Guy, any way to keep CPU cool? MBP Retina 2012. Temperature is at 83C or 177F. Anything I can do? Thanks in advance! Running Big Sur final release.

Big Sur on cMP 5,1 with BroadCom BCM94352HMB WiFi BLE update and flash RX-580.
Catalina stock except for patched IOBlueTooth Framework (Continuity PLIST) and plugin whitelist. Watch Unlock and handoff work.
BigSur is installed with big-sub-micropatch. Continuity flag in framework is set to true with blessed snapshot.. There is no relevant plugin in IO80211Family kext. Watch Unlock works, but there is no handoff. I can run with SIP enabled.
This is the only thing left before completely changing over.
Any ideas?
Handoff is actually now working. No changes except I am on RC2.

EDIT: I wanted to edit this and mention that I am using a compatible Bluetooth/wifi card.

Hello everyone! Iv got a question. On my Mac Pro 4,1 flashed to 5,1, ever since high Sierra I would have to run this in order for handoff and continuity and unlock with Apple Watch to work right.
sudo mount -uw /

sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Set:Mac-F221BEC8:ContinuitySupport true" "/System/Library/Frameworks/IOBluetooth.framework/Versions/A/Resources/SystemParameters.plist"

sudo -E perl -pi -e "s/\Mac-00BE6ED71E35EB86/\Mac-F221BEC8\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0/" /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortBrcm4360.kext/Contents/MacOS/AirPortBrcm4360

sudo touch /Library/Extensions

sudo kextcache -i /

But I can't run those commands on Big Sur. Mainly because it says the plugin for the airportbrcm4360 doesn't exist.

So, what iv been doing is installing Catalina first. Then running those commands to get handoff and everything working and then just updated to a version of Big Sur.

I ran into a new problem. The latest version of Big Sur breaks this.

My question is is how is everyone else with a Mac Pro 4,1 or 5,1 getting this to work.

THANK YOU for any help it is much appreciated
On my 5,1 only the Continuity patch is needed. There is no plugin.

How do I run this command on Big Sur?

I need to enable Continuity on my mid-2011 27" iMac:

sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Set:Mac-942B59F58194171B:ContinuitySupport true" "/System/Library/Frameworks/IOBluetooth.framework/Versions/A/Resources/SystemParameters.plist"

Tried the traditional Catalina method by booting into the Big Sur Install volume and ran the usual csrutil disable, etc but the change didn't save.

Any ideas?
Maybe your iMac does not have Broadcom card. This will only work with iMacs with Broadcom chip and not Atheros Card.

For those of you still wondering: No, unfortunately, I will not be making a Patcher for Big Sur, for the following reasons:

- Achieving full graphics acceleration with a non-Metal GPU has so far been unattainable under Mac OS Big Sur. As such, any machines that have a non-upgradeable, non-Metal GPU (such as 2011 and older MacBook models) will not be able to run Big Sur at a usable level. While I could make a disclaimer about this on my webpage and/or the tool itself, I know from experience that the vast majority of users will ignore such a warning, and then message me asking why their machine is running like complete garbage once installed (the post above mine as a prime example).

- The tool would need to be almost completely re-engineered, due to the completely different installer implementation Apple has done for Big Sur. While this normally wouldn't be a problem for me, it does take quite a lot of time to produce something that looks nice, is user-friendly, and works relatively reliably. Unfortunately at this time, due to other projects and obligations, I don't have quite as much free time as I used to.

- There are at least a few other Patchers developed by other people that work very well on the machines that I would support if I were to make a Patcher of my own (2012/2013 machines, and older models upgradeable to Metal GPUs only). An additional patcher would be redundant, as it would not offer any extra support than what is available in other Patchers.

With all that said, I will most likely make a patcher for the next major version of macOS released in the future. After developing, maintaining, and updating my patchers over the past 4 years, I really just need a bit of a break. I apologize if this is disappointing news to some, but don't worry, there are many other talented developers working on Big Sur patchers, and I can assure you that you won't be let down.
Your sentiments well appreciated and accepted @dosdude1. Thanks again for all the great contribution you have done to the unsupported mac community. We surely will look forward to your next great project.

