I was able to update to Beta 6 on my Mac Pro 5.1. Used the USB installer along with Barry MicroPatcher. With this update I was successful using my TimeMachine backup. So far update is running smooth.

UPDATE: I have new sporadic computer crashing going on that I have not seen in prior betas. If this keeps up I may have to revert to an earlier version.

UPDATE 2: My computer has crashed 6 times since I upgraded. I have switched to my Mojave boot disk. Will have to wait for a new update and try again.

I'm a rolling stone.
try the following: after "/Volumes/Image\ Volume/set-vars.sh " (a space behind sh !)

This won't help, why have a space there, I never do with commands, it should not make any difference.
No offence though, glad you try to help him.

Sorry To new on this one and if is ok can you tell a little more instructions and i know you told me hold wait for third startup sound and hold option to get on recovery, next open terminal ? Just type set-vars.sh and enter? Thank you in advance

NVRAM/PRAM reset
Push the on button on your Mac, then right away, don't wait too long, push all the buttons together, CMD + Option + P + R, hold those until after the 3rd chime, then let go.

As for SMC, do this first, I gave you a link to Apple SMC reset page, it differs from Mac to Mac.

After NRAM/PRAM reset hold to Option key to startup from recovery, in recovery open Terminal and input the
/Volumes/Image\ volume/set-vars.sh command, you can also use the -v option to startup in Verbose, then you will see what's going on.

/Volumes/Image\ volume/set-vars.sh -v

Did anyone else lose the ability to playback 4k Youtube content?

*Mid 2012 Mbp
over here it depends on content provided whether it shows up or not. However this model can’t handle 4K anyways. Unless there is an external graphics card running. ... so I understood?

Successfully installed beta 6 on MacBook Air 2012 with the patcher. I have WiFi but not handoff|airdrop. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Under beta 5 I was able to get 4k no problem. And yes I understand the limitations of the display, and iGpu. I do run an eGpu with an external display under Catalina, so that's when I take full advantage of 4k content. Just checking the beta for bugs and updates when I noticed it... Not a huge deal. Just a bummer. Also curious if anyone else noticed it?

Nothing above standard 1080p over here

Looks like this guy had the same problem on a 2016 mbp >>>

I'm a rolling stone.
Wifi is still buggy.
Safari crashed in beta 5 when clicking a download link, that is solved, but just now I had to restart Safari, clicking on links didn't work, also no text input.

Why is Wifi so buggy, any ideas?

Right after I patched the kexts I see lots of networks, but just a split second, then there are only my own, about 4 of them, it is connected to one of my 2.4 Ghz channels, if I want to change this I get a notification that it can't be found, later I only see my iPhone XS network, then nothing at all.

And just now my iPhone's 4G network showed up again./confused

I might try to delete the Network preferences in /Library/SystemConfiguration...Oh wait, I can't, at least I think I can't, it's non readable isn't it!
I had network problems before with OS X Yosemite, it was a problem for months in a row for many people, I think it took Apple 6 months to fix it, by turning back the clock and use Mdnsresponder again instead of their own crap, deleting those files can make a difference, I will see if it's possible.

Tried Beta 6 on Mac mini 2010. Managed to install it using @Barry K. Nathan micropatcher 0.0.19 (booting both installer and Big Sur from @jackluke USBOpenCoreLoader4) on internal SSD. But it is much worse than beta 4 (incredibly slow since language configuration and no Wifi, no USB, no internal audio) ...Absolutely useless.

To know you have beta 6 look at the rather long url for the download. The correct beta 6 has this in the addy:
49/42/001-43966-A_UZVPNAGC5P. That 43966 is BSur beta 6; the size is 12.16GB.

Of course, you can delete the old beta if you are an admin.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but where can I see the URL from the System Update/System Preferences window? Thanks for your reply!

Can you please explain how you created the installer with the patch 0.1.0 but with the kexts from 0.0.19.
Thanks

has anyone that installed the developer or public beta version. i have it installed on a external hard drive so I nothing happens to my catalina section and I just booted into Mac OS Big Sur and I noticed on my July 2019 13 inch MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar like on the right hand side when you are in a app you have like all of the controls like brightness volume, launch pad and etc (like the main systems controls, it shows up on Catalina but I just noticed that it dose not show up on Big Sur when in other apps . Has anyone else have this issues it could just be a bug or my Big Sur install on the external hard drive dose not like it. The first picture is when I on the desktop(main screen), the second one is when I'm in like a app like Safari. I will grab some picture when in Big Sur. I just booted into Mac OS Big Sur and the Touch Bar is back to normal

You can always do a Get Info (cmd-I) on the pkg file even as it is downloading -- look at the "More Info" disclosure. The pkg's url is there.

I was actually referring to the url in the post that gave the InstallAssistant.pkg address. The other place you'll find it is when Apple releases a new software update catalog; I monitor this site. (scroll down about three or four screens). Check my method in #3,703 .
