system, as it natively supports APFS. Download and run this package to install the latest official system firmware on your machine.

@dosdude1 I have a mbp 8,1 late 2011 13" I have Catalina installed in one of the partitions I created and all the basics work well for a beta 2. Do you think its usefull and mandatory to install this package? The firmware?

I believe this is not for you. This is only for people who haven't updated their 2010-2011 Macs previously to High Sierra and therefore don't have the latest firmware update.

Almost same issue with Sidecar on a Mac Pro 3.1 equiped with a GTX 770 (metal capable) and a iPad Pro 12,9 2nd gen. I don't have the error related to metal device but the result is the application crash.

Maybe it's an issue with USB devices or the way Sidecar is communicating with the iPads?
Maybe it will be fixed in GM? We have to wait and see, but for now we know that Sidecar does require metal to run.

Successfully installed on my MBP8,1. Is there a way to remove the old Patch Updater? Will future updates include a new version?

First thing I noticed was an Eject icon in the menu bar for the SuperDrive. Never seen that before.
