WIFI works fine for me in Big Sur, but I had to try a few different commands in Terminal (see post #6011) before I got one to work. In Big Sur I only get 2 of 3 strength bars on WIFI, but in Catalina I get all four.
thanks. just read the post and it's where i'm at right now. my issue is that my wifi ssid is hidden and i cannot connect to it unless it is not hidden.

post 6344 suggests something but im not sure how to go about using his bigfixes.

You can turn displaypolicyd off or on with these Terminal commands:
Code:
sudo launchctl stop com.apple.displaypolicyd
sudo launchctl start com.apple.displaypolicyd

I'm finding that my MBP Retina mid02012 10,1 on Big Sur 11.0.1 (20B29) now runs cool if I have displaypolicyd enabled and use gfxCardStatus v2.4.4i set on the dynamic switching option.
Microsoft Remote Desktop doesn't work in that configuration. The Nvidia driver throws a run-time error. It's my understanding that the Nvidia card is always running in that situation as well. I will keep testing.

Hi guys I was wondering if it was possible for me to upgrade from Big Sur Beta 6 to the final version on my early 2013 MacBook Pro, I also don't have a usb stick but I have an external harddrive and I was also wondering if that can be used as a bootable installer, thank you

Yes to both of your questions.

Longer answer.
Big Sur comes as a full installer, you can install over any version.
Any external media will work as long as you format the media the right way.

Yes, that easy, no, you don't need opencore, just use Micropatcher.

I really hate to ask this but I have searched all over and can't find an answer. So my 2011 IMac 27" does not have the up to date 87.0.0.0.0 firmware and thus the Big Sur installer will not work until I do this update. So i know that I need to install High Sierra to get that updated. I created an install USB with createinstallmedia but when I boot to the disk that was created it get's to about 2/3 of the progress bar at boot and then shows the circle with line and stops. How do I get past this?

Also thank to the team that worked hard to get Big Sur to install on unsupported machines!

Currently have the latest Catalina installed and Current firmware is 004E.B00.1802022050

Big thanks to all involved to make this happen! Now I'm curious if I may have the desktop in higher resolution as well?

If you are using the micro patcher you will be guided trough the normal Apple installation (made through the USB installer). Nothing has changed there. If you have a new and empty container/partition you get a fresh installation, if you choose an existing (Catalina) installation on one our your disk partitions/containers your get an upgrade.

Please have a backup and restore working....
So is no efi change necessary when using the micro patcher?

Got Big Sur installed on my 2013 iMac but is this normal under Internal Drive?

Curious if you download Big Sur on a supported Mac and make a bootable USB to fresh install Big Sur can you load it onto an unsupported Mac?

Happy to report my install has been successful and very smooth on a 15" Mid 2012 Unibody MBP. I didn't have to do anything else outside of the initial patching process as my subtle design @troop231 WiFi/BT upgrade proved to be supported right out of the box.

If someone is attempting to start from scratch with this particular configuration you will have to go wired through the ethernet port to start and go through internet recovery. Once Catalina is installed, then installing a patched Big Sur usb media installer is a breeze.

Windows 10 Pro installed via Bootcamp also went extremely smoothly when setting up through Big Sur.

If there is anything people with this particular MBP would like me to test out let me know.

First, thank you DosDude1 for you work on past patches, I appreciate your work. I have an upgraded Mac mini server (Macmini5,3) with 16GB RAM and two 1TB SSDs 2.0GHz Quad Core. The newer SSD has your latest patch of Catalina 10.15.7 on it, and it runs great. Second, Thank you BarryKN and everyone Barry mentions on his GitHub page who has helped on the newer patch. This community greatly appreciates your work. I took the older SSD and loaded Big Sur on it with barrykn's patch. Long story short, the lag is like taking a 10 year step backwards, I took a stab at trying to load the kext's to get the ethernet and wifi working, but saw enough that it wasn't going to be worth my time, and rebooted back to Catalina. I have been weening myself off of iCloud, and have moved most of my data to pCloud. Shifted from Apple Mail to Spark, from Safari to Firefox. And have started using Libreoffice instead of iWorks. I ditched Microsoft when I turned my Dell into corporate at the end of last year. I have used a couple of Linux flavors, Ubuntu, ElementaryOS, and recently Fedora. I decided to not upgrade my 2017 MacBook Air, After reading about Big Sur, Kext vs. Dext, SIP etc. and figured the peripherals I use will not work with Big Sur. So, I guess I have until about November 2022 to decide which flavor of Linux I am going to switch to. A Linux phone may also be in my future.

I have a MacBook Pro 2012 (9,2), running Macos Big Sur, without wifi. When i tried this, I have this error on Terminal: “volume could not be mounted: permission denied”
Any help?
Thanks!
I've been away from the Mac OS on unsupported Mac Scene for a while (2 months). What I can tell you is Big Sur uses Volume sealing now so you cannot mount the /System partition to make modifications anymore. I'm sure someone here has a more recent fix to this issue. As for me, a computer is now something to just complete tasks on now, no time to play around anymore.