Thank you!

what exactly is ‘dock-extra’ . Is it only related to the updates, or has it some pther functions?
That is name of several plist keys (<key>dock-extra</key>) in com.apple.dock plist (in your user>Library>Preferences folder. The key controls the presence (on) or absence (off) of the red dot notification on a dock icon. There is a <key>dock-extra</key> for each app on the dock, but the System Preferences badge is the one to block according to Macrumors user VTRN post #71 in the macOS Mojave forum..

Hi, I have installed successfully Big Sur on my MBP Mid 2012 and everything works including wifi, except to connect to wifi with WPA2 Enterprise EAP-TLS. I can see it authenticates on the access point, but it does not get an IP. It works flawlessly on Catalina on the same MBP. I can connect successfully to a WPA2 personal wifi without problems. Any one experienced the same issue and has a resolution?

I found the Problem. It seams something wrong with the Logitech Mouse. I´ve tried two(G703) and (503).
A NoName USB-Mouse do not slow down the system during usage .. Strange ..
Hi .. The Problem appears, when the mouse is set to 1000hz. The interface is very slow and shutters. Changing it to < 500hz helps...Tested with Logitech G703 . .

Till now I used the patch for unsupported Macs firstly as fresh install and then updating over a Big Sur macOS

Is it any problem if I upgrade my Catalina macOS with USB Stick patched 0.5.0 Big Sur 11.0.1 (no beta). Would I lost my configuration and data?

I installed big sur on the iMac 2009, but there is a huge slowdown in the graphics.

I answered on Github (I made also a detailed table and pdf guide), first after installation you need to apply "BigSurFixes Legacy USB patches" (that includes also telemetry fix and other kext patches), then graphics rendering even without Metal can be enhanced through framebuffer fixes ( @telepati and @Ourkid can confirm that ) .

Which GPU does your iMac have Nvidia or ATI ?

If you have an Nvidia GPU then reboot the "BaseSystem Installer" and apply "BigSurFixes iSight camera fix" (this includes also Nvidia framebuffer), at reboot graphics framebuffer and iSight camera should work.

Otherwise since I don't yet included any ATI driver, if you have an ATI GPU then from HighSierra or any dosdude1 patcher copy its ATI AMD patched drivers to the "BaseSystem fixed Installer" path /Volumes/Install macOS Big Sur/kext/

ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.bundle
ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle
ATIRadeonX2000GA.plugin
ATIRadeonX2000.kext
AMDSupport.kext
AMDShared.bundle
AMDRadeonX4000HWServices.kext
AMDRadeonX4000GLDriver.bundle
AMDRadeonX4000.kext
AMDRadeonX3000GLDriver.bundle
AMDRadeonX3000.kext
AMDRadeonVADriver2.bundle
AMDRadeonVADriver.bundle
AMDLegacySupport.kext
AMDLegacyFramebuffer.kext
AMDFramebuffer.kext
AMD6000Controller.kext
AMD5000Controller.kext
AMD4800Controller.kext
AMD4600Controller.kext
AMD3800Controller.kext
AMD2600Controller.kext
AMD2400Controller.kext

then reboot the "BaseSystem Installer" and apply "BigSurFixes snapshot booting" (this fix install Wifi, Sound and any additional kext copied on /Volumes/Install macOS Big Sur/kext/ ).

Don't rename or remove kext1 or kext2 in that kext folder they are required for BigSurFixes patches and backup.

If you are using OpenCore, after any BigSurFixes reboot the "BaseSystem Installer" and apply also "BigSurFixes opencore preboot" (this is required when using a patched BootKernelExtensions.kc for opencore).

Hi people! :D

Yesterday I've performed the BS installation on my MBP 15" Retina OG, all works fine! Got an upgraded BT/WiFi card, so: wifi, handoff, Watch unlock and everything works great!

Only issue (known, as it was reported in the micropatcher readme): discrete GPU is active all the time (as you can see in the screenshot) and battery drains fast due to that.

Thanks to barrykn and all the people involved in the developing!

Just installed Big Sur on Mac mini 2012 (i5/16Gb/HD4000/SSD) and Drift stutters. Also the whole interface is a bit laggy and unresponsive: Dock stutters as well as dragging the windows around the screen, while the scrolling in Safari/Chrome is smooth. Will it always be like that or there is a hope for improvement in the future?
All right, it was my USB mouse to blame. Replaced my current SteelSeries with Razer Lachesis and stuttering has gone. Everything is nice and smooth. I wasn't the only one with such an issue, a lot of people are experiencing that, so please note to whom it may concern.

How you fix the wi-fi? I have macbook pro mid 2012 (no retina). But wi-fi not working.

If you used my "BaseSystem fix Installer" after installation then simply hold alt-option key from apple startup manager select it, wait a couple of minutes for BaseSystem booting, select Utilities menu, apply "BigSurFixes snapshot booting" (a minimal keyboard interaction is required to type your Preboot diskXs2 and BigSur label) at next reboot Wifi and AirDrop on Finder should work.

you might try mac fan control

That software works, but "Auto" feature doesn't work on unsupported BigSur Mac because probably AppleSMC*.kext or other BigSur kext can't detect properly the machine SMC sensors, instead selecting from Macs Fan Control "Custom" with "CPU average" or any "CPU Core" sensors, then settle a range between 50 °C and 60 °C (this range I use for MacBook) and Fans RPM will adeguate correctly.

Without using any of these software for CPU temp and Fans RPM speed, BigSur will surely overheat almost any unsupported Mac .

It's not that hard for a 2012 machine, I explained what steps are needed in a post a few pages back, search my history for it, I will link to it shortly in this post, will edit this post.

1. Have a USB stick handy, or an external disk, or a dedicated partition.
2. Download the full installer.
3. Download Micropatcher from here.
4. Open Terminal.
5. sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Big\ Sur.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Install\ macOS\ Big\ Sur\ Beta --volume /Volumes/***
*** is the disk label you install the Installer onto, so the USB stick, I dragged and dropped my USB stick onto the terminal, the path will be automatically added.
6. Input your password.
7. It will erase your disk so be aware not to chose the wrong one.
8. Input "Y" if asked to erase.
9. Wait until it's finished, could take a while dependable of what kind of media you use.
10. Unzip the downloaded micropatcher, drag the micropatcher.sh file onto the Terminal window, then enter.
11. In Terminal type sudo and then a space, next drag the install-setvars.sh onto the Terminal window, hit enter.
12. Restart after it is finished.
13. Hold Option key right after restart, keep holding it until you see the bootpicker.
14. Chose the EFI disk, it will instantly shut down.
15. Start up again and again hold the option key for the bootpicker.
16. Chose the USB installer, wait for the installer to open.
17. Chose the disk you want Big Sur installed onto.
18. Wait for probably an hour or so (Have a coffee or a beer in the meantime 🍺 ) if you install from a USB stick, probably half of that if the installer resides on a SSD medium.
19. Restarts multiple times.
20. Almost done.
21. The next step is for WIFI, Wifi does not work OOTB on a 2012 Mini or 2012 MBP....
21a. Restart for the last time after it booted into Big Sur, you may restart before login or after login, makes no difference.
21b. Hold the Option key again to get into the USB installer, there are other ways but this one is the easiest, chose the USB installer, next open terminal from the menu.
21c. Input "/Volume/Image\ Volumes/patch-kexts.sh /Volumes/***" and hit enter, when finished enter "reboot", both without the quotes.
*** Is your disk label

Voila...done...a working Big Sur OS.🍺🍺

Edit: Do not forget to thank Barry K. Nathan

I have a 2012 MacPro 5,1 and followed these instuctions for a fresh install, but after step 17 it just goes into a reboot loop and never comes out. I've tried on an SSD and HHD, reinstalled Opencore 0.6.3. Anyone had this issue, or can point me in the right direction? Thanks. KK

You may go back to the first post and read about your patcher options and please follow the steps documented on the micro patcher GitHub page step by step, if you choose to use this patcher. This micro patcher is known to work with Mac Pro and problems only came up if the user missed a step...

Thanks, is patcher the best option or should I just go OpenCore and native onto a new SSD? I'm not 100% clear on the best option for MP 5,1 with a Radeon RX580
